That is a ridiculous account of the fight. First off, Arreola did not land a single clean, hard punch all night. The periods where Adamek was backpedalling were because Arreola was virtually running at him (and off course missing with all his punches). When a huge man like Arreola is charging you, you have to back up quickly. Adamek was not hurt at any period and even when he was backpedalling he would quickly resume the boxing clinic he was giving Arreola.
Adamek was landing almost every punch he threw and you could see the results on Arreola's face, a bloody nose and shut eye. Arreola was outclassed and I have no idea how anyone could have it closer than 117-111. I had it 118-110 and believe I could have even gone further and possibly scored it 119-109 or even 120-108. I wasn’t even cheering for Adamek and I didn’t expect him to win, but he put on a great display of skill. Every single round Adamek landed over and over with clean hard shots, while dancing out of the way of Arreola's wild and desperate hayemakers.
And as far as the hand goes, Arreola did not change his gameplan or approach to the fight in any way when he suffered the injury. He continued to load up on wild shots with both hands, and off course miss by miles. This was an easy fight to score and anyone who sees it as a close bout should not be scoring fights for a major media outlet.

yeah, most ppl are saying they have it 116-112 adamek - or even wider.
i can't wait to see it. the DVD may take weeks, due to delayed mail thanks to volcano clouds.
i look forward to graham houston's report. his accounts are always good.

Great action fight. I agreed with i think it was kellerman who gave the first 3 to Adamek, the next 3 to Arreola as Adamek did less in retreat then the remaining rounds last to Adamek bar maybe one.
Adamek is chancing it a bit as he really is a cruiserweight fighting a division too high but good luck to him. Arreola accepted defeat in the after fight interview which highlighted the poor scoring and that Tomasz was robbed of an UD.

Adamek fought a very good fight. He frustrated Arreola with lots of movement, and stayed just of Arreola's range then used his speed to land jabs, one-two's and lead left hooks. Was particularly impressed with Ademeks ability to mix it up from body to head.
Arreola looked as if he hurt his right hand in one of the late rounds but it was never a factor in the fight as Adamek has pretty much outboxed CA up until that point anyway.
I don't think Arreola looked as out of shape as he usually does and one thing he could benefit from is learning to cut the ring off. For the majority of the fight he just followed Adamek around the ring, eating quicks jabs and counters. There didn't seem to be much attempt to cut off the ring, drive Adamek to the ropes and unleash his big punches then, I do think he could have made it a closer fight if he did this.

I'll second all of that, i also cannot fathom how anyone could have it closer than 117-111, and even that score would be stretching it IMO. Like you mention, it seems some people are giving Arreola rounds for his bullish like charging, but its the punches landed that counts. Some people are easily fooled, its just a shame some of them are appointed ringside as official judges for these big fights!

ring mag online have just done a puff piece on arreola's "heart." you know, advancing when adamek retreats, being an exciting fighter, forcing the fight.
the guy writes that the 117-111 score is "an insult" to arreola's fighting heart!
how about the 114-114 score, then?
when do these ppl wake up, smell the coffee and realise it's not about chris fvcking arreola?

absolutely. he is a tough bloke. definitely not really a heavyweight, but because he is good, experienced and tough, he has found some form. i think he deserves to challenge haye, or to see if maybe someone can dethrone a klitschko (povetkin, for me).
but i think moving up to heavyweight does kind of fit in with his career. in that (unlike many british world champs), he refuses to stay at one level merely defending a belt. he's the kind of fighter who will move up, seek new challenges, and shoot for the bigger money. he'll start training for a big TV fight 6 weeks after going a tough 12-rounder. a really old fashioned kind of fighter, and i hope getting on HBO won't reduce him to fighting only once or twice a year.

That little article by Michael Rosenthal made me cringe. Sure Arreola showed heart, but that doesn't help him win rounds. The fact that he had to show so much heart was a testament to the beating he was taking. I prefer to award skill and effective boxing over heart and wild, ineffective flailing.
There are some people who post here who are still convinced that Arreola won. I can usually see both sides of the arguments in these cases, but this fight was clear as day to me and I have no idea how anyone could see anything but a wide win for Adamek.

i think ppl might be marking adamek down for not throwing heavyweight shots. this is the only explanation i can think of.
it did make me want to vomit, though. it's like there is some big arreola campaign going on behind the scene. you know, like there was after victor ortiz quit vs maidana. there were articles being churned out on how ortiz can come back, and even articles on real world champs (like darchinyan) were being spun with some victor ortiz angle. i can see why they'd make the effort for ortiz, as he was clearly a big investment. but arreola was only ever sold as a paul williams double header, and has fvcked it twice he's fought world champs (vitali, adamek) as a headliner.

i wonder if golden boy are going to sign arreola. maybe that's why some of these pieces (of poo) are floating to the surface.
or perhaps ppl really are desperate for an american heavyweight champ, and the writers are trying to salvage his reputation.

he was the pre fight fave (among all experts) with size and power advantages and a long amateur career despite poor conditioning as a pro. he had good wins over waker and witherspoon. this was a nice win for adamek.
HBO apparently have shortlisted sam peter, eddie chambers and tony thompson as adamek's next opponent in newark. i say chambers is a bad idea as he's defensive, he's not a true heavy and it's a frustrating night. peter is interesting as he is a physical threat, can be outboxed by smaller men (toney 1st fight, chambers) - and they can compare adamek and vitali's performances again. thompson is tall, and while not a glamorous fighter, could be a useful workout for adamek to get past his reach advantage.

I see that Sam Peter has been mentioned as a future Adamek opponent. I think he is a better more riskier version of Arreola but Adamek will do exactly the same to Sam.
How does everyone think Arreola-Peter would play out? Now that would be guaranteed to be a good fight.

seems like everyone picked arreola. graham houston, doug fischer, just about all the websites.
i would look forward to adamek v peter. for a former 175 and 200-pound champ, fighting heavyweight punchers for good money is as good as a regular world title fight.

that would certainly be a war. it seems like arreola has friends in high places and won't disappear any time soon.
i do think peter is a risk for adamek, but it would be a good event with a big crowd and HBO TV coverage. peter was actually trim in his last fight, vs nagy aguilera. peter has certainly been awful, but he has a fast, heav jab and looks scary when he opens up.

scored it to adamek by 2 or 3. he just knew what to do, when to punch, when to smother, when to move, when to lead, when to counter. against probably the physically strongest heavyweight in the world.
arreola did two massive charges at arreola in the 4th and 5th. i feel any other light heavy/cruiser would have shat themselves and ended up sprawled on the canvas. adamek sucked it up, got back to the job.
classy boxing from adamek. i don't like him being called a runner. hopkins used to fight ppl his own size, and smaller than him, like this! (including the head butts, low blows, crafty nasty things.) adamek is a truly blown up cruiserweight. he packed on two stones of muscle. but he can still beat a top heavyweight. now he has HBO willing to televise him in his "hometown" (big crowds in newark, NJ).
adamek deserves to choose his fights carefully and gun for a title. we'll know more once the wlad-povetkin-haye mess has been settled.

Adamek is such a talent. I was telling my girlfriend on the way to work this morning that could she believe that Adamek had come from light heavyweight and looked such a good contender at heavy. He reply was "And...!"
Top talent though.
