Alex, its the game plans I like so much, He always puts together a great performance. No fuss. Just a great pro who is all business.alexpaterson wrote:I watched Bradley vs Peterson last night and he looked superb so sharp and came up with a very good gameplan, his head movement was brilliant to get inside of Peterspn's straight shots and boxed beutifully from round 6-8 round 6 he was amazing he didnt get hit and his combo's were so good I was so impressed with him. I really rate Khan I think he's a good boxer with fast hands and in Freddy Roach will come up with a masterful gameplan but I dont think Khan could execute it against Bradley, Bradley would slip Khan's shots and come inside swarming him with his own punches he also has a great chin and brilliant workrate I see Bradley winning widely on points, if Khan threw a lazy jab that he sometimes does Bradley would throw that big right hand and might land it, but I dont think Bradley is a good finisher he had Peterson hurt a lot but couldnt finish him.

Yeah I agree. Before he fought Witter I listened to an interview with Bradley wher eh said he'd analysed all the styles of the top fighters at 140 and has got gameplans for them all......... his gameplan Vs Junior was bang on the money and by the sounds of things that trend has continuedDavidPayne wrote: Alex, its the game plans I like so much, He always puts together a great performance.

Yep and he deserved that victory over Campbell. Hopefully he'll (Bradley) go up against Malignaggi next.
Re: Timothy Bradley next in line for Amir Khan
Wouldnt put Khan in the same Town, let alone the same ring as Bradley.

I hope Peterson comes again after that defeat he showed a lot of gut's but lacked that quality at the end of the day but he's still young and I think he could be a world champ he did have quality I would like to see him fight Kotelnik next
Re: Timothy Bradley next in line for Amir Khan
i haven't contradicted myself. it's just that ppl like to pass me off an an 'ippocrite or jump down my throat to score points.Counter-puncher wrote:gordon bennett mate how many times do you want to contradict yourself in a single postAutobarn wrote:tim bradley's exalted status on here is a bit rich. he's not looked anything special until the latest fight. and that was against an inexperienced (if promising) talent who didn't know what to do. just because he fought 3 tough opponents doesn't make him a great fighter, a pound for pounder (though amdittedly the current list feels well out of date and in need of a shake up, and if ppl like bradley can shake things up, that's good), or "the man" at light welter. i'd think that latter title is wide open after pacquiao brutalized hatton, before moving up to welter.
that said, braldey is good. badley is definitely a good test for khan. it is within khan's abilities to win, provided he can go at a fast, hard pace with braldey.
bradley's on a bit of a roll. his competition at 140 isn't p4p intergalactico mad dollars baby. but noone's exactly giving him an 'exalted' status are they?
other than saying basically he's almost certainly the best outside hatton at 140, and possibly as of now better than hatton, i am not aware of anyone making huge claims on his behalf.
anyways, as for him 'not looking special': this is autobarn, right? boxrec's own substance over style merchant? boxrec's own cheerleader for all things pressure-fighting?
since when did 'looking special' blow the wind up your skirt anyway? i thought you were a pragmatic yorkshireman, 'all about results' and all that.... :P
and you have to say surely on recent form bradley's the results man in the division. not to mention that he has a kind of educated pressure style, of the kind i would expect to have you gently fondling yourself and mumbling sweet nothings at the screen.
anyways as for khan fighting bradley at a FAST pace? why on earth would he want to do that? at least if you assume as i do that fast pace = punches thrown = risk. or, fast pace implies both men standing and trading, etc.
khan wouldn't stand and trade with him i am sure of that.
bradley is solid. he's the kind of guy you get interested in after about 3 or 4 top fights. he keeps on winning and then really puts it together. i've given him credit, but pointed out that he's hardly spectacular, or hasn't been until now. look, i am pleased for him. i felt peterson would perhaps surprise him. so that raises badly in my eyes. but do i need to go overboard? let's put peterson in perspective, which takes a little bit off badely's good win: talented, but zero world level experience.
i don't have to rave about him because he's an aggressive fighter. i respect him but i'm just not too bothered if i'm being honest. i would only watch him, really with enthusiasm, vs a big name opponent.
let me clarify re the fast pace. braldey will be cutting the ring down. it won't be a fight in which khan can tuck up & run off to the sides and take a breather as with kotelnik. khan will have to get the shots off quick, pivot over to the sides. again and again. it will be fast and hard. he'll have to show imagination. he won't be able to just add a few body shots mid fight as with kotelnik. this will be a more urgent fight, and would tell us a lot about khan. and he'll have to land clean, not on gloves, to discourage his man.
Re: Timothy Bradley next in line for Amir Khan
when i think of bradley, i don't think of control, i don't think of surgical shot selection, idon't think of great repertoire. to me, i see bradley, head down, butting nate campbell, and wanging arm punches at his midsection. that's not what i look for in a pressure fighter.
with 2 KDs against him vs kendall holt, this dominant bradley the top light welter still feels a bit iffy. but he is coming along well, and improving.
PS CP, i have greatly enjoyed slick southpaws bute and martinez of recent. bute always had skills/power. but i questioned his fighting instincts well before controversial W over andrade. in the rematch (and the previous fight, v zuniga), it was therefore brilliant to see him shorten his shots, work the body and head both, to have a ruthless game plan, and not be content to cruise, to stop a tough cookie early...and obviously it was brilliant to see sergio martinez outbox dangerman paul williams over the first half, with sharp hooks and crosses. and then to outwork the bigger, stronger man down the stretch. always though martinez was a smooth bugger. now i now he's hard as nails, also. some posters are stereotyping me a bit.

