Thats three times on the trot that this old codger has fu*ked up and cost fighters.

1. Sexton vs Rogan debacle.
2. CHisora BITING Butlin.
3. Stopping McDermott too soon.

This guy needs to have his licence revoked in my opinion. Something has to be done.

I would say britains best refs are IJL, Howard Foster, Victor Loughlin and Richard Davies

Victor Loughlin needs to be promoted to A star if he isnt allready.

I would narrow things down to the best 2 Refs are Foster and Davies - I will not go any further than that because they both post on here!!!

I would have to put John Keane on the best ref's list and the best judging list aswell.

I think he reffed 2 fights were one of the boxers passed away? I think that is why he is so cautious.

Why not have the SKY commentators scorecard as one of (or indeed the only) scorecard, seeing as every seems to agree with it without question.

Whilst it was a close fight, it isn't unreasonable to see how it was scored as such.

Anyone who knows me knows I am a huge supporter of officials. Terribly difficult job, etc. And I still say we have the best.

I don't pay enough attention to who does what and tend to be generous and not critical.

But Khan v Barrera was absolutely out-feckin-rageous.

Richie Davies and Howard Foster for sure. Steve Gray is decent but hasn't been given A star status

I don't think referees should worry about their carrers if they are stopping fights to protect the health of a fighter.

If that was the case, then Parris should have stopped the Khan - Barrera fight in the second round, because Barrera's cut was no worse in the second round, than it was in the 5th round, when it was eventually stopped. There was only one reason the fight was stopped in the 5th round and not the second round and that's because you need to get past four rounds, in order for the fight to go to the scorecards. So Parris was quite happy that night, to let Barrera carry on with blood pouring down his face for another three rounds, just so the fight could be awarded to Khan on points and not be made a nil and voild. Hardly looking after Barrera's health that night was he.

Yes, it's hard not to be cynical about that bit of refereeing, I hate to impugn anyone's reputation, but I can fathom no other reason that Barrera was allowed to continue to fight and then mysteriously it's suddenly stopped when it gets beyond the fourth.

or have the system i think they use in Olympic diving... 5 judges, but only the 'middle' three scorecards are used.

I have done, i've watched it 3 times. It was a clear fight to score and it wasn't close, though McDonnell never stopped trying. He showed heart to finish the fight strongly despite appearing to have been outboxed and outpunched by Napa.

After a close'ish first couple, Napa found his range and worked McDonnell over the both head and body. Indeed there seemed an outside chance he may even be able to grind him down late for a rare stoppage win. That never came though he kept up his boxing pinging McDonnell with clean and clear body shots, and rights to the head throughout.

McDonnell really bit down and took the last couple by outworking Napa, who understandably enough thought the fight was already won.

It was a good fight, where McDonnell was competitive and finished well. But he was outboxed and outlanded though 2/3rds of the fight.

I don't see any case for a McDonnell win. The best case scenario could only give him 5 rounds absolute tops. Don't take it the wrong way, McDonnell certainly showed a ton of heart and all credit to him for the part he played in the contest, when lesser fighters would have given up. But he didn't deserve to take Napa's title.
