Hi all. Have read the thread with interest.

I only have one question for you all - what would you like to see more of in the magazine or to be in there that currently is not?

I'd like to read some more analysis on a point of interest. It's great at looking back at the moment but think something that tackles what has just happened would be good. This week it could be the awful opponent for the woman af the start of last night's dazn show, why the Birmingham venue looked empty, the beauty of the british title with walker's defence or how yafai crunched edwards then got chewed up himself. Lots to go for every week.

Or why Yafai wasn't pulled out?

What about wider topics eg Turki calling shots, MVP taking over female boxing, the Board's weight-making rules etc?

And while I am requesting feedback, below you will find a list of boxing writers. Some may be currently unavailable, others may have no interest in what I am considering. However, if you have the time, it'd be great to know who you like, who you are less keen on and who you rate that is missing from my list, please.

Nigel Collins
John Dennen
Tom Gerbasi

Tom Kershaw

Agree with a lot of this - the fighter x beat fighter y lists masquerading as fight reports are utterly pointless IMO. Analysis and insight are what's missing - tell us the stuff we don't know or can't easily access from other sources.
Danny, what's the context for this? (I was abroad until yesterday so haven't got this week's issue).

I can't say just yet mate, but your feedback would be appreciated on both content and writers.

Here is a rough hypothetical plan for the next issue if I was doing it -

1. Cover - Inoue & Tank (see list feature)
2. AD
3. Contents
4. Letters
5. AD
6. Editor's Letter - 2 pages (Me)
7. Columns x 2 - 2 pages (Bunce & Kim)
8. Gbm preview - 1 page (DG)
9. Paul v Chavez preview - 1 page (Ayman)
10. AD
11. "
12. UK action (4 shows) - 2 pages (Whittle)
13. "
14. Brum report - 2 pages (Me)
15. "
16. US action (3 shows) - 2 pages (Hirsch)
17. "
18. Schedule - 1 page
19. Ad
20. History feature - 4 pages (Templeton)
21. "
22. "
23. "
24. Dave Allen fan Q&A - 2 pages
25. "
26. DPS Ad
27. "
28. List feature (5 best fighters yet to be on a Turki card) - 4 pages (Me)
29. "
30. "
31. "
32. Paul & crossover feature - 4 pages (Warrington)
33. "
34. "
35. "
36. GBM & rising UK promoters feature - 4 pages (Me)
37. "
38. "
39. "

40. Ad
41. "
42. Trainer section (Me)
43. "
44. Amateurs - 4 pages (Various)
45. "
46. "
47. "

Are you the new editor?

I just got the May print edition of The Ring, never read it before in my life.

There were a few pages discussing the rankings as a narrative and the reasons behind movements, I really enjoyed that 'inside look' rather than just banging the rankings in as a list.

I used to like Eric Armit's look at the world scene, a few pars on relevant fights and what they meant rather full show reports.

On your list, get Elliott Worsell back....he was really good and not afraid to tackle uncomfortable subjects.

There does seem to be a lot more advertising in BN these days, which is either a sign of a good commercial dept or a reward for not rocking the boat with certain people. Can't quite work out which as some interviews sound like PR puff pieces.

If John Exshaw is still going then his reviews would be most welcome, they were a highlight of BM.

Also the bit asking two quickfire questions to three or four boxing faces every week is missed

This is great feedback. So...

Rankings with explainers
World scene round-up
Book reviews
Panel

Thank you. And no, I am not the new editor.

While we're at it then, I love Graham Houston's double pagers on his experiences at big fights in history. Be good to get similar on British fight occasions that writers have been at (Calzaghe, Eubank, Benn, Lennox, etc etc I haven't mentioned Hatton as there was a good one on the Tszyu fight recently)

Where Are They Now is brilliant, especially the less famous ones who we know where they are anyway.

Do the centre pages as a club/fight/fighter/punch of the week with a big BN logo on it that can be pulled out and put on a gym or bedroom wall for brand awareness

Just do one double spread for Miles Templeton. It's amazing content but having it in two places at the moment dilutes both as one is only a single page. Keep the current singles for future doubles.

Old Timers needs more photos of Old Timers having a pint or whatever. We want to see faces not just read how much has been raised at the raffle.

To be 'down with the kids' a page of social media photos and comments would probably work

That's it for now, got plenty more ideas.

Chris McKenna and Tris Dixon are 2 that spring to mind who aren't on your list

Hi all, if you have time to help me out, I want to put together a boxing magazine (only the skeketon, for now) we can all enjoy.

I have my own ideas, of course, and have heard back from around 5 people so far, but I'd love to hear more.

This is basically a plan for a 52-page mag (like BN) that would (in theory only) be relevant if it came out next week, plus ideas on writers. Please give me feedback if you can.

Depends on your market a bit.

Boxing Monthly would have had a wider base and did a different thing.

BN has always been a bit hard core, covering everything British fight was an essential part, being older, I always liked the old paper.

Being a bit nostalgic, in those days the writers were high level. Liked the format, editors section, previews, all the fights, the ratings, bit of amateur, old timers, readers letters

Add to that a profile on some fighters, the British level sort that aren't usually covered, and also a quick question and answer/ fact file on fighters

Hi everyone.

This is my latest list of potential writers for an as-yet unnamed but exciting (for me at least) project.

Please tell me whose work you like, whose you don't and why (perhaps privately for the latter), plus who is amazing that I've left off the list.

Carlos Acevedo
Mark Butcher
Nigel Collins
Tony Connolly
John Dennen
Terry Dooley
Tom Gerbasi
Oliver Goldstein
Tom Kershaw
Zach Levin
Chris McKenna
Don McRae
Kev Mitchell
Gabe Montoya
Kieran Mulvaney
Sean Nam
Joe O'Neill
Paul Wheeler
Elliot Worsell

NB: No Tris Dixon for now, as I think he is Boxing Scene Exclusive; no Miles Templeton (he's on my 'ideal' template) and no Steve Wellings, because it goes without saying I'd love to work with him.