understood, 'barn, and you know i'm just messing with you, with the stereotyping stuff right?
i think bradley's work is a little better-structured and less sloppy than you suggest, personally. one example, his jab to the body was a big part of the way that he was able to control distance against Witter. not a flashy tactic but showing that gameplan mentioned earlier- not easy to keep jabbing to the body against a fast/heavyhanded counterpuncher like Witter, but Bradley kept knocking him that little bit off his rythmn and stride, and setting him up for the overhand right.
to me he showed, especially in his first world title fight, great grasp of fundamentals. sure the gameplan was solid but it takes the fighter to carry it out.

gotcha, and agreed 100%
tell you one more thing about that. people normally associate the setting of traps with backfoot counterpunchers, but watch out for Bradley setting traps as he stalks Khan-
khan used to have a horrible little habit of trying to escape through the side door with his hands down, it got him in the wrong position and knocked down against Gomez. vs Witter, Bradley was able to land right hands as witter was trying to get away on his right side, feint with the left jab and over the top with the right as witter moved away/into it.

Very tough test.....fair play to Bradley, since beating Witter he has taken on some tough, tough guys - Cherry, Peterson, Holt etc.
Great attitude, if Khan outboxes him over 12 he deserves all the praise he gets...
Re: Timothy Bradley next in line for Amir Khan
i'll have to watch some more badley, CP. now is about the time, with him making a big statement last saturday, and with 140 perhaps about to heat up.
just one thing. he is a short aggressor. is it possible he's just about peaked with that special performance last weekend? you know what happens after an impressive peak, with that style and build of fighter. or will he keep adding to his game, and be around long enough for the good fights, and to build a big body of work?

He's cleaning out the 140's.
And he seems to have ambition and appetite to match hid dedication and discipline.
I've been saying it for a while, he's not rated as highly as he should be.
I'd take him over Hatton, Marquez, Khan etc.

i think witter, cherry, holt, campbell, peterson is a really nice little resume for this point in his career.
peterson inexperienced, sure, but we all recall the similarly (in)experienced Ward giving heavy favourite Kessler a lesson recently.

good question. couple of things to remember here, though, (1) for an aggressive fighter he has well-above-average speed and athleticism. that will help to prevent taller rangier fighters finding him out and dealing with him purely at range. (2) similarly i think both his skills and his in-ring intelligence are better than the average aggressive fighter's. started slowly vs Witter but gradually warmed to his task and worked out a fighter who isn't easy to work out stylisticially. he wasn't just outworking witter willynilly but picking his spots, etc.
as an example barn imagine if he fought (say) Urango. he wouldn't be able to work his pressure game pushin Urango back, i would guess, but i would bet you he would still school him- with a less wrestling-intensive version of what Hatton did, in and out of range at will.
urango isn't the best example, as we all know his limitations, i'm just saying that Bradley is far from being limited and thus i don't think he's anything like peaked, just yet. i hope not as i really respect what he's done lately, he's been busy, sought out decent challenges within the division including a unification, seems a hard worker with a good attitude. what's not to like?

