2009 World Cup of Petroleum Countries
Re: 2009 World Cup of Petroleum Countries
The USA team is feeling the cold in Siberia. The actual air temps are 35-40 degrees below zero (F) with wind chills of 50-65 below zero (F). The temps look like they will be improving slightly over the next few days so it will only be 15-25 below with wind chills of 25-50 below zero. Yikes! They only go outside for a couple of minutes and their breath moisture freezes to their hats, scarves or whatever they have covering their faces.
Team USA will travel from Surgut to Khanty-Mansiysk tomorrow morning (Wednesday) and the competition starts on Thursday. Good luck to them all.

I thought petroleum countries were warm. Who's idea to go to Siberia?? 50 below zero!! What kind of gear did Everlast provide for that? None of your skin should be exposed to that.Dennis wrote:The USA team is feeling the cold in Siberia. The actual air temps are 35-40 degrees below zero (F) with wind chills of 50-65 below zero (F). Re: 2009 World Cup of Petroleum Countries
I'm glad that Jr. (Caferro) and Jordan are getting a lot of Intl experience in the books. I think they have about 7 bouts internationally already. It will definitely pay off.
Re: 2009 World Cup of Petroleum Countries
Everlast provided each boxer two uniforms, a warm-up suit, dri-fit long sleeve compression shirt, hoodie sweatshirt, t-shirts, training handwraps, velpeau handwraps, and a few more things. USA Boxing or Everlast also provided hats and a winter coat. The boxers were told to pack for extremely cold, sub-zero weather including gloves, long underwear, boots and warm clothes. Jordan took several pairs of cold weather compression pants/shirts along to stay warm, but in that kind of extreme cold there isn't much you can do. Frostbite is a real risk for any skin exposed for more 5 or 10 minutes. Maybe Russia is looking for an advantage by putting the tournament in Siberia in mid-December. It is like playing the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field in mid-December - most NFL teams aren't used to that cold weather. However, Green Bay seems like a tropical island when compared to Surgut and Khanty-Mansiysk.

Re: 2009 World Cup of Petroleum Countries
I don't know if I own anything appropriate for a trip like that. Right now the TEMP is -29°F!!! They are definitely looking for the advantage. That's ok, we'll return the favor when we have our US-Russia Dual in Death Valley in July. See how they like 140° "warmer".Dennis wrote:Everlast provided each boxer two uniforms, a warm-up suit, dri-fit long sleeve compression shirt, hoodie sweatshirt, t-shirts, training handwraps, velpeau handwraps, and a few more things. Re: 2009 World Cup of Petroleum Countries
I would take all sorts of cold weather compression gear, a snowmobile suit, gloves, boots and helmet. I would look like an astronaut or something and I still wouldn't stay outside for very long. I like your Death Valley idea, except I don't particularly want to go there either.DCAmateurBoxing wrote:I don't know if I own anything appropriate for a trip like that. Re: 2009 World Cup of Petroleum Countries
Since there are only 11 or 12 countries at the tourney & most brought a team of 8 or less, there will be a lot of byes tomorrow.
Re: 2009 World Cup of Petroleum Countries
At least Junior is from Montana; a week or two back our temperatures were well below zero as well. But dear God, that's cold over there.

Re: 2009 World Cup of Petroleum Countries
Spence may not have too tough of an opponent as Mojko is not one of the top-ranked Russians, but that doesn't always mean anything as the Russian Boxing Federation produces so many top boxers.

Re: 2009 World Cup of Petroleum Countries
I think you will be able to watch the bouts on the internet. The Russian Boxing Federation site is listed below. I wish I would have known about this 6 or 7 hours ago so I could have seen my son's bout.

Thanks Dennis and everyone for these postings. I'm trying to follow Minnesota Boxer, Robert Brant. He'll be boxing at light heavy weight. I wonder if I embed that "rutube" if it will stream live.

If it is live, I think it starts at 12 noon, which is 2:00am EST. Is that right, Dennis?LiveFromRingside.com wrote:Thanks Dennis and everyone for these postings. The USAB site is wrong then. The team just left for the NOON session which starts in 90 minutes.DCAmateurBoxing wrote:USAB site's says "Friday's quarterfinal action will be contested in two sessions beginning at 2 p.m. Russia time (4 a.m. EST) and 6 p.m. (8 a.m. EST) at the Tennis Center in Kanty-Mansisysk." Re: 2009 World Cup of Petroleum Countries
I was just watching the RUS vs MLD and the russian was leading on points 5-3, and they were NOT counting his opponent's blows. the russian was getting the crap kicked out of him. Finally, the MLD dropped the russian with a wicked shot, then they HAD to score a point for him, it was then 5-4, then the MLD wobbled and rocked the russian again making him fall back into the ropes, then it was 5-5, then he went after the russian stronger, then the broadcast was mysteriously dropped. What a coincidence! I bet the russian wins since we could no longer see him get thoroughly whipped.

Duran Caffero is fighting BLR right now.. he was down 0-2 after the first.
Hes being more aggresive now and hes down 3-1
it was 2-1 almost the entire round until the very end
