Again with the Lacy crap? He did not do anything before or after Joe and never beat a top name. Certainly not a good win on the record of a great. Ricky Williams was supposed to be the next big thing as well and received the highest or one of the highest signing bonuses of all time .Manning Galloway must have been a top fighter because he beat the next great superstar in Williams.
I guess everyone hear who thinks Lacy was a great win must still be believing the hype
That being said I think Calzaghe would soundly outbox if they ever fought. Probably a wide points verdict for Joe. To much speed for a slow and basic fighter like Froch.

joe's best win was against hopkins.
unfortunately it was an awful fight to watch, hopkins was well into his forties by then, and many people thought that bernard won!

Bernard Hopkins has not been beaten by anyone save for Calzaghe since he jumped to light heavyweight. He is in no shape or form washed up. It may have been scruffy, close and controvertial but make no mistake the B Hop victory was a monumental acheivement.
Roy Jones - not nearly so.

Crusader, Lacy was a disappointment no doubt, but surely JC deserves some credit for not buying into that pre fight hype and quite literally beating such prime as he ever possessed out of him forever?
To a lesser extent Kessler too. Is it also possible that the manner in which JC ultimately outclassed him has left him permenantly wanting for confidence and desire?
I've never believed that Joe Calzaghe was peerless or unbeatable but it does annoy me the way that people are using the gift of hindsight to trample over his achievements; achievements which at the time were showered with superlatives.

The Lacy win was a great night for British boxing.
I remember Froch had an absolute utter stinker against the fat Ozzie, Brian Westerman. He bust his bicep too - and then Joe looked a billion dollars against Lacy.
Froch said he was not remotely, slightly, the tiniest bit arsed or motivated by Westerman and it showed. Wheras Calzaghe's fear-driven outing against Lacy made him look spectacular.
We can rubbish his win over Lacy posthumously, but that night it was an ace win I will give him that. Infact it spurred on his confidence somewhat to take more meaningful fights on (that absolute utter joke fight with Manfredo aside).
Sadly Lacy turned out to be a dud... and prob Westerman would even beat him if Manfredo can get a win on Chuck Giampa's card against Lacy.

no your right sg1985 he did.
I confused it with his next fight, the stinker against Mendoza, held in front of 400 people on a Wednesday night on ESPN. Mendoza rocked Lacy time and time again through the fight and was shafted by the judges on that occasion. I think he took a draw on one card and missed out by a point on the others.

Is Calzaghe meant to be showing "loyalty" to Froch or something?
When Calzaghe fought Kessler and Lacy, Froch told everyone they would knock Calzaghe cold. And when Lennox Lewis offered advice to Corrie Sanders on how to beat Wladimir Klitschko, was he being a complete dog?
And is this really true? You don't think this could actually be someone trying to kick up a bit of interest in the fight, do you? Neither is he quoted. Joe's so lazy, can you really see him going to Denmark or Berlin to help Kessler? It's difficult enough to get him out of South Wales.
I'm amazed you spend so long trying to slag Calzaghe off, Gomez? It just makes Froch still appear awfully bitter.
No Joe isnt meant to be showing "loyalty" to Froch but a bit of dignity and class towards a fellow proffesional instead of behaving like a council estate lowlife vermin would help.Does Joe feel with a career of 46-0 he needs to behave like this offering to help a foreigner beat a fellow Brit?
Many seasoned fight observers like myself still regard Joes jailhouse sodomising gestures to bernard Hopkins as he was felled by a low blow to have been one of the most disgraceful moments in world sport and another black eye for the sport of boxing.

"Felled by a low blow", it hit him in the stomach!
Personally I think Hopkins rolling around the floor claiming he was hit low was the low point of his whole career. And as Hopkins had spent the build up to that fight trying to intimidate Calzaghe with his ridiculous jail talk, he got what he deserved.
"One of most disgraceful moments in world sport"??
"Council estate vermin", "helping foreigners"? "Sodomising gestures"?
Get some perspective

Well my two sons were watching the fight and they saw Joes gesture. Later when they did some sparring one of them did the same gesture after he spun his brother around with a good body shot. Immediately i reprimanded him and administered a beating.
Would he have done this act unless he saw Joe do it?
Here I am trying to teach kids how to behave dignified and a hero of their Joe calzaghe undoes all my good work in a 5 second display of his lust and vulgarities.

Hilarious - on the one hand you say you are trying to teach your son's how to behave then in the next breath you talk about 'administering a beating' to them.
What a paragon of virtue you really are.................

As far as I know? Kessler or Calzaghe have not confirmed this story..
So could it be just another story to try and sell the fight?
If so .. even after all Froch has done the last year or so .. he still needs Calzaghe to get interest in his career ... :(

I said that about 30 posts ago. Small story on a little known Danish website with no quotes from either Kessler or Calzaghe. Load of old rubbish.

pacmans19 wrote:Lacy was overhyped to a very large extent. He did absolutely nothing before the Calzaghe fight and absolutely nothing after the fight. Just because he was overhyped, that means it was a good win? He was easily easily beaten by Taylor and stopped by Jones because he is so poor. He is and was, way overhyped and was never that good. Anybody here think he could last the distance with Froch??
Disagree.
Lacy was also a top class amateur. Also, did you see his fights with reid, pemberton, vanderpool - its not the opposition but the manner in which he beat them, the movement, footwork and punch selection / power. After the calzaghe fight he lost all of his movement, he was damaged goods. A similar thing happened to David Reid post Trinidad, some fighters get so outclassed they are never the same.
Lacy was always going to come unstuck against somebody, but his post calzaghe performances are nothing like his pre-calzaghe performances. And its not just the level of opposition, its everything about the way he fights.
Also, anybody can see the performance Calzaghe put on that night was sublime.
