obv but im sureyou wouldnt complain if ie (if u support chelsea and drogba dives in the last min too get a pen and win but if it was the other way round you would kick up a stink) dodgy refs and decisions need to be stopped and the time to do something is now. :box:

without wanting to detract from the important business at hand I'm a United fan and I would despair watching the cheating that man has done over the last few years. I don't care if he was scoring goals in a red shirt or not. I think Hiddink has really woken him up as he stays up a lot more now I am told.
Ronaldo used to boil my p*ss with all his posturing over the ball leading up to any number of his inept free-kicks, then the infamous tantrum he had versus City, don't miss him in the least, although I admit I love the way they both play if you take out the bad bits.

The problem with boxing, and the reason why I don't think anything will be done is the lack of honesty amongst the promoters. Frank's deservedly is making a fuss on this but would really need for Mick Hennessy to say "yep, McDermmott won" for anything to happen - especially in a fight of this nature where you could say Fury's more often arm punches might be enough (if your bias, which I am sure Hennessy would be if he was asked to watch the fight again).

Lets be honest, and I don't mean this to be disrespectful to Frank - whose man got jobbed on Friday - but there have been instances in which it would seem ALL media, sky, journo's, ringside observers, thought a FTM fighter lost - but he gets the decision... and Frank has come on here saying he thought his man won a close decision.

In the example I am thinking of (Danny Hunt vs Lee Meager)... from TV I agreed with Frank's view, although Sky did edit out a couple of the rounds. But I don't know one person ringside who saw the fight in its entirety who agreed with the decision.

In order to stop these terrible decision, promoters have got to be honest - for the good of the game. Is it going to happen, not in a million years.

i think all professional fights set to run over 10 rounds or more should have a panel of judges rather than just the ref.

i agree that mcdermott won the fight and think we need three judges for such fights but that doesnt always give the right outcome either.
i remember larry o'connell being vilified in the media after his scoring of lewis against holyfield and yet most of us who know larry would know what a fine gentleman he is and regardless of his scoring didnt deserve what he got after.

That is the best post I have read in many months!!! - seriously!!!

We all know McDermott/Fury was an extremely WRONG decision - and Maloney is rightly playing "the victim" at this present time - but the serious question begs - how many promoters would be open and honest if the decision went for them - the furthest any of them would go - "that was a close fight, it could have gone either way".

People are forgetting - boxing is a business - in all seriousness - how honest can people be when livelihoods are at stake??

So - you take the honesty out of the promoters hands - this is where the BBBofC comes in - and I have never met such a bunch of spineless *********************** in my life!!! - they are the ones who have to regulate the sport in the correct manner - they are the ones who have to pick up on the inconsistencies no matter who the person is - but in my opinion it depends who you are as to whether they will rule in favour of you.

Hunt and Maloney said in the post fight interview, when asked if there would be a rematch "Well we're looking to move on to bigger things". He had no problem justifying that decision.
I see your point and I suppose its just human nature when things go in your favour. Had things happened the way you suggested hopefully we would be just as outraged and still demanding O Connor be banned/diciplined or whatever.
We all certainly would, just as we were all outraged over the Danny hunt vs Meager fight, but Maloney wouldn't.
It was up to Meagers team to kick up a fuss not me,But the diffen. with that fight was there was mixed veiws around the ringside but last friday i am still waiting to find someone who agreed with the ref.And if the broad had order what ever we would have had to obey there oders they are the rulers of boxing

But I will also state - Hennessy will be mad to send in Fury with McDermott so soon - he needs a couple more learning fights for that to happen again!!

Nope. The general concensus is that everyone thought Meager was robbed and what did you do? Justify the decision and play down talk of a rematch in the post fight interview. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, you want fairness. But where was the fairness for Lee Meager? let me ask you a question, do you still think Hunt won that fight? I can upload it to youtube if you don't remember.

There was a huge guy, just outside one of the neutral corners, during the Fury-McDermott fight. He threw a programme across the ring during one of the rounds. Security had a word with him but were scared to throw him out. He was with Fury.

By all accounts McDermott won. It must be frustrating for Maloney because McDermott is so temperamental and moody as a fighter - when he does apparently deliver, he gets jobbed, etc. Of course Maloney is right to complain.

