Rematch please. Not because of the scoring but because that was a great showcase for boxing. Not so many punches landing but so much going on in that ring. Make more 50/50 fights and we might get more of that.

I don't think anyone had Ward down to stop him emphatically, more of a wearing him down sort of effort.

You dont need to be made of particulry tough stuff to go the distance with Ward.
Kov isnt drained Chad Dawson (who still went 10 btw)

One thing that struck me, particularly in the latter rounds.
Ward shoots a neat single shot that lands and Kovalev throws 3 or 4 and only lands one.
That kind of exchange happened a few times and you should really give it even.
Some people see the single sharp shot and note the couple Kovalev missed.
Some people appreciate the higher output and maybe score one or two that Sergey half landed or clipped gloves/shoulders.
I think these kind of exchanges effect how people perceive scoring in a close round

Pauline didn't need to say that. - Smith was about to say punches landed were near identical but Wards punches landed % was much, much more accurate.
I.e. kovalev was missing loads.

Smith was his usual growling fool self without any analysis of value and talking way too much. He really knows very little about boxing, just growls rubbish.

I had Kovalev winning by 2 rounds, so not the worst decision ever, but one of the worst commentatories.
I don't think Paulie was swayed by Smith, he's just a shit commentator. Favours the fighter closest in style to himself at all times, doesn't take power into account because he had none and he's a patronising, arrogant bellend on top of it, anyone that has a different opinion must be missing something or simply wrong, like when he started banging on about how anyone scoring it to Kovalev must have been missing Ward's bodyshots. He's a prick and the sooner Sky fornicate him off the better.

I had Kovalev winning, just, but no one can really argue with the decision. Some rounds so difficult to score a clear winner... love to see it again, but this time with a decent referee and some neutral judges

Kovalev needs to make his early strength tell next time. Stop just throwing one twos looking for the right hand and throw multiple shots and look to work Ward's body much more.

Sky commentators influence each other. They develop a narrative early and don't deviate from it and only see that which confirms their expectations
Smith was terrible for it. The amount of time Kovalev immediately answered Ward back but it was ignored was ridiculous. Other time Ward would hit globes but smith would rave about his work.
Why were they quoting Eddie hearns card as well? He's never swung a punch in his life, never trained a fighter and ain't a journalist- he's there as a fan.

He's hardly a random Russian. He's an HBO fighter with American promoters & trainers. He's lived in America for about 10 years.

I can see Ward by 1 round - at the most - but THREE rounds!!!
How can you not see how ward could win the fight by 3 rounds when there were 4 rounds which could have easily gone either way? Unless you are convinced there's no way that ward won any of those rounds.

He seemed to fade a fair bit in the second half of the Chilemba fight. He throws a lot of heavy leather though so I'm guessing that factors into it

I think he's said 6'4" in the past but he looks like he could be a touch over that.