Still find it surprising that people see a Bradley Vs Khan fight as such an easy night for Bradley. While Bradley is a young hungry fighter who is improving, he is a long way from the finished product. Bradley may not get much mainstream praise, but he is way overrated on here. Where's all the hero worship for Holt? Holt kept Bradley at range and boxed him, losing an increadibly close fight that Bradley only won through determination and tenacity, not skill. Take a look at the end of that fight, Bradley had no idea whether he'd done enough to win it. He was also falwed twice. Khan offers the same lenght as Holt and has proved he can fight off the back foot now. He'll also likley have home town advantage. If he replicated Holt's peformance he'd get the nod on the cards. Bradley's bussling style where shots are followed with his head has worked well for him, but its not exactly p4p boxing. He'll also struggle to bring his head into play against Khan. I don't think its much of a stretch to imagine Khan taking a wide decision against Bradley. I'd say its a 50/50 fight and far from the easy nights work for Bradley some are painting it to be.

Bradley may not be a super slick boxer or a dynamite puncher. But he does what he does very good because he is a very clever boxer.
Khan has done very well to beat the two guys he has at the new weight. But lets not forget who they were ..
Re: Timothy Bradley next in line for Amir Khan
See this as a 50-50 fight. If Khan remains disciplined he can win a decision. He needs to be ready to put the lock on Bradley though, because he will get tagged and needs some survival tactics.
Re: Timothy Bradley next in line for Amir Khan
Holt has similar physicality to Khan. It's worth acknowledging most of Bradley's best peformances have been against fighters of similar size. Bradley is also a little light welter, he has eventalked about dropping to 135 in the past. I've watched plenty of both guys now and its not just a case of plucking out Bradley's worst peformance to draw a conclusion. Bradley is solid but not outstanding. He is an incredibly fit fighter with decent hand speed who fights to a plan. Thats all. Bradley is far from infallable. People are talking about his fights like he is a 140lb leviathon. He has a bussling style and does well when he can get his head into his opponent but he can be boxed and has been dropped and rocked more than once. I seem to remember Cherry catching up to him late on (11th). Don't get me wrong, Khan has shown much more fragility but this fight is not the forgone conclusion some are making out. I thought Cherry took a couple of rounds of Bradley as I recall, but fair enough, its all semantics I guess. Holt certainly had plenty of success though. Anyway, I'm not trying to paint Bradley as a pug, I think he's a solid fighter moving in the right direction, I just don't see him as the 140lb monster some are painting him to be. I also don't see Khan Vs Bradley as the mismatch some are painting.DavidPayne wrote:

I agree with you that Bradley isn`t a `140lb monster`.
But I just see him being too good and rounded for Khan. As said previously - Bradley always has a gameplan.
Too much has been credited to Khan(and Roach) since the Prescott defeat. Its almost as if people are not taking into consideration the real quality of the guys he has faced.
Can anybody honestly evenly compare any of the guys to Bradley?

WTF are you talking about 'Holt lost an extremely close fight'?!?!?!?!? Outside of the 2 KDs Bradley won every miniute of the fight beating the fight out of Holt and showing some serious heart as those KDs were pretty heavy. Holts style was tricky and he is fast and rangy against teh shorter Bradley (Hattons height), so Bradley had to get in close and grind him down while Holt hung on for dear lifeCheckHook wrote:Still find it surprising that people see a Bradley Vs Khan fight as such an easy night for Bradley. Khan is another tricky proposition for Bradley, Amir gets underrated on this forum he has a load of world class tools
