Joe Joyce vs. Daniel Dubois - 28 November 2020
Re: Joe Joyce vs. Daniel Dubois - 28 November 2020
A late Dubois KO for me. Even though Joyce has fought better opposition, his head movement is non existent and he moves awkwardly and a bit stiff. Dubois right hand should land flush and end it. Hoping for a tear up

BTs ideal strategy will be to rope in new subscribers and keep hold of them. They are also using it as a showcase to announce Dubois to the casual market (clearly they/Frank are desperate for him to win) with hopefully for them a big KO.
I thought he promoted them both but you wouldn't have guessed it with his obvious bias.
I'm thinking Dubois in 8.

I don't like sport generally so BT couldn't possibly rope me in for a monthly or longer term subscription. I do want to watch this match though and would pay for it. Guess I'll have to wait until it's uploaded to YouTube as I've no idea how to stream things.

Eddie Hearn: 'Daniel Dubois is a complete novice; Joe Joyce gets hit a lot'
During a conference call, ostensibly to promote Friday’s Matchroom Boxing USA card headlined by Danny Jacobs vs Gabriel Rosado, company chief Eddie Hearn was asked (by us) for his take on the Daniel Dubois vs Joe Joyce heavyweight showdown that takes place the following evening, and where the winner will sit in the queue for unified champion Anthony Joshua. It’s fair to say the eloquent promoter did not hold back.
"It’s a good fight, and an interesting fight," he began, in a lengthy answer you can watch in full in the video, which includes his prediction. "The problem is with Joe Joyce, you watch Joe Joyce and you say, ’He is absolutely terrible.’ But obviously he’s not. He’s extremely fit, he’s extremely durable, but I keep going back to the fact that he gets hit a lot.
"Daniel Dubois clearly hits very hard, so I think Joe’s got to be careful in the early stages of the fight. Certainly Dubois is a complete novice in the heavyweight division. So the sensible thing is Dubois early or Joyce to weather the storm and outlast him.
"The winner will be British and European champion and I think that’s about right with the level they’re at, at the moment. The winner could end up fighting [Oleksandr] Usyk for a vacant world title."

It’s a better fight than Joshua Pulev
Re: Joe Joyce vs. Daniel Dubois - 28 November 2020
It's the best HW matchup of this year, except Fury-Wilder. Tied with Povetkin-Whyte.

What did he say before AJ-Whyte for the British on PPV?

He certainly didn’t say this is only a British title fight, when Whyte wasn’t even that level.

Of course he didn’t - he was promoting the hell out of it.mickey1975 wrote: ↑25 Nov 2020, 12:58He certainly didn’t say this is only a British title fight, when Whyte wasn’t even that level.
Whyte may not have had any meaningful British fights at that point but he was at British title level hence fighting for the title and also winning it a couple of fights later.
They were pushing the amateur rivalry (just as Frank did when promoting Groves vs Degale on PPV) and whether we like it or not AJ’s profile was already massive when he fought Whyte.
Eddie’s gone a bit OTT though denigrating the fight.

Frank has been desperate for his own version of an “AJ” for years and Dubois, if he has the goods, fits the bill more than Joyce.
Frank must have been watching with gritted teeth, while Eddie had been banging out stadiums and big PPVs over the years and he wants some of that for himself and BT who will want a major domestic star.
I can imagine he feels pretty good about himself, now that his show is by far the most anticipated event this year and not an AJ/Matchroom.
Interms of the fight, I think Frank would have been taking a good look at Joyce and has felt comfortable enough that he thinks Daniel can do the job.
If he is wrong than it’s going to be a serious kick in the nuts.
For my money, I think Dubois will find the punches around 5 or 6 to Stop Joyce.

Re: Joe Joyce vs. Daniel Dubois - 28 November 2020
I increasingly read others hedging their bets on JJ. They keep identifying the fact he is very big and strong - and their belief he will may just be able to absorb and later walk through and stop a tiring DD.
I have rewatched JJ and DD past fights and I just don't see it. JJ is painfully slow - he will absorb big shots in every round for sure .. and these will slow him down even more after 4-5 rounds; if they don't actually stop him.
So for him then have enough after 6 to grind DD down is just not feasible in my opinion .. the pace by then would be too slow.
I really can't see how JJ wins this.
Big respect for him for taking the fight and getting himself in great shape though, and heavyweight boxing is often unpredictable .. so whilst I don't see it - it not to say it can't happen.
Great fight

i kinda go the other way, What has DDD done to suggest he can just blast through joyce though? he may well, but honestly DDDs only realy good preformance was vs Gorman, who had a nightmare leed up, fought a terrible stratergy, gave up phisical advantages and still landed some shots.tonyevs wrote: ↑26 Nov 2020, 05:14 I increasingly read others hedging their bets on JJ. DDD had a tear up with fuking richard larty who is shit (not just saying that post fabio, saying it cause he is low levle). If you are the mythical KO machine that DDD is it should be impossible to have a tear up with a larty type, because if you do you should chin em in 30 seconds.
Joyce is massive, with an engine, a chin, can whack and should be an olympic gold medlist... he has many ways to win this, whether its early knockout (DDDs chins never been profesionaly tested by anyone that can punch), grind down, or out box.
Re: Joe Joyce vs. Daniel Dubois - 28 November 2020
I can understand all your points. And thats why this fight is so good ... even knowledgeable fight fans are torn between who wins. Such a unique situation today of one sided mismatches, when only a major upset proves 99% of us wrong.

Re: Joe Joyce vs. Daniel Dubois - 28 November 2020
Is there a way of paying for BT Sport fights on Sky without the £25 a month subscription to BT Sport?
I am keen to watch this fight and happy to pay for it but paying for a month of BT Sport seems a bit excessive, especially when AJ PPV will be £25 next month as well.
I wondered if there was a way of getting the BT Sport app or something that would be cheaper? Had a look but it seemed like you could only get the app with BT broadband?

The best and probably easiest way would be to ask a mate or a family member for their BT log in details and then watch it through the app.doctorboxing wrote: ↑26 Nov 2020, 06:34 Is there a way of paying for BT Sport fights on Sky without the £25 a month subscription to BT Sport?

Is it just me or has the publicity for this fight not quite been at the levels it should be?!
Most of the general sports sites are dedicating more space to the Tyson/Jones Jr fight.

Salas has tested positive for Coronavirus. Fortunately he hadn’t recently been in camp with Joyce so the fight goes ahead but Joyce won’t have in the corner.
Re: Joe Joyce vs. Daniel Dubois - 28 November 2020
Well I know how much I'd pay Salas for this camp. What a screw up this is. It was daft letting him go for three weeks in the first place. Now that has been compounded.
Re: Joe Joyce vs. Daniel Dubois - 28 November 2020
Yeah it's been very low key. Only found out about it due to the Tyson vs Jones novelty fight advertisements on the BT Sky channel 494.maverick23 wrote: ↑26 Nov 2020, 06:52 Is it just me or has the publicity for this fight not quite been at the levels it should be?!
