Don't be ridiculous. And I'm more aware of the sensitivities than you are, believe me.
We should be allowed to express an opinion within the limits of the law. If you're going to be effective as a mod here (a very difficult job), you need to to get a grasp of defamation law. I'm not trying to be a twat (I don't need to try, I know
![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
) it's just that you're living proof of the 'chilling effect' that certain people have achieved through litigation.
Then again, until you do get a grasp of this (not as difficult as some people think) then a blanket policy is best - though very, very depressing.
My ruling stands Ian. Whether it's right or wrong is not for me to comment.
I have referred it to the Boss. He can over-rule me.

That's fine, I understand. You must realise, though, how reductive it would be if only 'factual statements' were made on a forum - and this is exactly what certain people want?
I really do understand the practical necessity for the ruling in this case.
You would need a team of lawyers as mods to do it properly...and even then certain parties would still bang in spurious letters.

I want to draft some do's and don'ts (sic) for us Mods to know what can and cannot be said. Law has already made great strides getting us all together with the same rules, so it make sense to include this as well.
Especially given the history some people have had on the issue at hand.
