Tough man. A lot of people don’t realise how much adversity some fighters have to come through to get to the top. They just see the fights and base it all from that, which is understandable but also unfair on the fighters themselves. Calzaghe fought to put food on the table.

Calzaghe would have had froch air punching all night.

During 3 winning ABA campaigns he was only taken the distance once

Tell Mark Delaney that he can't punch!

Even Jeff Lacey commented that he may slap but he slaps damn hard!

In terms on training boxing is not complicated, same with dieting, there are no special tricks it's just hard work.

Let's give Froch some credit.

I did hate on Calzaghe for not fighting Froch, but then Froch did the same thing to DeGale.

It's a cycle. Treat others how you were treated.

I think the Kessler match ups demonstrate that in the 2nd half a fight nobody can match Calzaghe’s engine. Froch would have been outpointed but no doubt would have been game for a rematch.

Calzaghe looked gassed after that 10 second play around .. I believe Calzaghe would have beaten Froch even on his worse night - but likely lost to Ward on his best.

Carl Froch is one of my favourite ever British fighters but I agree that he couldn't ever have beaten Joe.

Joe v Ward is harder to predict. Both were top level. On his best night, I would lean towards Joe to win in the UK and possibly in the States providing it wasn't in Cali.

Calzaghe was an amazing fighter. If his hands weren't so brittle he'd have had more stoppages in the later stages of his career.

I didn't like the Jones fight, two mates cashing out in a nothing fight.

His stand out wins for me have to be Kessler, Eubank and Lacey.

The Hopkins fight was a good win on paper, but not a great fight. Some had Hopkins winning and then there was the Reid fight that some had Calzaghe losing.

What a difference to his legacy those two fights would have made if he hadn't got the nod.

He'd have outpointed Froch with relative ease and maybe pipped Ward on workrate

Calzaghe would beat Ward. But not by enough points to beat the corrupt Yank judges.

I may have already posted this before on the thread (it's too old and long to read through) but a few years ago we did a watch-along and sort of thing on here on a number of fights and Calzaghe-Reid was one of them. Pretty sure no-one had Reid winning and the consensus was it was a clear Calzaghe win when scoring RBR. One of those fights that 'felt' closer than the scores suggested, as Reid definitely had a lot of success with single right hands. But no doubts Calzaghe won it.

I thought Calzaghe won it, but it was close. One judge gave it quite wide to Reid.

I was at that fight, I thought Reid won and so did most of the crowd judging by the boos. But, British people do root for the underdog.

For years I was subjective because I know Rob and was adamant he'd won. All these years later the best I can give him is a draw. I think Joe woul've comfortably won a rematch but I don't think FW really fancied it for whatever reason.

Found the thread in question! Took me longer than I care to admit but was determined to succeed. Lots of very much missed former posters on it

IMO he was (very) badly managed throughout his career.

robin reid is one of the sexiest boxers ever. plus world champ and olympic medalist. shoulda been a multi millions star

IMO he was (very) badly managed throughout his career.

The night he beat Wharton he was ready to kick on and be a real star.
