But his jab didn't do too much for me and many of his punches were wild and thrown with abandon, his power didn't strike me as eyecatching at all and he rarely troubled Morris in that department all evening.
It was clear late in the fight he [Sykes] can't take it to the body very well which is sure to give future opponents the heads up.
He is one of those entertaining fighters people like because they know the chances of seeing him in a decent scrap for however long it lasts is almost a certainty.
Morris took his foot off the gas ever so slightly at times and wasn't as aggressive as he should have been, still his punches were way cleaner and his body of work overall was tidier and much more proffessional.
I had 8-4 or 7-5 for Morris due to a close 5th round, some may have seen it closer who knows.
Pretty good analysis.

I scored it the same, 7-5 Morris.

I think British is his level.

He hasn't got a jab, and gets hit far too much. Once he faces a puncher he'll drop.
I'd be inclined to agree, good fight they brought the best out of each other - but I think he would lose at European Level. Although it would be not a bad fight with Leva..... he has a better chin than Lawton. But I would expect Leva to win well.
Kirakosyan would spark the pair of them out inside 5 rnds.

Sykes needs to fight the likes of Foster Jnr, Morris again before considering Euro level. Lawton would have lost to both of tonight.

I felt Morris probably deserved that- was a bit surprised at the result.

Good fight!

True- fair point- What I said specifically, was that the fight wasn't quite enough to "sell the show" as a main event.

A re-match might be. :TU:

Ideally, I think it would have been an excellent warm-up fight to a "higher profile" main event.

I think a rematch will have the place packed. Sykes v Carl Johansson would be good though I probably spelt Carl surname wrong loll.

Yeah, Sykes V Carl Johanneson would be good- Carl is a puncher, and does tend to knock people out, and so that would be interesting to see- Sykes was getting caught flush at times, and taking a lot of shots to the body.

Possibly even Nicky Cook? I can't see that happening due to "politics" , but it would be a good one if it DID happen.

Think it was Josh Warrington though it may have been Tyrone Nurse (he got decked)...cant remamber the order but sure Warrington was last (and he looked a lot better imo)

I think Sykes could potensially go higher than British level. He has desire and heart in abundance, very good resille and a big heart. His defence looks a bit leaky but as he says going full-time will definetly improve that. One thing is for sure Sykes will always be great value for money!

Exellent performance by both boxers. I had Morris as the winner with better all round boxing skills. He took his foot off the gas in the 6&7 th but the more accurate work throughout the fight.
I think Morris deserves a re-match maybe on neutral ground he would have got the result. It would certainly be a good ticket seller.

I think the real test will be if he can take a good punch.

Hopefully, yeah, Sky will build on this by setting up a follow up fight quite soon.

Esham Pickering V Sean Hughes was a successful Friday Fight Night as it was a well made rematch.

Also, we are almost forgetting, sky DID show two live fights that night- an improvement, too.

Excellent battle and excellent blend of styles. It says a lot when the referee wanted the MC to announce that he never had to call "break".

Sykes greater desire and workrate tipped in his favour for me, but a classy performance from Morris. He can still win a British title again, but needs to go into tough fights like this one with a slightly different attitude. Confidence is great, but he always seems to think he's winning and perhaps stopped him from coming right out of his comfort zone at times.

Sykes showed no fear in stepping out of his and this is becoming a trademark for him, the Crolla eliminator certainly stood him in good sted for this tough battle. To bridge the class gap over 12 rounds for first time after just 15 fights was very impressive. Looking forward to following his British title reign and to see how far he can go.

I think either of them against Burns would be a good, close fight.Burns has done nothing so far to suggest he is any better than these two

Burns must start as a favourite against Sykes or Morris with his greater experience and superior opposition he's faced. Sykes in particular lacks power at British level (but I'm sure this will improve) and the guys who have beaten Burns, like Arthur and Johannson, carry a heavy punch. In time I think Sykes will have the beating of Burns, but not yet.
