the hatton gravy train has long since departed, we now have a shot man who is a shadow of his former self, laid out in the last few years, bad bad knockouts x 2
ricky should be offered the same words as graham, earl. 'thanks for the memories son, now call it a day...please'
hatton does not need money but is still driven by greed.
any decent fighter out there now is gonna put him away, and i include khan and witter in that equation. torres, cotto, marquez, bradley, alexander etc etc would all eat him alive. i would bet my house on rendall bailey stopping him too.
ricky has gone, past it, so lets move on before he gets hurt. too much bodily abuse between fights has taken 5 years off his career.

It's hard to get excited about Hatton any more- it just is.
There are some potential classics against domestic opposition, but they all have a "not going to happen" feel to them.
I long for a really exciting, well matched and anticipated Domestic fight, they are very rare these days.
If he is to box at Welterweight, why not challenge our current highly rated British Champion - Kell Brook?
A good fight that (like many others) for 101 reasons will never happen. Shame.

I never bought that line. It was just the styles that Hatton struggled with, but it saves more face to blame the weight division than any stylistic shortcomings. Hatton's been a light-welter his whole career, and big at the weight at that, plus Mayweather started out three divisions south. If Hatton got beat by big, aggressive welters like Mosley or Margarito, you could agree with it, but basically he struggles with faster movers.

Well I don't know the ins and out, and I don't particularly want to know - However, I think its a little bit harsh if Clinton is slagging off Richard Poxon now. Sure, it does sound like the ended on bad terms - but he trained a guy, who has admitted being not the most talented naturally, to British, Commonwealth, European and proper World honours..... thats not bad. I just hope Clinton will take the problems he had at the end of his career, when he was approaching his late 30's and leave a mark on what the TEAM achieved for the most part.
Personally, I don't think Hatton will employ Poxon as his full time coach. I think he will want him to focus on his match making - which is a new venture for him, for a new promotional company (and what a fine job he is doing so far). I could see him working alongside another coach - alot will depend on where the fight/s will take place.

Its difficult because he got well beat by the best , so did Cotto , and others . Regarding trainers . well Mmmmm i'm not doing much , reckon i could do a better job than Mayweather ,, start with i'm english so he can understand me ,,, and the instuctions would be simple , lets get super fit , lets get back to basics , lets get you doing what won you the world title . Forget trying to be like Mayweather , and be more like Ricky Hatton .
There ya go Ricky if your reading , Ps I was wearing a body belt when you were a juniour so you can bang me around the body no worries ,

Ricky want's to fight someone with a 'Name' or a 'Title'.
Well what about challenging Paul McCloskey for his European Title? If think he would have trouble with McCloskey's southpaw style, if he won then fight Khan. Two big domestic fight's held in the UK to reward his fans.
If PBF does want to fight in the UK against a home fighter what would Kell Brook have to loose? If he performed well then he would catapult himself straight into world class, if he lost i dont think his stock would drop.

Hello Jane!!!
I really do not think we are talking necessarily about the quality of the trainer!!! - this one is all about money - it shouldnt be - but it will happen that way!!
Its up to Ricky If he wants to do it then he should be able to do it He had a terrible training camp on the build up to Pacman and maybe that played a part in the outcome Time will tell

I believe that hatton thinks he's above any domestic opposition so wouldn't even considor them which is a shame, when fighters in the past lost in world title fights they started from scratch again and worked their way up,but hatton won't because he's greedy.

I think this is harsh - Hatton has been headlining the bill at the MGM and raking literally £5m + in for fights - do you really think it's wrong of him to still be looking upwards for matches? If he'd been losing to guys like Alexander and Bradley - World level fighters but no PBF or Manny Pacquiao, then fair enough, but if he has options of fighting big names like JMM in front of a worldwide audience, it's more appealing to any sane human being than dropping to take on Brook or McCloskey. Much as I think Hatton has declined it's a bit far-fetched to think he should now whittle out his days fighting at domestic level.

