That was a boxing masterclass by Miocic. Best finish I've seen in UFC.

Great fights. Good job of Miocic toughing it through that 1st round to get the stoppage in the 4th.

Thought stipe was taking too many shots in the first 3 rounds and thought he was going to get stopped but credit to him for toughin it out and them body shots were brutal,i like D.C. and hope he is ok,he is a class guy same as stipe.

There's tons. Tonight was an ok stoppage. But nothing crazy. Jones over DC was better. Ngannou over Overeem was pretty wild. Too many to mention.

what, masvidal 1 shot ko? see them all the time. Stipe broke down cormier with precise lefts to the body, even when he knew they were coming. DC knew Stipe was lowering his hands and could do nothing about it. Textbook boxing finish.

Think Cormier will retire now. No way mimic gives him a 3rd fight.

Plenty of those types of finishes as well, minus the gassing out. I personally thought both guys were taking a lot of unnecessary shots. And while the fight was exciting, it was quite sloppy at times.

That's debatable. But regardless, Ali was certainly not considered an "American sports hero" at the time. The lionization of Ali came years later when he was viewed in the context of the historical civil rights and anti-war movements.
I don't think it's remotely debatable. Has there ever been someone you'd consider an American sports hero? If Ali doesn't fit the bill color me confused.
I don't think Ali was an "American sports hero" when he was jailed for dodging the draft and basically badmouthed the country with regularity. He didn't become a heroic figure until many years later.

When I think of "American sports heroes" I'd think of Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Roger Staubach, Joe Montana, Jesse Owens, Derek Jeter, Joe Louis, Floyd Patterson, and hell if you want an MMA example, Randy Couture. The exact opposite of huge shit-talkers who are intentionally offensive for trolling purposes.

That surprised me. I thought DC was on his way to a routine win - although he did sound a bit strange in the corner in between rounds. Miocic really turned it around with those unanswered left hooks to the body.

I don’t watch much ufc but when they stand and box they look terrible compared to boxers
Well, they are not boxers, and they are not boxing - even when they choose to limit the action to a standing exchange of punches they still need to be taking into account many other potential techniques from their opponents that are not permitted in boxing, such as holding and hitting, backfists, kicks and takedown attempts. And it is a lot harder to use small gloves for defense. So no, they do not show good boxing technique, the strikers stand squarer, further away, the grapplers and wrestlers take risks with kicks and haymakers because they are not worried about being taken down. It is a different sport, and you need to watch it as such to appreciate it.

What's he got left to prove?

Only two fights make sense, Miocic 2, or Jones 3, the latter less so.

If Cormier sticks around the only fight that really makes sense is a 3rd fight with Stipe. I'd definitely be down to see it.

Would also like to see Diaz vs. Till (assuming Till stays at WW) and also Sandhagen vs. Moraes.

Ali was and is a sports hero for the minority and always will be,America fcked him off dont forget that, came back from rome with a gold medal, proud he represented his country and when he returned the white american people treated him like a disease yet when war breaks out they call for him? Fck that id of done the same if i was a black man back then,Joe Louis should of done the same and every black man in sports in those days should of too,Ali is a figure of hope for some people even today,he was the black superman (and i dont mean anything racist when i say that). So no he isnt just an American sports hero,he is more than a hero!

my post was tongue in cheek at the poster who said cormier is a 90% fav against everyone bar Jones. I think Stipe is better than Cormier, and pretty sure Ngannu is better than 10% shot vs DC given how easy he is to hit.

Ngannou would get ragdolled and stopped against DC. Cormier would take him down at will.

I don't think the comment is far off from the truth. I'm happy for Stipe that he won. But, I think DC IS the better fighter. He wasn't listening to his coaches. Had he utilized a more wrestling based game plan, I believe he would have won the fight. But he had such success striking with Miocic the 1st half of the fight he was hungry for the ko. Honestly I thought DC was on his way to another stoppage win the way Miocic was letting DC grab his hands, close distance, and constantly land punches and elbows. It's like Miocic had no answer for that technique until DC gassed and he started digging the body.
