Taylor is a big bloke.

Carl said he was surprised at how big he was on the night and wondered how he made middle at all.

Looking at the pictures, he must have been living the life since the defeat and wondering where the next fight was coming from.

Ward has skill. He's tricky, but he has little power. That was patently obvious against Miranda.
I dont think the Miranda fight was a good gauge of his power. I'm not saying he has dynamite, one-punch-KO power, but he can definitely crack. It took Pavlik 7 brutal rounds to stop Miranda and he's potentially p4p the hardest hitting fighter in the game. Green couldn't topple him either and he's a puncher.

The Miranda fight was a messy affair, Ward had him hurt on a few occassions later in the fight but did the smart thing and didn't go in for the kill against a monstrous puncher like Miranda. Towards the end, when Ward feinted, Miranda froze, he was definitely wary.

If FROCH wins this Tournament and than added Bute as a WIN too than he'll have easily passed anything that CALZAGHE ever achieved.

Of cause there will still be Delusional idiots out there that say NO to that!

There is one problem ,
Bute gets to sit back and hand pick his opponents if he manages to get past Andrade.
The Super 6 will not doubt put a lot of miles on the clock.
Especialy Kessler/Taylor/Froch and Aberham (moving up)

So I really think that Bute stock has dropped , he was not willing to fight the very best.
I see that Ken Hersemen of Showtime gave him some stick, He had turnrd down great money to fight Froch.

Excellent shout, especially considering he was up by 4 rounds on two cards with 15 seconds remaining against Froch...

Who took more (learning) from that fight, Froch or Taylor? I suppose Carl, considering it was his first real big fight against by far and away the biggest name opponent of his career.

Will anyone care about a SMW not in the super six? The final 2 wont fight until 2011, so you're right in the second pasrt of your post, Bute really has shot himself in the foot here.

No thats wrong dude.

The Semi Finals take place january/feb 2010 and the final sometime during the Summer 2010 so I guess BUTE could face the Winner at the end of 2010

Also this is Boxing so there could be guys getting injured in the semi's and there could be an Opportunity for Bute to be a Replacement which would be Great.

Froch to stop Kelsser.

Froch is a harder man - while Kelsser might be techincally superior.

However this is a more dangerous fight for Kelsser than the Calzaghe one.

Against Calzaghe all Kelsser had to worry about was fast little flurrys - and he still was marked up bad at the end.

Froch will dish out alot more hurt on him and I can see him forcing a stoppage upset.

Abraham will be blown away by Froch or Kessler.. Sheer physicality/natural size..

Every time Kessler lands his straight right, Froch will reply with head and body combinations/exchanges and Kessler doesnt take bodyshots well nd cant fight on the backfoot.. basically Carl will outslug him..

Love this thread... everyone has picked someone different to win.

I think they are a very evenly matched bunch.

Froch is older, slower and is orthadox - wheras Dirrel is young, fast and a slick southpaw.

However, Dirrell has never dug deep, he does not have that 'big fight' experience like Froch now has.

One big factor which nobody has touched on, is that these flashy yanks are all coming to Europe for the first leg.

I can see Taylor, Ward and Dirrell getting their arses kicked in Berlin, Copenhagen and Nottingham respectively.

Dirrell especially, will not be anticipating 9,000 raucous screaming die hard Froch fans booing his barnet off.

Berlin & Copenhagen may be a bit more conservative crowd-wise, but will still be rooting for their man.

Bute could get in that light heavy mix with Canadians Pascal and Diaconu. That would be lucrative and exciting.

ward reminded me of ottke, vs miranda. the way he was pecking, moving, using movement and amateur skills to beat a plodding opponent.

No way, he was sooo much better than that, actually that was the first time he really impressed or should i say entertain me but he'll always be lacking in power to get his opponents out of there.

These are the Favourites in order as i see it:

1) Andre Dirrell/Ward - Can't really split them but maybe Dirrel just shades it with his power
2) Abraham - Showed his power against Miranda at 168
3) Kessler - Good but Never rated him as highly as some people do
4) Froch - Only because he has probably the toughest Fight to begin with
5) Taylor - Not sure if his heart's in it anymore but still a Dark horse

ward and dirrel are also both one armed fighters, basically. it limits their offence and but often helps them defensively. i.e. they throw so few rights that it can be harder to hit them with a left hook/jab.

For starters Kessler will win. And secondly nothing like this was ever put together whils calzaghe was fighting. If calzaghes hands didnt keep breaking everytime he fights i bet he would be coming out of retirement for this. Also by Kessler winning it will just show how good calzaghe was to have beaten him in the first place.

I think this tournament will be the ruin of Froch :(

Some real big punchers at the weight - and Froch is gonna catch more than is healthy. Not so sure the Cobra`s own firepower is gonna show itself to be anything more than it was exposed in his last two fights.

Kesslers time out may be the deciding factor. He does seem to have an awkward 1st fight.

Dirrel and Ward, for me, seem to be the jokers of the pack.

Calzaghe hurt Kessler with a body shot. Sartison stunned Kessler. I have no doubts he's going to get hurt in one of these fights. It's going to be very tough for all of the fighters, and we're bound to have some surprises.

Kessler vs Ward - I think Kessler should handle Ward quite well. It's a good fight to have first for Kessler as Ward doesn't pose too much threat offensively. But he's crafty, so Kessler needs to be sharp. Kessler UD or late stoppage, imo.

Froch vs Dirrell - Very intriguing match up. I think Froch can handle Dirrell's punches but I'm not so sure about the other way around. Dirrell might flummox Froch for a while, though. Can he keep it up throughout the bout? I don't think he can. He seems to have lapses of concentration. Froch late stoppage, imo. If Froch tries to please the crowd rather than concentrating on winning he's going to muck up his chances in the fight.

Taylor vs Abraham - I don't think Taylor has what it takes to outbox Abraham. He'll probably look good, but Abraham will show his strength and throw his massive shots, forcing Taylor back when he does. At some point I think Abraham will catch Taylor. Goodnight Vienna. Abraham KO mid to late.

ive got a feeling that if the winner isnt kessler, super joe will come out of retirement for super fight he wants that one last chance to prove without a doubt he's the best of this era and that would be it. If kessler wins he's already proved it.

Thats impossible, theres 3 fights in the group stage, then top 4 go to semis then a final - all in 10 months??? Finalists will have fought 5 fights.

Plus, it says in the press release...

In another unprecedented occurrence, five of the world’s top boxing promoters have collaborated with SHOWTIME Sports to facilitate this epic tournament. Lou DiBella of DiBella Entertainment, Dan Goossen of Goossen Tutor Promotions, Mick Hennessy of Hennessy Sports, Wilfried and Kalle Sauerland of Sauerland Event, and Gary Shaw of Gary Shaw Productions, LLC will promote the tournament which begins in October 2009 and runs through spring 2011.
