To be fair the site is great for matchmaking altho a real matchmaker should be able to reel em off the top of his head
![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
and there i no substitute for seeing a fighter live as records can lead you astray.
The forums are good and the new new section is great my fighters so look forward to the reports as they get a proper fight report because its boxing people doing it and there is no lack of space like in a newspaper or boxing news.
Being so accessible has its draw backs as you make a good match then someones mate or grandad sees the kids record and advises his mate that this isnt the right fight for him
Overall boxing would be a poorer place without boxrec. For one id never have heard of charley zelenoff that alone is worth joing here for.

I used to get more stick on here than anywhere! I had to come on and fight my corner...or, sue all of you!!!
This site directly influenced some of the best decisions made by Setanta with reagrds to their boxing coverage. Let's not forget that 12 months ago Setanta was head and shoulders and wigs and hats and comb-overs above everybody. Who can forget that ITV garbage in the gym with Sir John, Cranky Jim, Wee Barry and Dukey. What a total load of plastic shite that was. As for SKY, they just threw in the towel and bought fatter ties!
This site does me fine and in with the knockers there were a lot of supporters and I needed 'em. I've got thick and fat skin but I can still hear Harty, Wee Barry and Frankie Maloney telling Setanta's viewers during the Castillo v Hatton fight that I "should never work in TV again" and "Bunce knows nothing about boxing" and "Bunce knows Calzaghe's special mate" (OK, the last one I invented!). You get the idea!
This site, I repeat, is fine with me and that's why I'm here so often.
Adios.

This place is the best boxing site on the internet. The amount of information you can get from the records side, for the princely sum of fornicate all, is quite astounding. That's before you get to the (excellent) News section. And both of them are before you get to the forums, which despite the odd dickhead (and frankly, considering the usual ratio on internet forums, the number of them here is staggeringly low) are the best place to discuss boxing on the internet.

Well said Buncey. And we all (or at least most of us) miss Setanta and the boxing hour dearly. It's good that primetimetv have picked up a few fights but Setanta was king.

There's usually a legal reason for threads being deleted/locked/moved........ Particularly in regards to defamation. We have had numerous legal threats in the past.

BIGMARK wrote:not trying to be a trouble maker but can you give us an example of what would be consider trouble legally for the site and what wouldnt using that Calzaghe NOTW thread as an example. I just wonder as surely discussing something that has gone to press with the thread linked to the articule (with in this case the boxer admitting guilt) isnt or is it? I understand a thread saying promoter X didnt pay boxer X any money which is just internet goship being a legal issue but not something linked could be trouble but previous mentioned example not.
Good question, Mark. I've had to make myself a mini-expert in defamation law simply in order to not get bent over by certain people who want to send me threatening letters. But - and I must stress this to you - even if a post/article is not defamatory this doesn't mean that someone who has a few quid won't send you a legal letter saying it is, and saying if you don't do x we'll do y. This is because some people simply don't like bad press of any kind, even if it's merited. Despite the nature of the sport, boxing has some of the most hyper-sensitive people you could ever meet.
Fortunately, BoxRec News has access to high quality legal help if and when I need it. I should very rarely need it because I don't publish anything that isn't protected by 'fair comment'.
Re the thread you mention - just because something has appeared in a paper doesn't mean you can openly repeat it. Repeating a libel is still libel. I know that doesn't apply in this case because it's true (the drug bit) and has been admitted. However, I did cringe when I saw some posters accusing another boxer of taking drugs. Unless you can PROVE that - almost impossible I'd suggest - you're potentially in choppy water.

Smoggy you smelly ****,
Yourself and Law have mentioned in your most recent posts on this thread the horrible and despicable words "defamation" and "Libel" - it sickens me to the pits of my ever increasing stomach that websites are still under the threat of such a thing - its boxing - the so called "mans" sport where punches are thrown and people unfortunately are sometimes hurt - so why on earth do people getting f*cking so wound up they have to take matters to court by peoples opinions on a forum - no matter how close to the bone they are!!!
Leave us be - the forums from 10 years ago to the survivors nowadays mean no harm - its a platform for people to have their saY -
MORE IMPORTANTLY ITS A PLATFORM FOR BOXING TO STAY IN THE PUBLIC EYE!!!! -I honestly and truly cannot believe that people would be that hurt by words that they would spend thousands of pounds in legal fees to what I would say "bully" people into silence.
A very good poster on here - once told me when I used to get wound up - dont go - carry on annoying the ****s - he then gave me a very truthful saying "you dont kick a dead dog" - it seems people within boxing feel so threatened by the words on this forum and others that legal action or threats have to be taken.

What does that mean?
Seems to me that anyone questioning the site/deleting of posts gets removed?

KO2,
A lot my posts have been removed - I use the PM facility to question the mods who do it - invariably I get an answer that way - they are good chaps like that!!!
Bring their hard work into question in such a public way - means they will dig their heels in - its them not you who put their heads on a chopping block and if they had to give a reason to every single removal of a thread or post this forum would have more explanations than boxing posts!!!
Just take it on the chin - move on and start some quality boxing threads - or quite simply add your thanks to this thread with regards to what a bloody fantastic site boxrec is - Shep might be a miserable **** and that goes for that smelly sweaty smoggy of an Editor too - but they run a tight ship around here and its bloody good for British Boxing in my view.

I know one site that is going into neglect by the owner and yet the regular users want to pay and make sure the site keeps going.
Boxrec offers a database that can't be matched - I remember seeing ads in KO magazine for a book called Fight Fax (?) that wasn't cheap where as Boxrec is completely free.
This site is doing a tremendous service to boxing and long may it continue. Forums are forums but this offers alot extra.
Seconds out were trying to buy into Fight Facts or something like that at one point.
Your point concerning forums - I wouldnt be so dismissive with regards to your forums are forums comments - You would not believe the amount of people who use this particular forum - in addition you have the groups of people who get upset with what goes on here and those who like to go fishing and those who use the place as a very informative up to date place to catch up on the gossip - what I like most about the place is that it seems we really do have on the whole the freedom of speech around here - god forbid if a promoter really did get his knickers in a twist and felt threatened by the place !!!
Its so good to see the British Promoters and those high profile personalities within British Boxing who regularly comment on "forum activity" take the comments on here in the spirit they are intended!!!

Didn't mean it to sound dismissive regarding forums - I have had a hand in one or two myself.
My point was just that Boxrec offers even more than other forums due to the records. Alot of great forums out there of which I include Boxrec for the points you mention.

were not preached to but were told what we cant write , we know theres reasons but at times its annoying , its not something thats happened to me too often but some of the guys have complained about it since before i was a member here , when you bear in mind we cant even write a certain promotors name without it being changed to allegedly , i think it does go a bit far at times , but we of course abide by the laws , if not we dont have boxrec as it is today , which would be a sad thing.
