Wrists wrote:Ah DG I have missed your objectivity on all matters Richard Hatton!

Facts are:

1. He is a 2 weight world champ
2. He beat a legend in Tsyzu fair and square and did it the hard way by going toe-to-toe
3. KT was not passed it and about 80-90% of boxing fans, writers etc etc though Ricky would get not just beaten but badly beaten.
4. Castillo - was thought of as a threat before the fight
5. Collazo - it was a KD and Ricky won the fight, close but he won
6. Malignaggi - a lot of people were 50/50 on this, fact of the matter Ricky slaughtered him in a fashion no-one has managed, even Cotto.
7. He was/is a truly world class fighter and at his peak was in the p4p top 10.

Now a bit of balance:

1. Hatton's punch resistance is no where near as good as it was.
2. He has lost both times since he stepped up to 'elite' level.
3. His habits between fights are not ideal (although who am I to judge).

For me, Hatton has doen great things for British boxing and deserves to be lauded not constantly shot down. He had genuine cross over appeal and provided many nights of excitement.

I for one hope he retires but I tell you what if he fights Marquez and Khan I for one will be there like a shot.

Ricky Hatton took 30,000 Brits to America in under one week. Thomas Cook don't even come close to that. That in itself deserves huge respect, OK there wasa lot numb-skulls no doubt booing the anthem etc..but not all of them. I don't think that statistic will be bettered by aBritish Boxer again , EVER. There won't be enough aviation fuel left for a start by the time the next fighter anywhere near as popular comes long.

Spot on, good post mate. :TU:

Tszyu was not past it by any means when he fought Hatton but at the same time I'm inclined to believe he wasn't at the peak of his powers for that fight.

He was past it*, but hatton was all wrong for him, as vince Phillips proved in their contest... in the words of corporal jones "they dont like it up 'em"

*it being his best

KT was not in his prime, he was past it.

Waaaay past it!

Good win for Wricky, but not the 2nd coming!

Wricky was/is very popular - that is beyond dispute, was he elite? No - very good fighter to a point - but not elite.

Bruno was more popular then Lewis - but Lewis was better at fighting.

:OhYes:
