@135, I see Duran winning a close UD against Pac but at 140-147, I see Pac stopping Duran. Pac was not a beast at 135 like Duran was.
Pac at 135 was not as good as the Pac at 147. The guy is getting better and better.

You either did not seen Duran fight at 147 or above or are a huge Pac fan. How do you come with the conclusion that he will stop Duran? Duran had granite chin that only Hearns had the power to crack and that was at 154. Are you saying that Pac hits as hard as Hearns? Pac would not in a million years been able to stop Duran at any weight. You must be confusing Duran with Cotto. Duran is light years ahead of Cotto in Power, stamina, defense, and boxing ability. Duran is also faster, more accurate, and better puncher than Marquez and we all know what Marquez has been able to do against Pac. Pac is great, but Duran is just a little better than Pac. Do you really think that Duran would’ve stand in front of Pac like Cotto did? Duran defense is often under-rated and there is no way that Pac could make Duran fight his fight. Duran would counter him all night long and give him angles like he has never seen. Duran wins this one at any weight class.
How do you think Pac would've done against Davey Moore, Iran Barkley, or Marvin Hagler?

Re: Manny Pacquiao VS Roberto Duran(1977) @ 135
this is how much of freak roberto duran was. at his lowest weight, he fought at 119 and at his highest weight in which he fought (with a win), he was 174 lbs. at the age of 47 years old against a much younger, 6 ft. fighter with a record of 14-9-2. duran himself was only 5'7". incredible!!!!
duran started off at 119 and fought as heavy as 174. that's a span of 55 lbs.
pacquiao started at 106 and has fought as heavy as 145. that's a span of 38 lbs.
so i hope pacquiao fans can finally quit saying "but pacman started as a 106er!
let's see pacquiao fight at 47 years of age, against a much younger fighter who is 6'0" tall, and at 161 lbs. and win. that's 55 lbs. as heavy as duran fought at and won!!!

You have to remember that Leonard runs, Duran fights going forward. And this suits up well for Pac. Yes Duran beat Ray Leonard, how? By bullying him. Ray Leonard simply ran from Duran. Pac won't. We can argue that Pac is as fast as Ray Leonard but their main difference is, Pac fights, Ray runs.
And because of this, I will say Pac can't beat Ray Leonard. Pac struggles with runners/boxers. You see, styles make fights.

Granite chin? I've heard that all the time. Margarito, Morales, Duran etc. Hell even Pac is regarded as having a granite chin and they all got KO'd.Idisagree wrote:King of the Ring wrote:http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=116830![]()

Maybe it's the other way around. Okay, probably Pac won't win at 147 against Duran. I may have overstated but I can see Pac winning at 140.Duran would counter him all night long and give him angles like he has never seen.
Barkely will probably be too big for Pac. You see, Pac fights at 147 but that is actually his normal weight. How do you think Pac would've done against Davey Moore, Iran Barkley, or Marvin Hagler?
At 154, Pac loses against all these names. At 147, Pac is at a disadvantage simply because he is small at that weight but I won't dismiss him.

you know, i was watching an interview of roberto duran about a year ago and he praised pacquiao for being a great champion but when the interviewer asked him how pacquiao would have done fighting him, he laughed and said pacquiao is good but he (duran) would have killed him. and then he started laughing hard.

At 135, Duran by KO.
At 147, I'd favor Manny by decision. I just was never impressed at how Duran looked at 147 and above. THe first Sugar Ray fight . . .great performance but he barely scrapped by Leonard in my book. Pacquao with his in and out footwork and southpaw stance presents a different kettle of fish, and I think Duran was just not fast enough at this weight. But of course he could win.

Whats the point?? A punk who thinks they know shit. Rather your a man or a girl.....you get no respect for talking shit to someone behind the cpu (take that advice and learn from it). It's, 'foul,' not, 'fowl' bird-brain --- & before you come back with the oh-so-predictable, "This isn't a spelling bee" line, don't bother. These are 5th-Grade distinctions you're failing. It's frankly embarrassing. You'll accuse me of this or that --- great, I'll accuse you of not knowing what you're talking about.
Difference is, you don't know a thing about me, & are just reaching at whatever insults you can to try & injure me --- whereas I am going off what you've actually said --- words which expose you of having little real knowledge of the division's history. No one would say the things you said of Duran if they had any real depth to their 135lb. knowledge.
"...Leonard & Armstrong were both great fighters, but neither had the power to stage off Manos de Piedra at 135lbs..."
Give me a break. Everyone can see this is a generic comment put up by someone who can't go into any detail, because they don't know what they're talking about. All they've really seen is how great Duran was, & are going to go with that. Never mind Benny Leonard. Never mind Henry Armstrong. Never mind Ike Williams, Barney Ross, or Carlos Ortiz. I've seen Roberto Duran
See how that works? My post is substance, based on proven statements --- yours is randomised insults & baseless presumptions. You belong in Current Scene, with the rest of the Boxing-was-born-when-I-was-born crowd. Go back --- this isn't a place for someone with a text-message for a name.

It's mind blowing how smooth Benny looks on that old film that is rarely flattering. He hit plenty hard and as much of a Duran fan as I am, that's probably a 50/50 fight as is Ike Williams.

^^^Would you consider Pacquiao any chance to frustrate Duran into quitting, by way of the sheer speed of his in-&-out assault, above 140?
Re: Manny Pacquiao VS Roberto Duran(1977) @ 135
Well I think Pacquiao could have a chance against Duran above 140 but make him quit? I don't think so. The only 'quit job' Duran pulled was not due to pressure and he did hang in there with Hagler at 160 so I don't think he'd quit. I think Pacquiaos success against Duran at welter would hinge on whether Manny would be able to dictate the pace or not.Goodnight, Irene wrote:^^^Would you consider Pacquiao any chance to frustrate Duran into quitting, by way of the sheer speed of his in-&-out assault, above 140?
