He looked good early in the first round. Cannoneer pretty much took the wind out of his sails when he was able to get back up.

Daaaaamn..... weird thing to say but Thomas Gifford getting flatlined was almost the merciful way to finish the fight in the end.... that fight should in no way lasted as long as it did.....
It was a strange situation where, towards the end, there wasnt really a significant moment where the ref could intervene......
His corner really should have stepped in...... I find it a very strange that the rules say, the corner cant throw in the towel for their fighter, but then goes on to say if they do, then the fighter will be DQ'd..... not sure the UFC's stance/veiws on this but the towel should have been thrown in minutes earlier in that bout at the minimum.....
I see no logical reason why a corner stoppage should result in a DQ

Just watched that fight, the kid took a lot of unnecessary abuse. Either the corner or the ref should have stopped it. The ref really could have stopped it about 30 seconds before the KO when he was just falling over anytime he ate a strike of any kind.

I'd like to see the athletic comission hit the ufc with a heavy fine for bouts that go on too long, it's gross negligence.

I don't think the promoter (UFC) can do anything about it. It's the responsibility of the corner and the ref, neither of whom work for the promoter.

Can't remember the last time I've seen and upkick KO. Vick's management should have him evaluated and think of possible retirement. He's lost his last 4 fights with 3 of them being by KO.

And what about the corner? I'd happily see the ref struck off, the corner banned and the UFC hit with a massive fine; we'll quickly see an end to this gross negligence of athletes if something is done about it.
I've also noticed a trending habit of refs looking at the click when making a decision on stopping a bout. I'd fire and ban any ref who i caught doing that instantly.

iirc the adesanya gastelum instance was pretty bad, the ref was itching to jump in but i remember him taking a few glances at the clock. Why do the refs even care about the clock, bizarre way for a ref to think, putting an athlete's sense of pride over his safety.

I recently ran across a poll on a different boxing forum polling if Steele should have stopped the fight.

That was a tough call for sure. I would have liked to have seen Taylor win the bout. I'm glad I'm not a ref.
