Awesome main event. Elevated both for me.
I was pleasantly surprised. I was rooting Colby. His act has grown on me. Kudos to Kamaru.

Some fighters use them more than others, but leg kicks can be a major weapon. They were clearly a big part of Volkanovski's win last night.
The big surprise was Aldo using almost none of them, even though he used to be famous for them. His standup game has slowly evolved into 99% boxing, which I'm not sure has been a good thing for him.
He has not used them for a while. I heard he had a foot injury in a fight and I suspect maybe other unreported injuries that stop him from using them. Otherwise it would not make sense, he was an absolute killer with them - best ever I would say.

I looked it up on ufcstats.com and the last time he threw at least 10 leg kicks in a fight was against Lamas which was over 5 years ago now. Either he has some lingering injury issues or he's just made the stylistic choice to stop using them.

You would have to think there is some kind of injury issue. I remember he had a scooter crash a few years ago and had issues with his foot because of it. Through the years Aldo like a lot of others has probably picked up a huge amount of wear and tear on his body. Young Aldo was a Monster, old Aldo seems to have lost nearly everything that made him great. He used to use his ground game, kicks, knees etc, now he seems just content to box.

I thought the fight was easy to score. 5-0 for Volk, it seemed like every time Max scored well Volk was able to score just as well, on top of controlling the fight for the majority of the round. A couple of close rounds that I can understand if someone gave to Max but I believe it’s giving him the benefit of close rounds. The leg kicks were obviously a key, Volk stepped in and threw every time Max wanted to throw which stopped Max from being able to throw his combinations. Just a smart game plan and excellent execution. My favourite thing about it was the simplicity of it.
The GOAT FW talk was cringe though IMO.

How long before Rogan switches his obsession with the GOAT Featherweight mantle? At least Volk hasn't been smashed by McGregor.

MMA either needs to stop the weight cutting or add more divisions. A huge factor is now being the ‘perfect size’ for the division. All the guys at the top of each divisions seem to be the guys that can cut the most weight. The only exception I can think of is MW, IIRC neither Adasenya or Whittaker cut huge amounts of weight.

Rogan just isn't a great commentator anymore.. everybody is an all-time great... he repeats the same shit over and over.... you'd have thought Covington got his jaw broke 17 times.

Any thought on Edgar/Zombie?
Surprised to see Edgar a decent underdog... maybe it is the short notice?

Unless Edgar has become a shell of himself (which is possible at age 38) he should win handily.

I'm concerned what precursors he had in place to cut to 35 when he switched back to a feather fight.

He was always like that, but got so much worse when they let Goldburg go. I think possibly since they got in a few ex fighters his analytics have proven not on par with theirs and he overcompensates for it.

Just watched Usman v Covington. Dont know why Covington bitched and whined afterwards he was banged out.

He knows the sport inside and out.
No doubt.
I like him as a commentator, always have. I just think Mike Goldberg was his perfect foil. In recent years he very much repeats himself more often and has his go to catchphrases. I guess that could be his 2 cents for the promotional side of the UFC... making sure they get those voice clips for future events....
Nothing wrong with his analytics, but at times they can a little predictable too, my mate often jibes Rogan can hear me through the tv with how often he commentates a point i had just voiced myself . Yet the guys like Hardy, Comier and Cruz, i find, will often identify and throw out these gems about the detailed nuace of a certain technique or certain traps a fighter is trying to bait. I think they just analyse with finer precision, and I enjoy being enlightened to nuace that isnt obvious.

This is an ongoing joke with my mate.... everybody is the GOAT at something or another with him. And it's rubbed off beyond just Rogan, the UFC in a wider context are hyping up their main events each week by declaring some form of GOATness. Greatest ever striking, welterweight, grappling, chin, etc. Last week they went on and on about how Nunes is the GOAT of all female combat, ever, before turning in a performance that wasn't worthy of the card against an opponent that had zero ground defence. 5 rounds of straddling the bitch on the floor. Farce.

Yea he's been in so many wars, you can tell his chin is just too fragile now. Moving to 135 isn't going to fix that. He's an ATG and I hope he calls it quits before his brain is mush.

My sentiments exactly. Always enjoyed his performances definitely a legend in the sport and seems to be a very decent fella outside it.
