There's no doubting he was an exceptional defensive fighter, but 300 (?) fights is going to take its toll, no matter how many punches you slipped.

Maybe he's a good actor then (!). It was a Mr Moto film, the one they gave to Lorre after Warner Oland died.

..warner oland never played mr moto...he played charlie chan, and sidney toler took over when oland died. peter lorre played mr. moto, a japanese detective until pearl harbor, which killed the series.

the oland charlie chans were "A" productions and were produced by 20th...after toler took over the part they soon went to monogram..."B" pictures if that .....low budget..but some were as good and even better than the fox ones...low budget meant low lighting and unglamorous sets which gave them something of a noir feel.

I didn't say he did play Mr Moto. I said they gave the film to Lorre after Oland died, which they did.

It went from a Chan film to a Moto film, it even has Chan's son in it. It also has an Oland tribute in the film.

..thanks for the response, orb....which clarified the confusion made in your original post.

while i'm here i'll point out that rosenbloom and max baer had a night club act for a while, and rosenbloom played the dumb guy and one of baer's lines was "I fought joe louis...what's your excuse?"

No worries, can see why it might be confused.

I've recently just watched the entire Chan & Moto films, so know a fair bit about them.

I'm curious now about Maxie's other work, will try dig some out.

...orb...it's interesting that the three charlie chan actors in a row were warner oland, sidney toler and roland winters.....apparently an actor had to have an ol in his name....
