BIGMARK wrote:most of us here dont have a problem with the fight or fighters and maybe your right it could be a mini classic. However the fact that the quality of FFN has dropped is what we have a problem with. I will be happy to watch this fight as i'm a fan of the sport at all levels but as someone who pays his sky money just for the boxing i'm not. Sky are helping support the sport at this level and i'm sure the money they pay for these shows allows the boxers to make a decent payday and more than they would for a show not being shown. But i think are main concern is that this seems to be the only level of live boxing sky give us fans on the sports channels with rest now used on PPV cards as your recent Sunderland card was. if Sky were picking up the card this weekend from the States or had shown the Froch fight i for one wouldnt be moaning but they are not and i'm sure as a boxing fan yourself Frank you must see this. So i will make the point again, most of us dont have a problem with you, the fight, the fighters but we do with the fact that Sky choose to feed us this and very little else. I for one am a fan of you and your stable of boxers and always look forward to seeing your cards but you must see Frank that none of us want to watch second division football every week no matter how good the games may be.
Yep that's pretty much hit the nail on the head really. Most people on here seem to respect you Frank as a very decent british promoter. I would say that it is good that you come on here and fight your corner as it were, but then would you expect a big footie club to have their manager or playyers go on the club forum ranting at people for saying things against the club or individual players?

If it's libellous then yes, but if it's a simple opinion then really I don't see what the problem is. Most people's gripe here is mainly the week-in week-out lower standard of fare on offer on Friday Fight Night these days, they are conning people most weeks with some of the matchups we are seeing.

Frank Maloney seems a bit thick reading his posts here.

Whether or not the fight is a good fight, isn't the issue. The issue is the quality of the fighters involved. Two journeymen toping a bill on FNF and you try to condone that and actually insult our intelligence here by calling us "anoraks" and disrespecting us for voicing our discontent with the DISGRACEFUL STANDARD that is on show on Friday.

I don't expect Frank to understand the point I am making here either, as he doesn't seem to be able to grasp that it is the fact that we have two journeymen (one with a losing record who has beaten the other fighter) topping a bill on Sky.

Sky payers must be seething.

Just went on betfair for this fight to gauge the odds and public interest. There hasn't been a single penny bet on this fight on betfair. 0GDP matched on the 3 markets up for the fight. Telling stats, hope it cheers up tomorrow and Friday as the betting is the only thing which keeps me interested in most Friday Fight Nights these days.

Same here. The betting is the only thing for me too. The problem is, nobody cares about this fight between journeymen.

It's like Kidderminster vs Scunthorpe... it could be a 10 goal thriller, but it's poor fare.

A post which I fully expected from someone who by using the very line he has - in my opinion treated the fans with contempt!!

Some of the Sky Shows which have been served up have been complete and utter crap!!

You continually use the "fans who buy tickets" routine - a rather predictable and mundane line to use - what about the fans who cannot find the money to buy a ticket - what about the fans who are fans but simply choose to watch the "Action" on their TV screens - they have a right to make that choice and even if an armchair fan has never been to a show it doesn't mean he is not a boxing fan!!

I used the word "Action" in my previous paragragph - it is an essential part of whether you are at a show paying for a ticket or whether you pay good money for your Sky Subscription - you want to see decent action not predictable shit!!!

You are completely correct that fighters have a right to earn their living - however it is the job of the promoter and the job of TV to put on the quality shows and on the whole put on good competitive fights where BOTH fighters have a reasonable chance of winning!!!

FTM Press - whenever you are challenged you come out with in my view personal comments and yet you do not actually deal with the subject matter in hand - it is my belief your very first line in your post treats in my opinion the fans with contempt and it is not the first time you have used the line - yet you are more than happy to use this forum when points or threads are in your favour - does that mean you are always right??

I await your rather predictable response and your to the point and personal comments!!! :TU:

Yes, we are entitled to complain before the event. To use my buffet analogy, if I'm used to sushi and get served Marmite butties, do I not have the right to complain before I eat them?

