OZ Contender Series results & video links to date
Re: OZ Contender Series results & video links to date
Does Kani really deserve the golden glove chain seeing as he had two fights for two losses?
Wood is cut over both eyes now it seems, that will be interesting moving forward.
I thought Junior deserved to come back.

Re: OZ Contender Series results & video links to date
That was on the vote of the other fighters.
Re: OZ Contender Series results & video links to date
The boxers voted for Kani to return as they knew Izzey was the "weakest link" and if he advanced, would be easy pickings.
As for the rest of the show, good to see a bit of fitness and training techniques on display and a bit more introspection by the contenders. The appearance of Sugar Ray was a surprise and the fighters were genuinely moved to be in his presence. Sugar Ray's words of wisdom even got into the thick "noggin" of Jungle Boy, who now is the show's unabashed ham. But this may end as it appears he'll be matching off with Vic next week.
Charlotte, the 43 year old fashion veteran, finally had some input in arranging for the lads to be suited up in the best "clobber" so they could impress Sugar Ray. What he must have thought about Jungle Boy, dressed like a pimp, is not known, but must have felt he was back on the streets of LA.
The short fight it self was brutal, with Wood's eyes looking a mess at the end but he delivered two heavy hits on Izzey to win before the doctor could earn his keep. Woods entered in his NRL team's colours, had cuts to both eyes opened up (one from a clean hit and the other from an accidental head clash) and left to the tune of "gory gory to South Sydney".

If Junior was voted back he wouldve won the whole contender hands down, Oganov should win it, didnt want to see them fight in the first round

I thought we got the final for free and then had to pay for the mundine undercard and main fight?
Re: OZ Contender Series results & video links to date
Last night's edited bout between Sonni and Vic was the best so far televised with a skilful use of close-ups and cutting back and forth to the audience and corner men. It was showed the brutal side of the game with heavy hits to the head shown in slower than slow motion. It was no place for the faint hearted.
Sonni lost no fans by stepping up in class against a heavy hitter and showed he had plenty of ticker. Best line of the night was when the lads were watching the bout, went something like this:
Nadar: Vic's a bit slow, easy to hit,
Daniel: But when he hits you, he fvcking hits!
Sonni will be missed from the series as the show transformed him from the team tool into a bloke with a quirky sense of humor (were those one-liners scripted or not) and a determination to succeed in life, realising that he can't go further in the sport unless he has some ouside help.
Next week it is Daniel versus Josh. The teasers are not conclusive.

Nice wrap up mate.
How funny are the sound effects they use when a punch lands

Re: OZ Contender Series results & video links to date
Sound effects today are a far cry from the old Kung-Fu epics when an assistant just stood out of camera range, clapping two wooden boards to simulate the punches, hits and especially those face slaps.
Cheers.
Cheers.

The dubious decisions and the shabby scoring, eg. Junior's loss(?) to Victor have now been given a run in the media:

But as Mundine and the producers know and follow the words of Oscar Wilde: "whats worse than being talked about - not being talked about"!

Goodbye Kiwi.

Good fight by Clenshaw, He Destroyed McKinnon
Re: OZ Contender Series results & video links to date
I must admit I was a little shocked, I guess when Clenshaw says a million percent we should take notice.
On another note is Charlotte aging by the show? She looked about 200 years old standing on the beach...

Sun and fair skin do not mix. As somebody with 13 Irish and 2 Scottish great-great grandparents I can tell you that is a fact.Marlin wrote:I must admit I was a little shocked, I guess when Clenshaw says a million percent we should take notice.

Re: OZ Contender Series results & video links to date
Finally got to watch a replay of the show and it is getting a bit tedious / sameness apart from the fight which you hang on for.
It is all too predictable with the lads lolling around the house, then a bit of training, face-off (ie. how many takes did that one take as the guys looked like they were breaking up), family introspection, psyche-up etc.
Charlotte, the 43 year old veteran of a million indoor shoots, is certainly no beach babe as the sun turned her skin into a wrinkly mess at the "Claytons" challenge, which added at least added a bit of comic relief and padded out the episode. "Aussie" Joe Bugner taked some sense at times but overdid the "ham" role.
When we got to the fight, rounds 1 and 2 were edited down to 30 seconds each, 3 and 4 came in at one minute and the best bits were saved for round 5. Josh rose to the occasion with a hard earned win and is now typecast as the show's "battler". Daniel did a lot of talking humself up but the "kullin' and crupplin" were missing in the ring. Interesting that one judge scored all rounds to Josh, which raised a few guffaws but from edited highlights who knows. Maybe Daniel was getting a bit homesick and had too much respect for Josh as both a bloke and a boxer.
With only two Mondays left (28 Dec and 4 Jan) but three fights to go before the 11 Jan final, one must assume that the 4 Jan show will be a double header semi-final.

great wrap up again mate
Re: OZ Contender Series results & video links to date
Once Hamdan was knocked down that was it. Too hard to come back in a five round fight when you concede a 10-8 round unless you KO him.
