Yeah but the whole point is to work to your strengths to conceal your weaknesses, not stand there like a dick and get sparked out. If Khan fights like this for the rest of his career against world class opposition and keeps winning would you still be as critical?
Exactly.

Boxerbob, Boxing is a MUG's game.

It's a crap sport where people get hurt and even killed in there. People need to accept it for what it is.

Nobody is going to stand there and get hit so you can approve whether or not they can take a punch.

I think you're completely missing the point.

mate im not missing the point

i just dont see khan standing infront of anyone again because of his chin , this i feel could make some of his fights boring just like wladimir klitscko

jab , jab , right hand - you know what i mean

because of his weak chin , amirs style will become safety first - this could lead to boring fights , yes it might win him fights but it will turn some fans away

observer you have been on this site for ages and are well respected on here...so...

*do you think that amir and team basically handpicked an average champion in kotelink??

*do you think that roach has modified khans style so that he gets less hit???

*do you think roach has done this because he knows khans chin is very poor??

if you answer yes to all 3 then you are agreeing with what i have said

great to see it still exists

ever here of a guy named Pernell Whitaker?
Pernell Whitaker? You may have heard of him, but you clearly never WATCHED him.

Whitaker didn't run from opponents. He used to take the fight to them and would often stand in the pocket and make them miss. In fact, he was pretty damn aggressive as a lightweight.

Don't ever refer to Pernell Whitaker anywhere near an Amir Khan post again, please. Especially when you are basically implying that Whitaker was a 'runner' :o

I'm not saying Khan is a 'runner' either, by the way. He just uses his physical tools in the best way he can.

It's so easy to laugh, it's so easy to hate, it takes guts to be gentle and kind...

stupid thread. COurse his style has changed, he doesnt stand square on and get chinned anymore (cept for a couple of minor mistakes) so clearly Roach and the wildcard gym is working for him, learnt to take a dig better as well.

I think the style he has adopted will serve him well as he can beat 99% of fighters with his speed, it'll take a potshot to beat him. Hatton would get pummelled.

* No more than any other Boxer. Hatton and Calzaghe took the exact same route, but are somehow more established and respected, which is ironic since they got no Olympic history.

* Yes, there is signs of improvements from what i see with my limited boxing knowledge. He doesn't flurry any more and keep flurrying once his opponent is on the back foot. He was very Pac-esque coming in and out.

* He can have the worst chin or best chin, but he did this because Khan's defensive skills were lacking... BIGTIME.
Sure, if he had an iron chin, maybe there would be different tactics.

But Amir Khan is very fast, so regardless of the chin, it's better for him to use his speed.

KG, you are a silly f*cking troll. You need banning.

I was about to post how incredibly moronic your attempted analogy of Khan and Whitaker was but thought I'd better check someone sensible hadn't done it first, which thankfully they had.

Whitaker could make you miss when he was three feet away. He stayed in the pocket, slipped you and hit you. Hit and run? Dear, dear.

You seem to want to pretend you actually know something about boxing and look down on the vast majority of the 'boxrec excrement'. You know f*ck all, obviously, and are a complete tit.

PW didn't have the style Khan employed last night. Absolutely NOTHING like it.

I thought Khan was fantastic. I think this should be what he does for as long as he can.

i wouldn't actually say khan was running away. the most "running" he did was circle to the right whenever kotelnik nailed him. that way kotelinik could only throw left hooks most of which missed.

maintaining movement and handspeed throughout a fight is impressive. amir kep his hands moving and if kotelnik landed anything good he would volley back and keep the champ in a shell. also, in the mid rounds you have to credit khan for adding some spite into his attacks - those left hooks to the body sapped kotelnik a bit and added to the confused ukrainian's problems.

ok last couple of rounds khan didn't do anything big but this was not the blatant running of DLH v Tito. i would however like to see how khan navigates 12 rds vs a genuine puncher, such as maidana or even ortiz one day.

I was not comparing Khan like for like to PW, i was pointing out that there is more than 1 way
to skin a cat. IE hit and not get hit.

Boxerbob seems not to understand this, i am not sure what boxerbob understands actually. He seems to think the truley great fighters stand right in front of their oponents with their hands behind their back....

I think Khan will be very hard to dislodge - he has developed the perfect style to suit his physical attributes. I don't personally find his style too exciting, so I don't think I'll be shelling out for any of his PPVs in the future, but he should get maximum respect for his achievement considering where he was a year ago.

we walked out after 5th round of the khan fight last night, no excitment i think what everyone is trying to say about khan's running away, you pay good money to watch boxing, but thats not what he done last night, the hand speed is quick because most of the punches go into thin air, kotenic rarely missing made him the winner in our eyes, they were letting people in for free to fill up the stadium thats prob one of the reasons fights were breaking out, if they got chucked out they didnt pay to get in anyway, nothing to loose :witzend:

'Diddums'? This internet malarkey really has revolutionised the spine-growth industry for genuine fag enablers.

Explanation re PW understood - absolutely, the whole bloody point should be not getting hit, surely?

Ian,

I know KG can be tiresome sometimes, but what he says here is spot on:

Boxerbob makes the point Khan can only fight 'this' style because of his weak chin. Erm, what does Boxerbob want him to do, retire? Not learn from his crushing defeat? Get knocked out again to further prove he has no chin?

Its an idiotic point.

KG further elaborates by pointing out how idiotic the point is that Khan is putting off fans. 18,000 there last night, may have been 10% frrebies, who knows. But I have friends who drove to Manchester from fkking Cambridge to watch him last night and said the card was AWESOME.

If everyone fought like Gatti or Hatton it would be a narrow sport.

The only thing Khan's victory taught me was, Audley Harrison probably would have won a world-title belt had he turned over with FW.

Say what you like but Warren gets the job done. If the job is filling arena's, minimising risk and getting good paydays for his fighters.

Now that KG has explained he wasn't making a direct comparison between Khan and Pernell W, I've agreed (see above).

Elsewhere I said that I thought Khan was fantastic and that this is the style he should employ from now on.

And anyway, the points aren't my concern - it's the manner of their expression which are constantly inflammatory. Like when some lad was saying he couldn't afford Sky and the simple response was 'Are you very poor?' and the above unnecessary personal dig. I just don't think it has any place on a decent forum. Could be me being over-sensitive, mind.
