Agreed, and this is by no means being wise after the event. He had the washboard abs as usual, but his face looked drawn, his arms were skinny and his skin lacked lustre. Then on the way to the ring, he looked nervous, took a few deep breaths etc... the first time I've ever seen him look like that.

Even if someone was to convince me some of Hatton's opponents were not elite fighters - and okay some of you corrected me that he fought for titles not necessarily quality opponents this was his CV after the KT fight:
2005-11-26 - Carlos Maussa
IBF & WBA World Light Welterweight Titles

2006-05-13 - Luis Collazo
WBA World Welterweight Title

2007-01-20 - Juan Urango
IBF & IBO World Light Welterweight Titles

2007-06-23 - Jose Luis Castillo
IBO World Light Welterweight Title
Note: Fight was made against Castillo to increase his credibility etc etc rather than for the title!! :o

2007-12-08 - Floyd Mayweather Jr
WBC World Welterweight Title
At the time PBF was recognised as the P4P best fighter in the world!!! :o

2008-05-24 - Juan Lazcano
IBO World Light Welterweight Title
One of the biggest ever fights staged in the UK!!!

2008-11-22 - Paul Malignaggi
IBO World Light Welterweight Title
At the time Malanaggi was recognised as one of the threats to Hatton's supremecy at 140lbs!!!

2009-05-02 - Manny Pacquiao
IBO World Light Welterweight Title
Pacman was recognised as being the best P4P fighter due to the retirement of PBF!!!
For f*ck sake anyone who complains at the CV Hatton has above need their f*cking heads testing!! :o :o
Good resume, but if he thinks he is P4P etc then he must be judged on the opponents and where they were at in their career.

Decent record for a Title holder, not for a P4P fighter.

Look at Cotto,

Margarito ( Hands of cement)
SSM
Judah
Quintanta

Those wins and the Margarito 'Poly filla saga' are better than Hattons but no one os calling Cotto P4P number 5 4 3 2 or 1!

Against the elite Hatton can not compete...at all!

All this Hatton dominated 140lbs is crap.

Who im fight?

:D
Question: Is Margarito better, p4p, than Mayweather? And is Quintanta better, p4p, than Urango or Malignaggi?? In fact, is Judah better than Tszyu??

No, no, and no.

And not just are they nos, they are clear, resounding nos all the way.

You do not know what you're talking about. You simply don't. I'm more than willing to believe that Cotto is a better fighter than Hatton, but you're arguments are clueless. You need to have a long hard look at yourself.

Like, on one thread, you used the Cotto name as someone Hatton had avoided, because he would "NEVER fight Cotto". What? So he would fight Mayweather but not Cotto, because Cotto is obviously the better opponent. Just have a think before you write in future, because right now you're discrediting yourself by the word.

In my opinion Ricky lost because

1) His punch resistance is shot, due to his binge eating between fights (even Paulie Malignaggi briefly stunned him in).
2) He lost his head (again) and fought like a complete novice, hands low, head high & just to make thing easier he marched forward in straight lines, embarrassing.

The training camp probably wasn’t great but even the best camp in the world wouldnt have helped Ricky.

Hatton first called out Kostya Tszyu in 2001. He was ready, as good as, but Kostya wasn't.

When used to implore FW to hurry up with him, when RH moaned and bitched when he got those patsies in 2004 he was ready, we moaned because we universally accepted his style wasn't built for longevity.

At 30, after 47 fights, with fluctuating focus, weight, form and a divided camp, a fit missus and £20-30 million banked......what did anyone expect?

Well it depends whether you bought into the Mayweather pantomime, the HBO lustre which worked hard to suggest Hatton wasn't faded, could jump from Lascano who made him look like he'd been through a thresher to Pacman.

I partially did. But Pacman is on zinging form, has a harmonious camp, is fresher, fitter, more focussed and remains hungry. Was quicker and was improving.

It was a cake walk. Hatton is done at that level, if he ever laid claim to a seat at the top-top table.

He's been a brilliant ambassador for British sport, is a likeable fella but he struggled like fkk with Carlos Maussa and has been brilliantly matched, brilliantly. A terrific fighter who's career peaked in 2005 and who arguably physically peaked in 2003-04.

He doesn't have style built for adapting, for figuring out skilful, elusive, awkward opponents. People were looking for him to recapture form not improve, much the way they did with Tyson. They hoped he could do it rather than validated why he would.

