I think Moore is a credit to British boxing. His attitude and what he has achieve are very respected.

At the same time I think people need to be a bit more realistic about him as a fighter. I think the talk of weight issues and the like and "he didn't look himself" etc, is all wrong.

well, after all those hard fights and all that grinding down in weight, it's bound to have taken something out of him.

to put his abilities in perspective, moore got wins over a top 10 welterweight (lujan) and a future top 10 middleweight (macklin), and got a top 10 world ranking both in the WBC and in Ring magazine. to me he is an underrated fighter. timing can be everything and i don't think he got the opportunity when he was in the best position to take advantage of it.

so many fighters get the right fight at the right time, opportunities they don't deserve. and when they win, it all seems so "fixed" (for want of a better word) and contrived. jamie moore's career has always seemed "real", raw and exciting, by comparison.

when i woke up after the lynes fight i didn't recognise moore in appearance, build, or even fighting style for a good minute or two.

Yeah something just wasn't right, it was a brave and correct decision by Oliver, props to him for that, nothing worse than a trainer letting his boy get hurt.I remember watching Jeff Lacy getting pounded by Joe C, me and my mates were screaming at the TV for Jeff's trainer to wake up and do the right thing.

In fairness, Lujan did nothing in his career. Macklin has shown he can compete at European level but against Pavlik or Martinez or Williams, it wouldn't be pretty. Moore was a decent level fighter at European and British level and a decent lad. Not world level in my opinion, his style just wouldn't have held up. He got shown up at British level several times.

I'd like to see Jamie Moore hang them up...but it's easy to say that from here.

i think if kevin mitchell had been kept at the british scene and put in more fights akin to the carl johanesson one - in which he took some massive, head spinning shots before rallying hard to win - and continued to grind himself down (to 130 pounds), then mitchell may have left his best on the british scene and found it hard to move up. as moore appears to have done.

I think he'll choose to continue- and do well .

Watching that fight again, he is taking some heavy shots, especially in the 6th- at the end of the day, two losses in a row isn't the end of the world.

No it isn't, but it is the level of opponent that he lost to that is worrying. He would have easily beaten a guy like this in the past. The fight with Rhodes was grueling, and I have to wonder if it left its effects.

First of all, I think we all have to be a bit skeptical of weight excuses from fighters. We see it all the time. It's the default excuse when a fighter loses. Mitchell never lost a British level like Moore did and had the undoubted class that Moore doesn't have. Moores style is simply not going to hold up at world level as he doesn't have the speed or defense to make it work. We saw that when he was beaten several times at British level. Lets just be realistic mate. Moore is a great guy and has been a great servant to British Boxing. The highlight of his career is a win over Macklin, which was very exciting.

Yes, I see what you mean- but at the end of the day, punches are punches.

Moores fighting style does mean he will get caught with shots, and he took some heavy shots in that 6th round.

mitchell only had one british title fight. his weight clearly weakened him and he took massive shots from british level johanesson. this was a cause for concern at the time. he got moved up, he got a weight weakened, coming off a defeat "name" prescott delivered to him, and won a mostly dull fight on the move. now he has interim champ katsidis to fight, etc etc...i wouldn't say proven class. the point is if mitchell was carrying on making 130, and fighting the same level, it would have been very hard for him to move up in class. mitchell has got a top 10 ranking at 130, just as moore had a top 10 ranking at 154 (in magazine ratings).

moore was a terrific aggressive fighter, had great punching technique, cut the ring down quickly. he was good at what he did and i think he could have delivered with the right opportunity, sooner. his wins over macklin, lujan and piccirillo are underrated. he didn't win a world title but he was a compelling fighter. i honestly can't watch friday fight nights, in general, but mooresy has been compelling viewing.

I really feel for Jamie and would like to wish him all the best in whatever he decides. He seems a really good blokeand boxing is better off for having fighters like him, who give their all and are gracious in both victory and defeat. That takes a lot of character and will stand him in good stead for the future.

Nothing really more I can add to the positives that have already been said.

Alongside his boxing ability; for me, what really shines through with Jamie is his honesty, integrity and his out in out class as a Man - not just a Fighter.

What ever Jamie decides to do he'll certainly have my support.

Cheers for the memories so far, pal.

For what it's worth, I certainly respect your achievements, and I must be alone in thinking for a large portion of that fight you were looking pretty good, and seemed to be dominating the guy until the end came quite suddenly.

Don't know about 12 stone mate, there's some massive buggers fighting at 168 - but I guess you'll know yourself best if you come back at that weight.

Good luck for the future.

I watched the fight in Wales in a boozer with no sound, couldn't hear commentary or post fight interview....

My Mrs is a boxing fan, calls all the fighters by their first names  I said to her after 2nd round, "hope I'm not being a picky prick here, but somethings not right with Jamie, hope I'm wrong"

I just thought he looked a little flat and HOPEFULLY it's nothing major, just a bad night?

I still haven't heard the post fight interview but I'm sure it was 100% honest, no bullsh*t and straight forward.... Just like the man fights.

One of the best fights I've ever seen and been sort of a part of(I was in Matt's corner) was the Moore v Macklin fight.
We were convinced Macklin would be too strong for him and have a bit too much. Were we wrong, what a fight, what a war. I've never bet against him since.

People harp on about wars and classics - They need to calm it down and watch THAT fight, THAT was a war, a proper fight and one to be very proud of for the lads concerned.
Warrior - again banded about like confetti.... I think there's only a very small handful in Britain.... Jamie Moore is one.

Good luck in all you do Mooresy, all the very best mate.

Good luck Jamie with whatever you decide to do. For what's it worth I'd like to see Jamie give it one more go. He definitely wasn't himself on Saturday. Whether that's because he "doesn't have it" anymore or because of weight issues - who knows. Hopefully Jamie can figure this out in the coming months. I suppose I want him to come back because he deserves success and I'd love to see him bow out on a high note.

Actually, Smigga's post made me realise some of the top quality tear ups Jamie has been involved in.

No wonder the poor bugger's knackered.

Hanging around for that tit Baysangurov did as much damage as anything else, in my opinion.

It doesn't seem like five minutes ago that I did a piece that was the cover of Boxing Monthly - '7 for 2007' - but then he got messed about.

Good luck mate :TU:
