also I remember Price getting dropped HEAVILY against a real raw novice from Zimbabwe who won the Welsh ABA super heavyweight title in the four nations - I forget the lads name but the guy hadn't had 10 bouts and he nearly knocked Price out.
No, he boxed for a Cardiff club - he beat O'Connor in the Welsh ABA final on a RSC in the first round - I watched the finals on BBC Wales and he was a proper novice - big unit though - he was about 6 ft 6ins and 18 stones - not heard of him since and he was studying at Cardiff university, he was from Zimbabwe - thats all I know. It would be a shame if he packed in because he had that swinging KO power if not much else.Wales wrote:Im guzumped on that one ... who was it?Carlos-Wigan wrote:

not Rhys something form Shotton.... probably not if he's from zimbabwe actually
Listen Asterix - I plumped Audley to win the world title by 2005Asterix wrote:I've only been a hardcore boxing fan for a few years, so I'll bow down to your experience. You've got to consider, though, how many heavyweight boxers there are with good handspeed, movement and power (you didn't mention power, but you won't knock someone out without it). I don't know how far Price will go, but I do think he'll get a title of some sort (English and/or above). I think Price has more potential than Fury and is a much better boxer. Fury, imo, has already lost in his first attempt to win the English title.Carlos-Wigan wrote:You saw his fight with Camarelle - a fighter with good handspeed and movement will beat Price - thats the blueprint for beating him - also I remember Price getting dropped HEAVILY against a real raw novice from Zimbabwe who won the Welsh ABA super heavyweight title in the four nations - I forget the lads name but the guy hadn't had 10 bouts and he nearly knocked Price out.
I am just giving an opinion on Price vs Fury - you could be right - but I'll tell you one thing in watching boxing for over 30 years - Price won't get past domestic level.
I'm not sure Price is ready for 10-rounder, so I'd also go with McDermott. Once Price has got more rounds under his belt, I'd probably go for him. But it's early days yet. I just think Price is better than Fury.Carlos-Wigan wrote:Listen Asterix - I plumped Audley to win the world title by 2005so I am no tipster, I could easily get it wrong and you could well be right, I also think Price will get to British title level but he could also easily be upended - in the heavyweights - its the worst division for that to happen.
I think Fury is a good fighter and has fought good fighters as a pro up till now - leaving out the fact that he really is an annoying get is hard but if you leave his personality aside - Fury has done pretty well - I also think McDermott well won the fight vs Fury but I really rate McDermott as a good fighter - would Price beat McDemott in his 9th fight? In my opinion McDermott would beat him handily.
if skelton can do it why not priceCarlos-Wigan wrote:Brian, I don't see David Price doing it as a pro and as unsavoury as Tyson Fury is - he will progress further as a pro than David Price - I can see Price getting KO'd badly in the not too distant future. A heavyweight with good handspeed and movement beat him. He will get to a British title, maybe a Commonwealth but no further and he won't get as far as a European title.brian13 wrote:David Price would school him and eventually stop him.
I think Carlos's argument would be that Skelton had a very good chin. Without a good chin you're going to get knocked out. The question is when. We saw with Khan, though, that he still managed to win a World title even with reputed terrible whiskers.damianhucker1 wrote:if skelton can do it why not priceCarlos-Wigan wrote:Brian, I don't see David Price doing it as a pro and as unsavoury as Tyson Fury is - he will progress further as a pro than David Price - I can see Price getting KO'd badly in the not too distant future. i can only take you guys words for it on his chin as ive not seen the evidence personally , but theres people winning titles without great chins ,khan being the major example, he said price wouldnt get to euro level but even with a suspect chin its still very possible as hes got the boxing ability , just means hed need to be managed right .Asterix wrote:I think Carlos's argument would be that Skelton had a very good chin. I have got a better question for you 'What makes you think Price will succeed where Audley Harrison didn't?' For me Audley Harrison has more skill, more pedigree, a better boxer, more handspeed and people talk about power but if you know boxing - you don't need power to win fights when you are as skilled as Audley is - Audley lets himself down on attitude and maybe Price has a far better attitude - I don't know - lets see shall we?damianhucker1 wrote:i can only take you guys words for it on his chin as ive not seen the evidence personally , but theres people winning titles without great chins ,khan being the major example, he said price wouldnt get to euro level but even with a suspect chin its still very possible as hes got the boxing ability , just means hed need to be managed right .Asterix wrote:I think Carlos's argument would be that Skelton had a very good chin. and remember people were still questioning the chin of froch until the pacal fight
I agree Asterik. Price has more upside than Fury. Fury is a media creation with a nice name. Price would demolish him if they fight.Asterix wrote:I've only been a hardcore boxing fan for a few years, so I'll bow down to your experience.
