I was referencing the forum opinion, with Greg's view above the general consensus now.
Most of us had Whyte below Usyk, AJ, Fury, Joyce and Wilder; liable to lose to Parker and Ruiz; not guaranteed to beat Miller... And then a lot of us'd fancy Anderson to beat him and Makhmudov to KO him. Sanchez might outpoint him, and on it goes. But top 15, sure.
Add in DDD, hrgovic, yoka, jabalov, all of which I'd favor over Whyte. Gassieve too if he ever gets healthy..
I'd favore them over Whyte but I couldnt rank them above Whyte yet... That's the funny thing about rankings.
There's a continual thread on the current scene where forum members have been voting and updating a heavyweight top 15 for a few years now. That's what I quoted. That's a fair representation of how the forum viewed Whyte before tonight.
Greg, you may favour them but surely that's mostly because they haven't stepped up and been tested yet. Dubois tried and was found wanting.
I'm aware of the thread. And I have Whyte above those names on it. Ratings for most are a combo of resume and eye test. But mainly resume. So Whyte ranks high, his resume is top 5 easy
But if you asked people is whyte a top 5 heavy purely on how good he is I don't think people have thought that for a fair while.

Now I wanna see Wallin vs. Whyte still.
I hope Whyte doesn’t waste too much time getting back in the ring.
He will ask too much money.
We have already seen how hard he trained for his long awaited title shot - gasping after 5 lack lustre rounds.
I'm done with him, I should have been done with him after the first Povetkin fight. No interest in him other than taking Del Boys place as UK gatekeeper. And he is too full of himself to accept the money on offer for that.

We will revisit the BoxRec Top 15 thread on Monday. I’ll have it ready.
Of course Fury is staying put.
It’s Whyte we’ll discuss.
Shame is though, non of the other Heavyweights have any fights scheduled.

I was highlighting the thread for Grilling Machine.
Maybe you are right about how people view Whyte but it's difficult to judge how good those coming through are until/unless they meet the kind of opponents Whyte has.

I don’t think it was a surprise at all. I’ve never particularly rated Whyte.
I thought he lost the first Chisora fight, I think he probably loses the Chisora rematch & the Parker fight with fair refereeing. Povetkin should’ve never been allowed to fight the rematch.
I guess how much you rate the opponent defines how highly you rate the victory. I don’t rate Whyte so this doesn’t mean a lot to me but I valued the Wilder wins more than most.
I just don’t get why anyone issurprised at Whyte’s performance. He has no outstanding attributes. He’s just a decent all round fighter that’s a bit vulnerable. He’s never shown anything to suggest he could be competitive with Fury.

I'm taking a break from the Tyson discussions, he absolutely played with Whyte, beat Wilder like a ginger stepson and dethroned Wlad in Germany after a decade. I like coneye, but if he's saying Ruiz is a problem then I give up.

he had a draw with wilder and got dropped 4 times. obviously he was clearly superior, but ginger step sons dont fight back quite like that.
wilder and wlad are both top wins, whyte a good win for sure too. usyk-aj 2 winner to cap it off has to happen, his missing big acheievment. then retire if he wins. obviously he'd tool ruiz, 12-0 job. andy wouldnt get near him and would walk into jabs all fight. no need for that fight

The Ruiz who beat AJ would of been a problem for Fury ,, The present day Ruiz ,, well he does'nt deserve the payday , and would'nt be a problem ,,
Fury is good no doubt , but the main thing is the sheer size of the man ,, the only thing that will beat or come close to beating Fury is someone else with similar attributes for me that leaves mainly two Jocye and AJ , both are big units and both can box ,,, Usky while he's probably the better boxer of all of them well he's just too small for Tyson

fury is all wrong for ruiz, no version of ruiz would touch him
fury is basically like someone was playing knockout kings and created a fighter specifically to beat andy ruiz

wallin's not much bigger than usyk, and is a lot worse a fighter, and gave fury serious scare. many fights been stopped on less than that, and he hurt fury too. cunningham did way better than most vs tyson too. fury prob beats usyk but i wouldnt write usyk off just for being too small. a big plodding slow guy plays into fury's hands more than a quick super skillful fit southpaw

Wallin was a ridiculous cut, no wonder he couldn't perform. Cunningham was a good fight, he had no corner men and was in his early twenties. Not excuses, facts. Great learning fights.

Agree Dont think he took Wallin serious and the cut sent things haywire ,, Cunningham was i agree a good learning fight , he,s far outstripped most , except for the two i keep mentioning joyce cos he,s the NEARLY same size and can box well ,,, AJ well Aj is a big unit and can punch not got the chin tysons got but its still interesting , Although i doubt Aj would win with the trainers he,s got put Aj with a different trainer and thats the fight of the decade ,,

joe has to be able to impose himself, i think he's too slow footed to do that regularly. any plodding dude is made for fury. usyk too would box joe's block off again.. 'ppl say joe is so slow but he keeps winning', uh ya, who is the best mover he's fought though?
fury's had the most problems with boxers who are decently quick and mobile. cunn, wally. wilder too, despite being sloppy, was fairly quick. i think focusing on the 'strong' big guys has it all wrong.
ruiz, joyce.....not seeing it tbh, especially on ruiz. the only 2 i'd look to now as possibly beating fury beyond a fluke are usyk and aj (cue dudes being triggered). obviously fury should probably tool aj, but josh is the best puncher other than wilder and there's that outside possibility. and usyk has a special mix of skill, fitness, and southpaw accuracy. again fury prob wins, but there's tools usyk has that could get to fury on the right day (eg, fury gets cut early again)
for everyone else i think something wacky has to happen, fury has to decline suddenly, or simply not give a flying f@ck and come in totally unprepared. which tbf isnt impossible

Yeah but the overall card was awful (aside from seeing Lowe take an absolute pasting) and we had to put up with Buncey.

It was an awful PPV. Probably the worst ever. That the stadium sold out and the buy rate could be huge, it was a masterful bit of promoting by FW and Fury. They have polished a turd. A big turd.
People have paid literally thousands of pounds to traipse all the way to Wembley to see a dire undercard, some bad singing and an underwhelming main event. Whyte was out of his depth and his resume clearly demonstrated that would be the case.

Now I've seen the fight, I'm so glad I didn't buy it.
AJ Uysk better have at least one other good fight or I'm not paying for that either.
Joyce Parker, if it happens better be free, because I'm not paying for that B level non title stuff.
I'm just not shelling out my hard earned for sub standard shows.
Maybe I'm old, but PPVs used to have sometimes 3 title fights and they were an evenings entertainment, value for money.

I only half watched it as events over took and was in the pub, but looked like a masterclass by Fury to me.
Yes DW looked shop worn, guess we half expected that, but he was swinging home runs and if fury weren’t on his game, it could’ve been a lewis/Rahman type scenario.
But he was bang on it, I never thought much of him before the wilder first fight, but I’ve seen the light since then , all hail the gypsy king,

( no way he’s retiring for good, NO WAY )

Only now actually watched it. Great punch to finish off a very depleted Whyte.
I'd say a very good performance by Fury; he beat Whyte as easily as the other guys Whyte has lost to.
For Whytes big chance I expected a guy to be in peak fitness; certainly not one who looked gassed after 4 not too busy rounds. He apparently had a tough kickboxing career - and had a tough boxing career this far too. Did the Povetkin loss make him a shell?
It will be interesting if Fury relinquishes now. How much nonsense he spouts I think in 8-10 months he'll fight again.
