Problem is that nobody is interested in Commonwealth titles anymore. The old Empire titles used to mean something, but lately with all the alphabet belts a fighter has a good chance of winning a 'world title' without having to go halfway around the World.

They're still a fairly big deal in the UK and in Commonwealth African countries, but I agree it's a shame Aus and Canada don't vie for them more.Brute wrote:Problem is that nobody is interested in Commonwealth titles anymore. As for "world" titles, I'd like to think if I was in that position, I'd choose the Commonwealth over the WBF... and it has been done! Matt Skelton won the WBU, and then promptly relinquished it so he could hold on to the Comm belt.
Perhaps if the Commonwealth body could affiliate with one of the big four and give holders a top 10 ranking, as the EBU, OPBF, PABA and NABF have done, it would be more attractive.
