Ortiz just believed in his own hype and took it to Maidana .. thus playing into his hands and giving him the only oppurtunity he had. Maidana is a tough guy - but very crude.
I think khan would take him, its not like khans got a week punch and if you look how much his power has increased he has a good chance of sparking maidana early one.
Thats the problem that Ortiz had. He found he too could land heavilly on Maidana .. and stood there trying to finish him.
No matter what the `experts` say. Khan is still very open when in offence.
If he boxed the safety 1st way like the Kotenick fight, then I think he`d widely outpoint him .. After all - disputed or not - Kotenick did it.

Not sure where you get the belief that his power has increased??
He has always been a fast starter and demonstrated if he caught a guy early he could pile it on and get the stoppage.
This is his second fight at the new weight. Barrera said he couldn`t hit hard, Kotenic wasn`t bothered much by the power of the shots(only the speed) and Salita went out in similar fashion to Graham Earl

I think Khan could beat Maidana fairly easily if he sticks to a plan and boxes his ears off, when Ortiz boxed Maidana he was winning but when he traded with him thats when he got into trouble if Khan stuck to the plan then I think he could easily win wide on points, but it would be risky for him as Maidana is a lethal hitter

khan would get all the respect of the world if he beats marcos maidana and the critics will most definitly be silenced butt the problem is maybe khan can indeed beat maidana but he just needs a lil more experience because hes getting better & better
anyway im curious if khan will vacate if he doesnt i hope he and freddy will make a good gameplan and beat maidana!

I`m sure GoldenBoy will be pushing for Ortiz to get a shot.

critics are critics mate. all they will say is maidana is an average fighter if and when khan beats him.. the WBGAY are idiots. making khan fight 2 mandatory's. they should have jus made khan fight maidana instead of salita.
i personally think khan would school maidana. roach will implement a perfect gameplan.

it looked like he was fighting alexander, but i read somewhere that he's targeting khan instead now. probably khan can fit in a fight with nate campbell in the interim, as he's just stopped the mandatory in one round. if he does want to duck maidana - a serious puncher, if nothing else - then surely he'd have to secure a fight with one of the rival champs. but when you look at the way tim bradley slugged and boxed vs that hard-nut peterson kid, he would be one to avoid as well.
if khan beats a puncher, as maidana is, then this puts the prescott stuff behind him (IMO).

Agreed

maidana is very crude .. but he is a good puncher.. a win over maidana would put a Prescott rematch kinda moving backwards.

I really think Khan should fight him he has the style to beat him, boxing and moving when Ortiz boxed he was beating Maidana convincanlly it's only when he went to war with Maidana he lost it, I think Khan has the discipline and skill level to outbox Maidana and win widely on points.

More experience?
He's the champion.
You don't say "oh im not experienced enough to defend against this mandatory.. he turned pro 6 months before me" when your the title holder !
Anyways, Maidana got jobbed against Kotelinik via a split decision, despite being all over him and backing him up.
Khan was scared to death of a soft puncher like Kotelnik, yet maidana was pushing Kot all over the place.
Khan can beat Maidana - but to suggest he would blow him out like a Salita is completely unfounded. He would need to stick and move, clinch and tuck up all the way through the 12 rounds.
If Khan ran out of steam against him, he would be knocked over.

i reckon this fight WILL happen but dont think it will be kahns next opponent , warren will argue that he should be allowed a volountary defence as the title wasnt vacant and maidana will then be forced to fight another eliminator or warm up bout while kahn cashes in against marquez (unless hatton fights marquez instead ) , kahn will win both fights though but i reckon he will get knocked down by maidana , just that hell use his experience from the prescott fight to recover and win on points

It's been confirmed that the WBA have ordered Khan-Maidana or Khan has to vacate. The article also says that Maidana turned down the chance to fight Devon Alexander to get a crack at Khan. Sure will be interesting to see what Khan and Warren do.

I don't see them vacating, and with roach I don't see many fighters at 140 who are a real problem for Khan. Aside the obvious lack in one area Khan is a good fighter, he beats Maidnana everyday.
I also think they will take the fight, if Khan can survive the first few rounds he should be able to frustrate and outbox Maidana. Personally I think Timothy Bradley is one boxer who would beat Khan at 140, I havn't seen enough of Alexander to make a decision on him but from articles and the bit of him I seen against Witter he seems to be decent.

I think hell will freeze over before Khan cleans out the 140lb division with Bradley, Alexander, Urango etc all holding titles.
Then we have the second tier of fighters like Kendall Holt, Ricardo Torres, Peterson etc.
None of them are pushovers like Salita.
If Khan defends then props to him and i'll root for him.
If he don't then expect a tidal wave of deserved criticism.

I wasn't implying he'll unify 3 divisions, just saying if he did he would still get criticism. Although having said that based on the names you've listed above the only person I can see giving him any trouble is Alexander and "maybe" Bradley.
Other than that I can see him cleaning up one of the weakest divisions in Boxing based on the names you've listed above.

The sad thing is that Hatton isn't old but his body is because of the way he's abused it.

You really think that only Devon Alexander and 'maybe' Tim Bradley can give him "trouble" ?
It beggars belief how some have swallowed the hype so badly.

It is surprising the utter belief in Khan based on a new trainer and wins over guys who are no big shakes in the division anyways..
It will be very interesting to see if Khans people have the same confidence as his cheerleaders here
Warren has stated he didn`t want the Prescott fight when it was 1st mooted .. does he know believe Khans chin has improved enough since that disaster to face a bigger, better puncher in maidana????

Its Khan and indeed Hayes week chins that make them marketable - If they got ko'd by a fighter the rematch is still going to be big business due to the fact their boxing skills still make them capable of winning it. Neither of them are likely to loose on points ever.
Khan would easily win a rematch with prescot. If haye gets sparked by one of the klitschkos he will still get big fights and a big purse rematch.
Being a bit chinny is what will make every one of their fights exciting to watch, anyone can ko them but equally they have the ability to ko anyone too.

I kinda agree.
Though how Haye boxed the giant last time suggests he too could be one of the scared guys who just runs and runs from the Klitschkos after running and running their mouth off beforehand
Also. Is Khan this big puncher some here are now saying - simply cos he bowled over Salita? Way I see it. Khan has very good boxing skills, very average punch power, very bad chin.

Its not so much that khan is a power puncher its the fact he lands with speed and accuracy, he has the ability to steam roller opponents with a relentless blur of punches. He does have the power to drop a guy in one punch but you couldnt rate his power up there with urango or hatton.
Haye didnt really have a choice in the way he fought valuev, i think he treated valuev like a an obstacle he had to get past before the good fights can take place. Haye is generally very exciting to watch and his confidence is definatley genuine. He was wearing a blue t-shirt on his way in to the fight which symbolises patient tactics, compared to when he wears a red t-shirt which symbolises aggression.
