He was a world class lightweight, beating Katsidis, Moses, Mitchell and Gonzalez proved that.Boxing Prospect wrote:Jimm Watt is a know, Nick Halling is awful, Burns was absolutely shocking. Don't bother with a rematch.
Sorry but Ricky was a world class SUPER FEATHERWEIGHT but isn't and never has been world class LIGHTWEIGHT.
He seemed to be grabbing in every exchange which I guess could of been a psychological thing in relation to his jaw.expe wrote:Crawford was always going to be difficult for him stylistically and was far from the ideal fight coming off a broken jaw, it wasn't so much Ricky looking shot, it seemed to be more of a mental thing, he didn't look confident in there.columbo wrote:That's what I mean though, he looked a somewhat shot fighter.expe wrote: Nah, I'm with Horse, Crawford's decent but he ain't anything special, well done to him though, but Ricky was nowhere near what he once was, he's fought bigger punchers, been hit hard and fired back with his own, but he didn't do that tonight, he kept backing onto the ropes and I can only remember him throwing a 3 or 4 punch combination once or twice all fight, when he did he was successful, but he just didn't do enough.
yeah he has Martinez, Katsidis, Mitchell all good wins though.pm wrote:Burns has been going downhill ever since the Mitchell fight. A loss has been coming and is in fact overdue when you consider the Gonzalez and Beltran fights, at least he lost his title to a classy operator rather than some muppet in a voluntary defence.
Burns should call it a day, excellent career when you think back to Johanneson fight and nothing left to prove. Walk away sir and enjoy family life in good health.
Gonzalez did the same thing, but better and Ricky came through in the end, every time he was hit clean he backed off onto the ropes, he stood with Martinez, Katsidis, Mitchell and Gonzalez and all of them hit at least as hard, if not harder than Crawford. Maybe not getting his shots off as much was down to Crawford, but on the rare occasion he put a proper combination together, it worked, he needed to throw 3 or 4 punches, then throw another 3 or 4 so Crawford couldn't come back at him.crusader wrote:Maybe he didn't look confident because of what Crawford was doing.
Crawford will KTFO Gonzalez.expe wrote:Gonzalez did the same thing, but better and Ricky came through in the end, every time he was hit clean he backed off onto the ropes, he stood with Martinez, Katsidis, Mitchell and Gonzalez and all of them hit at least as hard, if not harder than Crawford. He seemed scared of getting hit tonight to me.expe wrote:Gonzalez did the same thing, but better and Ricky came through in the end, every time he was hit clean he backed off onto the ropes, he stood with Martinez, Katsidis, Mitchell and Gonzalez and all of them hit at least as hard, if not harder than Crawford. Have you seen Ricky fight before? He doesn't hold as much as he did tonight, doesn't back off after one clean shot and is prepared to put his punches together, he's done that against stronger men than Crawford and bigger punchers and against slicker boxers, tonight he never really did any of that.Tanzio wrote:"Not quite the Ricky we know?" WTF. The only reason for it is Crawford. Respect to Burns, but this was not really competitive.
I just wonder if it was something to do with the jaw.columbo wrote:He seemed scared of getting hit tonight to me.expe wrote:Gonzalez did the same thing, but better and Ricky came through in the end, every time he was hit clean he backed off onto the ropes, he stood with Martinez, Katsidis, Mitchell and Gonzalez and all of them hit at least as hard, if not harder than Crawford. A shot Katsidis (lost 2 of his previous 3 and then his subsequent bout)expe wrote:He was a world class lightweight, beating Katsidis, Moses, Mitchell and Gonzalez proved that.Boxing Prospect wrote:Jimm Watt is a know, Nick Halling is awful, Burns was absolutely shocking. Great result for Abraham that! A lot of people were saying he was shot after the last fight!TerribleTerry wrote:Little tip stay out of RBR threads if you are looking to avoid spoilersHorse wrote:Thanks for spoiling that fight for me.TerribleTerry wrote:Abrahams wins a split decision after a cracking fight.

Gonzalez looked much more talented than Crawford (except for stamina and heart) based on their fights against Burns.Tanzio wrote:Crawford will KTFO Gonzalez.
Gonzalez would be in front then fall apart late on if Crawford puts it on him, chin isn't a problem, just heart, fitness and desire for Gonzalez.Tanzio wrote:Crawford will KTFO Gonzalez.expe wrote:Gonzalez did the same thing, but better and Ricky came through in the end, every time he was hit clean he backed off onto the ropes, he stood with Martinez, Katsidis, Mitchell and Gonzalez and all of them hit at least as hard, if not harder than Crawford. Gonzalez had no tank and fell apart after just a bit of pressure from Burns. Crawford was like Gonzalez except he was able to maintain what he was doing without falling apart. The other fighters you mention, especially Martinez and past-prime Katsidis, are significantly less skilled, fluid, and defensively adroit than Crawford, so I can see why Ricky would look better and thus more confident against them. Try giving Crawford some credit for clearly winning. He also didn't look a bit bothered by the atmosphere or magnitude of the fight like you continually suggested.expe wrote:Gonzalez did the same thing, but better and Ricky came through in the end, every time he was hit clean he backed off onto the ropes, he stood with Martinez, Katsidis, Mitchell and Gonzalez and all of them hit at least as hard, if not harder than Crawford. Big crowd=big fights. They're looking at the fcking gate receipts & the happy fact Ricky finished on his feet.steve689 wrote:That was a bit bizarre, it was almost like the post-fight interviews were taken from a different fight. Everyone was happy, positive and looking forward to a blossoming future. Not saying they should be crying but I would have thought it's close to the end of the road?
Little tip - if you read a thread titled Burns vs Crawford RBR you don't reasonably expect to be told the result of a fight on another card in another country !TerribleTerry wrote:Little tip stay out of RBR threads if you are looking to avoid spoilersHorse wrote:Thanks for spoiling that fight for me.TerribleTerry wrote:Abrahams wins a split decision after a cracking fight.

I think Gonzalez, Vasquez and Abril would fancy their chances. Tough fights either way IMODatsue wrote:Tell you what; I'd back lots of fighters to be ahead after six versus Crawford. I wouldn't take nearly as many to actually beat him, however.
& I can't think of anyone around the weight (9-10 stone) who I'd be confident would have fun with his company for an evening.
