I have never heard anyone in a pub argue that Ricky Hatton is "unpopular" (biggest ticket seller in British boxing history) but you get that sort of nonsense here on a daily basis.

At Audley v Draskovic: her: "Why has he [Draskovic] got a belt?" Me: "Because he's the Balkans champion". Her: "So why isn't Audley fighting him for it?"

(I realise that would no longer be such an absurd question, with Russians fighting for Native American titles, etc...)

Random conversation over heard in the pub: "Listen, mate, I know my boxing. This David Kane..." (he was talking about Haye)

Also down the pub, for Danny Williams-Gammer: "Danny Williams? Danny fakkin' Williams? Get Danny Williams dahn 'ere, I'll knock 'im out mesewf!"

In university, a 5' 6" lad who hadn't done a day's training in his life, looking at the stats for a Naz fight: "'kin 'ell, Naz is only 5' 2"? I could have him!"

Some random bird behind me at a fight: "I don't understand why he doesn't just knock him out". (Yep, it really is that easy!)

Various old men drinking mild on a Sunday afternoon: "Henry Cooper would have beaten Lennox Lewis"

And my favourite, which you always hear at any fight: "HIT HIM!" (Ah, so that's what I've been doing wrong all these years!"

If anything, it is suddenly a viable fight again now they've both been crushed by Pacquiao. Not a top-drawer sporting contest anymore, but at least not the mismatch it appeared to be before.

no becuase zeroprobe isnt refering to the money aspect its a fight between 2 fights who are clearly past their best and risk doing perminent damage to thereselves by getting back in the ring

Yeah, when non boxing fans actually start inadvertently making sense for all the wrong reasons is when you know boxing has gone down the pan.

My missus often asks why I want to watch midgets fighting when I'm watching anything under about lightweight.

Always some fat bald tattooed idiot who's never boxed and thinks he's hard jeering "cmon fuckin chin im" as if he could get in and win in 10 seconds, yer right.

Some good ones on a football forum I spend time on (on the off-topic area), the boxing 'fans' come out with all the cliches..

Leading up to last weekend's fight we had previews like "Ricky will need to land one to hurt him early but will need to watch out for the big one from Pacquio" and other interchangable meaningless drivel most likely being re-quoted from The Sun.

One of my pet hates with the sport, old geezers who believe fighters of the past would always beat fighters of today, in some cases I agree but not most of the time have a look at all these records being beaten all the time. Lennox Lewis would've battered Cooper all over the place and won by a savage KO.