Fans relied on size, strength - tow qualities Jones, Mayweather, Pacman, Chagaev, Hopkins have all proven in victories over Ruiz, DLH, Valuyev, Tarver is over-rated.

Speed, hunger, skill first size later.

We'll all miss him and I wish him well. Brilliantly matched fighter -a long career from a boozy lifestyle, a face first style and, one the whole, a single division.

I hope he packs it in, shags his missus and tries to stay below Southall weight in retirement.

PBF would lead you a merry dance ( Hattons words).

Cotto would knock people out and hits harder and is bigger.

Quintana was favourite in some quarters to beat Cotto. Quintanta 'was' a bad dude.

Didnt he beat Joel Julio?

Judah presents SPEED and POWER and we all know Hatton hates speed..and power.

Margarito would knock Hatton into next week.

Go back to sleep.

I am bored of mashing you down.

You have some real messed up idea about who is dangerous and who is not.

One sided beatdowns...

I do not think people should include PBF and Pacman on his resume, he turned up and was beated to a pulp, it was not a 'fight'..

My opinion.

Post up Witter's resume without his defeats then?

I know how you feel about Hatton DG, we all know, but you stated elsewhere that Hatton is simply not that good. You're totally right - he's not THAT good, but THAT good is elite top 5 p-4-p standard. Unfortunately his flaws mean that he is pretty cruelly exposed against the top top fighters, but his strengths mean that only those top guys have the skills to expose him.
Hatton is a World Class fighter. Just not an elite p-4-p fighter. There's no shame in that, and for all your purist enjoyment of glimpses of Witter's style over the years, Hatton has dominated better fighters than Witter has scraped by. I'm not against Witter, just using him as an argument for you to compare him objectively with Hatton and give Hatton at least a modicum of credit.
Exhibit A. Basic World Class
Hatton struggled with MAUSSA, waytch the fight and the cuts he sustained.
Hatton struggled with Urango. Hugging like he was in love with him.
Hatton struggled with Collazo - watch the fight.
Hatton had rough patches - very rough aganst Lazcano.

Exhibit B. Elite World Classs

Hatton was knocked out and landed next to nothiung against PBF.
Hatton ws stretched in 2 by Pacman and landed nothing.

This tells me Hatton belongs in group A and only got to fight gripu b becauswe he sells tickets.

Do you think PBF and Pacman would have any trouble at all with the above guys ( bar Collazo for Pac due to size)

Anyone disagree?

Hatton basic World Class - same as Witter - Bradley etc.

:D

You agree with me that Hatton is basic world class, that much I accept and what I alluded to.

Not sure why Witter is basic World Class, asked you to post up his resume without his defeats....

Hatton may of lost to two p4p fighters but it's how he lost, he didn't put up a good fight against either of them and was shown to be only an average world class fighter. Winning two titles at two weights is easy in them smaller divisions when the weight difference is smaller and when you pick the right guy.

Plus conditioning doesn't make you box better, Graham and Kayes relied on Hatton's conditioning to win too much.

Max,

Got to take issue mate - whilst you say they relied on his conditioning too much - surely you could argue they played to his strengths - Ricky Hatton whilst he can legimately be called a "world class" boxer he was never going to be P4P one of the best in the skills department - no matter who trained him!!!

To box so long with the same team to then get rid of them in the twilight stages of your career was a bad move - Can't teach an old dog new tricks - springs to mind!!!

However what I want to take issue with mate is the following - I agree if there is such a phrase as "Average World Class" - then yep Hatton perhaps appears in the top bit of that class - however over the years - in fact years and years and years - name the British fighters who have appeared in the very top bit of World Class - there are not many mate and thus Hatton's achievements are still exemplary when putting it into that context.

I remember a Mayweather Snr interview where he said 'I'd like a few more fights with Hatton before taking on Pacquaio'. This was before the fight was signed, I don't think he fancied it.

I'd like to think so, but i have always had a small incling that Mayweather Sr was taken on (in part for his pedigree) but mainly as a bit of a gimmick to emphisise what a fun loving, colourful guy Hatton is "I'm hilarious, i can back that up by my choice of this odd ball trainer" It was all geared as part of the Hatton package!

For fcuk sake man, the dude can hardly string two sentences together in under a minute, and what does manage to pass his lips is usually garbage can trash talk. I would be very, very surprised if his IQ level is above 100. I find it fcuking hilarious anyone would have him in their corner.