Nobody is criticising the fighters. Well, some have said Ahmed has not earned a title shot, but that's not a personal attack. Edwards, as I said, is usually good VFM. They're just not FNF main event material. You can't really get away from that, and even if it turns out to be fight of the year, it won't have changed a thing.

Finally, yes we have the right to watch it or not, but unfortunately Sky don't give us a rebate on the fights we don't watch... and as Gobbles said, we used to get Hatton and Calzaghe, now we get Chris Edwards for the same price.

That was really ugly. One guy beating another up for 45 minutes. Ahmed had guts, but it wasn't a contest. How one judge gave him 3 rounds was a joke.

I hope they start moving Sutherland on to better things soon, he's wasting his time fighting these tomato cans.

Yes. The guy is 27, and should step up soon IMO. That guy he fought barely threw a punch ffs, and he was about a foot shorter than him.

That'd be good, at least it'd be a big step up from these georgians.

Agree with that mate, it got a bit grim by the end I thought we were gona see Ahmed get KO'd badly but nuff respect to the geezer he had a heart. He couldnt get away from Edwards, basically got outmanned.

agreed. degale fought this guy in his FIRST fight, and sutherland is fighting him in his third fight... talk about regressing. these fights do him no favours and as has been said, he needs to get the finger out quickly. its frank thats making the matches, but its sutherland that needs to grow a pair of balls and tell frank that he needs to be stepped up or frank will be booted to the cleaners and sutherland will look elsewhere. this is his career and he is not fighting enough and is fighting bums that degale fought in fight number one. i like sutherland and want him to get a move on and not continue with this sh*te. He needs to think about it and if Frank comes up with more garbage, then let Frank know that Sutherland has other options.

Hey!!!

Make no mistake Sutherland is going to do the business - as much as I like to say my piece when I think a certain promoter I feel is out of order - he is doing a bloody good job with Darren - patience is a virtue - Maloney knows what he is doing!! - My problem with "Baloney" is when I feel in my opinion he treats us with contempt and only thinks fans are the ones who buy tickets!!! - he of course would think that because those that do line his pockets - nonetheless he is a good promoter and knows how to manage boxers - just wish he wouldn't treat certain fans with contempt with his off the cuff comments.

Listen you ****!!!

If Maloney was the last person on earth I would not want to get into his good books - I would rather as I normally say have my next sh*t be a hedgehog!!

Phil - I say it how it is - promoters love it when you have positive things to write and they say nothing the moment you say something controversial you are Public Enemy No 1 - quite personally I don't give a toss - I love the sport - good and bad!!

Sykes-Crolla is an OK chief support, featuring 2 largely untested novices. It probably qualifies as good only because it features two normally over-protected fighters. Difficult to see both being champions, though, (unless they were 8st 10lb or below) so I doubt it will be long remembered.
Turned out to be one the best Sky undercard scraps for quite a while, it qualified as good because both men can box, both had very good amateur careers, and both were being moved along as prospect pros, so many people were looking forward to this one, and you cannot often say that about a Sky support bout.

Nice of Sky to only show a limited number of rounds.
Yeh agreed mate that was a real shame. I suppose because the main event went all 12 rounds tho and they wanted to get Sutherland in there it was all they could do. Would rather have seen highlights of Sutherland tbh it didn;t really teach us anything we didn;t know already and then they could have shown the whole Sykes-Crolla match.

You have to feel sorry for Lowe the smallest boxer in Britian his fighter was to heavy I agree would of prefered to of seen all of Sykes vs Crolla than watch all of Sutherland who obvisioly was never going to lose and it was just a mater of whether he could do it faster than DeGale

Saturday nights, and then later, Friday nights on Sky sports boxing were really good. You just didnt want to miss any of them but now I just dont care anymore. We have had a rubbish year overall. Edwards with more losses than wins has been top of the bill twice, and is the best example of bad bills being made. The Sutherland fight was a joke, the guy didnt fight much better than a punch bag. Sykes/Crolla was pretty decent and competetive for a change so was therefore the best fight of the night. Sky boxing is at an all time low.
