I've had this argument already with dioufy but anyway- even as a Macca fan i thought the stoppage was good. his eyes didn't look good and i saw right into them as i was just behind his corner where he was looking to
classy interview by Barker i thought- 'i don't want to be disrespectful but how many more right hands did he want to take?' spot on IMO

Macca possibly didn't quite do himself justice- I'd like to have seen him commit to his jab more, maybe that could have kept barker's right hand occupied- but its easier said than done from outside the ring. he was outclassed basically.

what most impressed me about barker was that he wasn't running- which i half-expected- and he wasn't letting himself get backed up by the bigger man (macca looked a few lbs heavier in there IMO)

agree with the posters who have said they don't like the way Barker ducks down. myself and my mates were yelling 'uppercut' all night for Macca.

I think Macklin ultimately beats Barker. the graham-era macklin charging in would probably get KTFO but a cagier intelligent pressure boxer performance from macklin fighting behind the jab can definitely beat barker IMO

also its good that the crowd trouble hasn't been mentioned it almost seems to have gone unnoticed

Totally agree with Counter-Puncher Barker couldnt miss with that right hand all night McDermott looked slightly outclassed also Barker still does amatuer mistakes like when he goes out he puts his hands down i think Macklin would cause him problems but i think Barker would KO him around the 10th round IMO

umm, basically after the fight the barker fans- all 200 of them- were taunting the black country lads, about 100 of whom were opposite them downstairs, and 200 or so more upstairs. one macca fan upstairs was being directly taunted by a barker fan who did that real 'come and have a go' face all night every time he chanted he was giving it loads. anyway the black country lad said alright I'll have a bit, came downstairs and kicked off. it then went off outside. Black country pride was at least restored somewhat I suppose as from what i could see they were definitely having the better of things. my mate said at one point it looked like all the Furies were going to pile outside.

Your guy speaks about the stoppage, above. Felt bad for him, he clearly felt that he was ready to continue. You do see Dave mouthing, "Your legs were wobbly" when approached by Darren as the announcement was made. Still, he should have asked him to raise his gloves and step forward, then moved on from there.

No need for a rematch of any kind, but McDermott now has the selling point of having stepped up twice and having lost both times in contentious circumstances. He can point to this when gunning for future fights, after rebuilding via the English route.

Well done to Barker, as mentioned he talked a lot of sense during the post-fight interview.

good points terry and thanks for posting the link and i agree Maca should be able to get sub-british fights on some similar grounds to how you are suggesting.

lets face it just about 95% of fighters say they were ok to go on. i didn't like Powell saying 'he looked to the corner as he's been taught to do' as though that in itself should mean he's instantly allowed to continue. agree though maybe the ref should have asked for a bit more response from macca before deciding.

let me be clear, i think macca could have lasted out the last 20secs of the round, and possibly a round or two more if he'd been cautious (which isn't his style and i doubt he's very good at it) but as a contest IMO it was all over bar the shouting with the KD.

anyways my mate matt had said 'he's gone mate' as macca got up and he's pretty much always right on these things.

haha, yes mate, if he notices something in the fight it is generally worth listening to. doesn't say much, but it's concise and insightful. as opposed to my own style of running off at the mouth like some ADD case off his ritalin. any occasional accidental validity has generally been drowned in verbosity in advance in my case. hes a northerner though, weighs his words like he's losing a fortune every time he opens his mouth.

i'd like Macca to have a shot at someone like Thirlwall next.

I was at the fight on saturday, and thought Barker done really well. Congrats to him and hope he does well in the future. Shame about the bother outside the ring. I see it all kick off and was shocked what i see! Haven't macca's fans kicked of before? And i think alot of macca's fans went home with a sore head? I heard one lady shout (in her Brummie acsent) 'where are the others, we're getting hurt!' Glad none of this got brought up though. Also did anyone hear Barkers interview on the radio? He said he was gutted about the nonsense which went of after the fight. Sound guy.