However, bad decisions are a part of the sport. Everyone knows this. Even outrageous decisions happen from time to time. We have seen some bad 'uns: how about John Simpson "losing" to Dazzo Williams, for instance. Didn't Graham Earl get a couple of dodgy ones, and who was it that promoted Earl, though?? Fraink's fighters have also got the benefit of the doubt when many feel they shouldn't have.

Fury's "win" might make many ppl sick but it isn't the end of the world, is it? An injustice, but life isn't always fair, let alone a sport that gladly calls itself a business. Yes this fight damages McDermott's career, it has got in the way of him getting back in the horirble British heavyweight title picture, but who wants to watch this guy sulk and stick out his top lip while he fights with himself whether to even throw punches (McDermott-Williams, the other fight where McDermott got "robbed")?

However, you opened this thread with: "“No wonder people who don’t follow boxing ask me, ‘Is boxing fixed?’. It isn’t but decisions like this will only turn people away from the sport."

It's contradictory taking a "it's bad for boxing" stance on one hand, but then dismissing it as "it's their problem" on the other, depending on if you promoted the fighter or not.

Best thing is just to be honest - you are outraged because of the shocking decision against your fighter. Leave the overreaching "bad for boxing" comments to unbaised fans!

Don't expect Frank to take what you have written on board. He's just come out and said Hunt won the Meager fight and stands by his comments that were made so when one of his fighters is the beneficiary of a robbery it's fine but when one of his fighters gets robbed, "it's bad for boxing". I expect we'll be here again with Frank when one of his fighters is the beneficiary of a robbery and he'll be telling us all it was a fair decision in the post fight interview again. I feel sorry for McDermott, but have no sympathy for Frank, especially after what he has said about the Hunt Meager fight in this thread. He is happy for robberies to occur and will justify them, as long as they don't happen to his fighter. Typical promoter.

They need to have a rematch. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that Fury should not be allowed to box for another British governed title until he does (presuming John wants one).
I agree with the first bit, the result won't be changed. But it definitely should be turned into a no contest. A rematch doesn't change what's already happened. It's a joke that rematches are the answer to all the bad decisions in boxing. Sooner or later something needs to be done about it.

Bobby Vanzie was suspended for saying this type of stuff. Who were the referees in the two Earl fights? Paul Thomas and Terry O'Conner.

Not two of my favourite judges of a fight. Graham Earl and his handlers benefitted from two gifts, particularly the first one (Thomas).

I didn't see this fight, but people who I trust state John Mc won by 2-3 rounds. To give it to Fury by 6 is ridiculous.

But what are we saying here?

a) O'Conner is incompetent
b) O'Conner was intiimidated by the supposed darker elements of Fury's following?
c) Hennessy paid him?
d) It was revenge for a loss to Stan McDermott.

Well c) is ridiculous and b) strikes me as highly unlikely and d) is too childish to contemplate.

So I'll go for a) based on the fact the punch stats, so I'm told, suggest Fury threw more shots (didn't land as many as John) but threw more and O'Conner has misread the fight from beginning to end.

O'Conner should be suspended or downgraded if this proves to be the case.

As per usual, our best referee Richie Davis should have been in the middle but he cannot do them all.

In the meantime, well done Stuart Hall, a terrific little result for him!

I feel for Maloney and McDermott, I really do, they've spent a lot of time, money and effort to get the job done and then they've had it taken away.

Sickener.

i agree. when he says bad for boxing, he means bad for maloney.

bad for boxing, black eye for boxing, etc are all cliches and when one person moans, they act like the whole sport is sinking, and ppl read it, and believe it. and it ends up fueling the old anti boxing misers who just look for anything negative.

To be fair, I wasn't ringside - so in the rounds that Sky edited out I had to go on their opinion (which wasn't favouring Hunt) but I did think Hunt knicked the fight. I am only going on the view of people who I know were ringside that night (none thought Hunt won), but can understand if Maloney did find some people who thought Hunt won it.

To be fair you cant blame Maloney for any of the comments. What would you do, I mean seriously its common sense he's going to kick up a fuss when his fighter has been robbed on his own show, and also he's going to defend his fighter when he win by a round on one of his shows.

its the fact that the ref had it by six rounds that is bordering on a criminal act !!!
