Isn't the point of boxing to score punches that incapacitate your opponent?
"He only won because he knocked me out!"

Savage temple shots and hit clean on the side of the head??
Hit clean is when Wilder lands on your chin and follows up with a left hook on the other side of the head on the way down!
The blows which put Joshua down happen in every round of heavyweight fights - EVERY heavyweight fight. He was destroyed by a fat slob who couldn't beat Dave Allen.
I do agree though that Joshua didn't look 'right' . But remember also - he surrendered . Heavyweight champions do not stand in the corner looking at the referee and simply refuse to fight. The ref gave him about 30 seconds to indicate his intention to continue. When the fight was waved off did you watch what Joshua did.

Think Wilder takes AJs head off for him & he doesn't get near Tyson fury all the time he's fighting him, fury just be a nightmare for AJ
Heart & gameness issues for AJ,that's no good to you if you box fury, wilder, usyk

Re: Round-by-Round: Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. - 1 June 2019
I agree.
Now we know for sure, that Joshua won't deal with Wilder's power. However, I was thinking about Fury and Usyk outboxing Joshua even before Ruiz bout.
Re: Round-by-Round: Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. - 1 June 2019
That still does not change the fact that it would comedown to who lands first v Wilder. Wilder does not get up from what AJ landed on Ruiz in the 3rd last night.

Well, I can argue on Wilder not taking what Ruiz took. Wilder was brutally stunned by Ortiz and survived that. And there was a real onslaught then, that wasn't Wlad-like case, when Wlad let Joshua go. Btw Wilder won't let him go. Actually Joshua might even remain on the ground after eating Wilder's bomb. But what about Wilder? I think, Wilder chin is better, than Joshua's one. Wilder's heart is better as well.
Re: Round-by-Round: Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. - 1 June 2019
I don't want this to be a divisive debate between Joshua and Fury fans.
But you have to compare the two. Fury gets absolutely nailed and flattened in the last round of a tiring title fight, is out cold for around 4 seconds, battles to his feet before the count ends and drives Wilder into a corner and keeps punching till the bell rings.
Joshua ( and I like the guy) gets cuffed to the ground , gets to his feet, leans against the ropes, looks and listens to the referee, refuses to walk forward, apparently in full control of his senses, and when the fights called off, simply turns to his corner.
There is a BIG difference there.

Until they fight each other it's all conjecture. Joshua will get pelters until, the rematch, everyone saying told you so knew he was crap etc.dalcumly wrote: ↑02 Jun 2019, 04:24 I don't want this to be a divisive debate between Joshua and Fury fans.

True. But Wilder seems to be more gutsy as well. He survived the OIrtiz onslaught. It looks like, Joshua would be stopped there too.dalcumly wrote: ↑02 Jun 2019, 04:24 I don't want this to be a divisive debate between Joshua and Fury fans.

Joshua showed bottle and stamina against Klitschow.
He had a bad night, and one bad night doesn't make you a bad fighter.

The stoppage was a little strange. Does anyone know what was actually said in the corner between referee and Joshua?

I agree that Wilder has more heart. Chin wise I am not as sure.DrDuke wrote: ↑02 Jun 2019, 04:22 Well, I can argue on Wilder not taking what Ruiz took. Well, huge upset obviously. Don’t want to make excuses for him, but have to say Joshua didn’t look right from the first bell. Wonder if he was ill or possibly over-trained?

Re: Round-by-Round: Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. - 1 June 2019
Boxing fans are fickle creatures.
I don't really like Anthony Joshua as a person that much but this loss doesn't mean that he was all hype and can't box etc etc.
(Almost) half of all boxers in every contest lose, that is how it has to be. Ruiz is a good fighter with a good record and now he is the number one heavyweight.
Perhaps Joshua will be back better than before and smash Ruiz in an immediate rematch, perhaps he won't.

Just watched it this morning and knew the result so I had the benefit of watching it without any excitement.
I actually didn’t think Ruiz looked anything particularly different than before - AJ looked brutal though. Slow, lumbering - which we already knew - but also little to no punch resistance.
It shouldn’t detract from Joshua’s decent wins (Whyte, Wlad, Povetkin, Parker) as he has a good record. It has though exploited some flaws which have always been there.
Reminded me more of Tyson v Douglas than anything else.

Re: Round-by-Round: Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. - 1 June 2019
Oft what a shocker I crashed out before Smith/N'Dam and my cousin txt me a spoiler this morning, just caught up with it now, I told my casual mates not to sleep on Ruiz Jr but never seriously thought Joshua would have much trouble here, up there with Tyson/Douglas and Lewis/Rahman for shockability, Ruiz deserved his win, it wasn't a 1 punch lottery he was winning the fight, the shot Joshua dropped him with was heavy and for him to get up and drop Joshua twice in the same round was impressive, left hook rocked Joshua bad and the follow right hand sent him down, another onslaught had him down again and although Joshua made it out that 3rd round truth be told he never really recovered
Joshua tried to take his time to recover like he did after Klitschko decked him and never really done much but by the 5th I thought he might have rode things out, take nothing away from Ruiz though hr was far from done, it was the right hand which hurt Joshua for the first KD in the 7th, again Joshua was hurt bad and didn't recover, the same hand from Ruiz for the last knockdown, I personally thought even though Joshua was still hurt he should've been allowed to continue, people might disagree but I thought he didn't look any worse than the previous 3 knockdowns, hurt but not done
Massive kudos to Ruiz though I'm think he was winning that fight no matter what I had him in front and it was those quick hands that everyone was talking about beforehand that won him the fight, just quicker of the mark than the Joshua who looked sluggish, the jab stats looked favourable but he was pawing with it and truth be told that left hook he decked Ruiz with was the only decent thing he done

Think the ref said to him do you want to continue.leejonesjnr wrote: ↑02 Jun 2019, 04:29 The stoppage was a little strange. Does anyone know what was actually said in the corner between referee and Joshua?
To which he replied YES, wouldn't have made any difference he was done.

Incredible viewing last night, well done Ruiz Jr!
Re: Round-by-Round: Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. - 1 June 2019
There will be some posters absolutely devastated. I wonder if they'll still be brain washed believing AJ the best heavyweight to ever exist
Re: Round-by-Round: Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. - 1 June 2019
There is a few here who wouldlnt give fury or wilder a hope in hell vs Joshua
That's changed a bit in recent months, but in the past, the biased & bizarre overrating of AJ has been quite a laugh
