Out of the available options I voted for Mercer-Morrison.

Mercer/Morrison off that list.
One that doesn't get mentioned so much with all the others is Simon Brown & Vince Pettway.

truly unbelievable. and in addition to what you said
his counting at the second knock down would qualify
for the "fast count" title ... shocking to see someone
like this being allowed to stand in a ring.

Whitaker/ Hurtado was quite sickening, go to the 8:00 mark of this video if you don't know about it, watch the replays and you'll see Whitaker is hitting him flush. Horrible referee.

seems like most brutal has a lot to do with lack
of referee judgement.

It is the ref or the corner or the doctor's job to stop the fight. Machen's corner should have charged into the ring to stop the fight if they had to.

Too bad that you can't share some more of your wisdom with Benny Kid Paret.

Glad to see someone else sees at least some of my viewpoint.

That is a shocking piece of officiating (or lack of). As to the fast count, I think he's possibly picked up the count from the timekeeper, as he is supposed to do as he doesn't actually count 1-10.
The ref should have waved it off after the first KD, he was totally gone.

I looked at it again today.
It looked to me like the ref actually reached through the ropes trying to shoo away one of Machen's handlers from checking on Eddie's condition. The fight should have been over but I guess the ref was bound and determined to count out Machen.

Whenever I think of the most brutal KO's I've seen the first one that comes to mind is always Graham V Jackson. So sudden and brutal against the run of play unlike the Hearns v Duran where you could see it coming.

I've never seen the fight before, although read about it. I noticed that too...it's a very bizarre piece of work.
According to boxrec he's English, so god knows what he was doing.

This one would be in my top ten most brutal knockouts ever (for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world anyway).

Good point.
It's even more chilling when you factor in that Herol Graham was known as one of the finest defensive fighters ever.
It's so ironic for Herol that he will be forever remembered for being brutally knocked out by one single punch, whilst still in his prime.

Although that's not on the list the OP has mentioned, it is in actual fact a horribly brutal KO.
Never really gets mentioned much, but Tyson nearly took Marvis Frazier's head off!

For me the most Brutal KO that I've seen is Jackson vs Graham, Graham was in control of the fight completely up to that point and walked into a right hand that completely wrecked him, and if nobody has mentioned it. He was unconscious for about 5 minutes after the fight was over. Talk about Brutal

Another pretty brutal & forgotten KO is Oleg Maskaev -v- Hasim Rahman in 1999.
Rahman was knocked right through the ropes & knocked a tv monitor off a table & was out like a light for a bit at ringside.

They showed that KO on this weeks KOTV bulletin.
What was the riot about?

I think the JMJ KO is absolutely brutal. It retired Sanchez.

There is a difference between a brutal(prolonged)knock-out and a brutal single punch.
Here is one I remember seeing on TV.