Seems like a waste of time for Floyd to fight someone no one outside the UK would have heard of. Even Matthew Hatton would have been easier to sell and that's extremely difficult as it is

Hatton doesn't do well in the welters but to beat Marquez that would be the weight to make the fight. It'll be less stress for his body to get to and as we saw already Marquez is way too small for welter, he looked flabby round the belly for the Floyd fight. Marquez would have a better chance a LW, which ironically is Hatton's best weight.
Ricky likes to gain an advantage by being the stronger, bigger guy so go to welter in my opinion.

Spot on. I totally agree with that. It was the styles that gave him problems, not the weight.

You should really get your FACTS right - Poxon arrived late in the day with regards to training Clinton Woods - Clinton was already challenging for major honours before Poxon took over - Clinton's previous trainer was murdered in a massive domestic dispute concerning I believe his sexuality.
With regards to what went on within the Fight Academy team - you really do not have a clue - to be perfectly honest I only know a small fraction of what went on - I do know things were not right for the Tarver fight - the lead up to that fight Clinton was unhappy with sparring partners and a number of logistical points concerning gyms and conditions right up to and during the days leading up to the fight in America - there was friction even before that within the camp and even I noticed things were not right on a trip to Jersey where Clinton and Richard were not even on speaking terms.
Who is to blame for the friction naturally that is wide open for opinion - however what I will say is Clinton is a top man and he is not the sort to fall out with people unless he feels something major is up.

Did you see the video of him on Sky Sports News in the gym?
Watching him bounce around trying to train when he looks like a blob is ridiculous. And he still has a holiday to go on before he goes back in the gym. I know it's his life but he is doing himself no favours.

Thats right, Poxon arrived before the Hoye fight and Woods looked fantastic in that effort. Indeed I recall one enthusiastic boxing 'writer' penning this after the fight:
The praise does not stop there. Prior to the Hoye fight, which was widely recognised as his last chance at hitting the ‘Big Time’, Woods chose to have a previously unknown trainer Richard Poxon in his corner. Poxon’s previous expertise came to the fore in matchmaking the fights for top British promotional company Fight Academy. Many critics were surprised, claiming that a fight of this magnitude needed a trainer of vast experience, but the critics were proven wrong
Prize for anyone who can identify the scribe praising Poxon there......

What concerns me is that he would end up fighting an "international" opponent who wasn't nearly as good- or as credible- as some of the current domesic stars at the weight(s).
Up to him who he fights at the end of the day, I suppose.

I also thought Clinton looked fantastic in that Hoye fight - the tactics were spot on - I would also add - the tactics were spot on for the 2 Gonzalez fights, the Delisle fight and of course that good final scrap between Johnson and Woods - I honestly believe to a point Poxon's abilities as a trainer are under valued in many ways - he has very good technical knowledge - but I dont personally think it was Poxon's technical abilities were ever under scrutiny - perhaps it was the inter-personal skills which caused fricition within the camp from top to the bottom of the structure - I am of course merely stating my opinion.
Nice try with your last comment in your post - I am one of the few since the split with Fight Academy who has NOT slagged Richard Poxon's abilities as a trainer - I honestly believe if you know how to take his personality then he could be very good indeed - my own personal misigivings concerning Richard were concerning the fall out from the split with Fight Academy and Ricky Hatton - what I meant is that I honestly thought Team Hatton would be the last place on earth Richard would have gone to after he decided to depart from Fight Academy.
You see and get to hear a lot in boxing - the comment often used "never say never" with regards to a fighter going to a promoter or trainer etc etc - however even though Richard has a lovely family to look after and he has bills to pay and after leaving Fight Academy family responsibilities were even more paramount - I was truly stunned rumours started to spread very quickly that Poxon was in negoitiations with Hatton Promotions - the reason for my total and utter surprise is that Poxon was at the very forefront of what went on with Fight Academy - with that responsibility you take the plaudits when things go right but you also take your fair share of the blame when things go wrong.
Why not ask Richard what his responsibilities were at Fight Academy and thus why some of those responsibilites conflicted with that of being a trainer of a World Champion.

Perhaps I could have used a lot less words by merely stating "personalities got in the way and people fell out" - who is too blame for that is up to you and others to decide.
