Anthony Joshua slammed for asking for free burger at McDonald's despite mass wealth

Anthony Joshua has been slammed for asking for a free burger at McDonald’s despite being worth £115million.

The heavyweight boxer went through the drive-thru to treat son JJ, six. The 32-year-old - nicknamed AJ - chatted to the worker at the window.

He told Joshua how he knew his sister Nikita. But the boxer then cheekily asked if he could have an extra burger without paying for it.He said: "You good yeah? The McDonald’s worker said: "Yeah, I’m good." The former WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO belt holder then cheekily said: "Listen, throw an extra burger for me please? You got me?"

The shocked worker then said: "Pardon?" Joshua visited the McDonald’s in his home town Watford, Herts, added: "Throw me an extra burger?" The staff member said: "What one?"

The boxer - who lost his belts to Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk last September - said: "Any one, you surprise me." One fan said: "I don’t know why he needed to ask for a free one. He has got all the money in the world.

"There are people struggling to buy food at the moment because of the cost of living crisis. Yet he is blagging free food. Also by putting it on Snapchat, the McDonald’s worker could get in trouble.

Joshua added in a post: "The kids will never know our struggles growing up. "Me: 'Can I get McDonald’s on the way home please?'

"Mum or dad: There is rice at home."

Hearn on Joshua-Usyk: Very Good Chance You Will See it on July 23 in the Middle East

Eddie Hearn, promoter for Anthony Joshua, says the rematch with Oleksandr Usyk is very close to being finalized for July 23 in the Middle East.

Last September at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Usyk outboxed Joshua over twelve rounds to capture the IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight titles.

Joshua would later exercise an immediate rematch clause.

Hearn indicates that the announcement should almost certainly come next week.

“I think there’s a very good chance you’ll see that fight July 23 in the Middle East. We have had a number of offers from around the world. We have been working through those and we’re closing in on that option. Team Usyk have stressed that that’s the option they would prefer because obviously it’s a lot of money," Hearn told IFL TV.

“Quite frankly I think Team Usyk would rather a neutral venue and I don’t blame them for that. So that’s where we’re at. Do we announce this week? Probably not. But do we announce next week? Almost certainly. You will see that fight, you will see that fight in July and you’ll get an official announcement soon.”

Hearn did not reveal the exact location in the Middle East, as there are several offers at play.

Joshua had previously fought in Diriyah in Saudi Arabia in 2019, when he reclaimed the heavyweight titles from Andy Ruiz.

“You’ve mentioned Saudi, it’s not definitely taking place there. We’ve had a number of offers from the Middle East. UK – obviously for the rematch is where AJ would prefer that fight to take place. But it’s so far out on the numbers. The US is a more lucrative site. But again you have to understand this fight is a financial split between Usyk and AJ," Hearn said.

“We can’t just go to London because it’s a home advantage for AJ when you could be talking about two or three times more money to go elsewhere. Usyk doesn’t care if the fight’s in London. He’d prefer it probably not in the UK, but he would prefer to make the most money possible. AJ would like it in the UK but just wants the rematch. He’s boxed in the Middle East before, he’s obviously had a great win out there and if that’s where it’s gonna take place, no problem. So we’re finalizing that and July you will see that rematch.”

The first punch landed of their fight was a left hand down the middle that Joshua just didn't see at all. I think Usyk is just the superior boxer here and he seems to have a good chin and we know his stamina is fine. Just a nightmare for a basic guy like Joshua. I can't really see Joshua winning. He's also got some quit in him. Once he starts getting outboxed and hit hard again I don't think he's going to make it the distance

Joshua-Usyk on July 23 in Middle East is Still Frontrunner, Says Hearn

Eddie Hearn, promoter of Anthony Joshua, is hoping to finalize all of the details in the coming days for the anticipated rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

Back in September of last year at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, Usyk outboxed Joshua over twelve rounds to capture the IBF, IBO, WBO, WBA heavyweight titles.

Joshua would later exercise an immediate rematch clause.

After a few delays due to the ongoing war between Russia and Usyk's homeland of Ukraine, the rematch is nearly wrapped up.

“I hope that this week we will get it done. July 23rd in The Middle East is, for sure, the frontrunner. It’s not done, it’s not signed, but we are nine, ten weeks away from that fight now. It’s ready to get that fight announced and it’s ready to let these boys start bashing up sparring partners and getting ready for the unified heavyweight championship," Hearn told The DAZN Boxing Show.

Joshua is no stranger to boxing in the Middle East. In 2019, he traveled to Diriyah in Saudi Arabia to reclaim his heavyweight titles in the rematch with Andy Ruiz.

Usyk is almost always boxing on foreign soil. The undefeated champion has not boxed in his home country since 2016.
