No Floyd destroyed him easily enough.
He also did not cut against a score of other fighters either.

I think Ali's jab is a real scythe like blow, where as Patterson's
shots while fast also have a battering effect to them.

Partly owing to the speed of his fists, Patterson's raw hitting power is also often under-appreciated. It's usually over-looked, but he could whack.

He stepped wide alot which is why he got his legs tangled with other fighters
and I think in part this was why he was knocked down a bit by counters
while he was mid flurry, or wide stanced.

He was easily one of the fastest HWs for pure hand speed, when he
threw his bursts.

I can't think of a faster-handed Heavyweight champ --- Ali, included. Perhaps Ali had a quicker straight one-two, but Patterson's combinations were, though sloppy at times, faster than anyone's, IMO.

Of course, Louis & Tyson were extremely quick with their gloves, too...

I agree. When Patterson let go, it was an explosion. I would rate him at the
top of my list for fastest.

I think because people see him as so fragile, too, they overlook his punching power. He was a surprisingly strong puncher --- no one-shot KO artist, really, but he could hurt you in ways an Ali or a Tunney could not.

Not the most vicious finisher, though.

His footwork and over eagerness is what most likely cost him
with his frail chin and lack of potential as a top notch finisher.
Also the combinations he threw lacked the precision that he
could have had, he threw with more a reckless abandonment
at times. Tyson's combinations were a clear refinement on
Patterson.
