He has started with the excuses now though....According to the BBC,he is blaming domestic trouble and "late nights" only 5 weeks ago.Frank has "read him the riot act" and isnt prepared to finance him if he is only playing at the sport.Tibbs backs Frank up.It seems, like Froch recently,he is gracious to the camera, and then blaming everyone when they have gone.I would post a link if i knew how to do it.

It looked a bit "man against boy" to me. Katsidis was just to strong and rugged and heavy handed. You could tell that as soon as he started applying the pressure Mitchell was going to wilt. I've got lots of respect for Mitchell though and I do think he can come again, Katsidis was just the wrong type of opponent for him. There are a lot of other guys he can beat at lightweight as long as this defeat doesn't effect him too badly.

I always said he not world class beating Prescott does not make you.
Just look at the Johannason fight. That tells you all you need to know. World class fighters don`t struggle to that extent with Johannason.

Good Euro level fighter, but Mitchell is not world class.

i was saying this a week or 2 ago. he was getting seriously battered by johanesson in their fight until he rallied.

i'm not being anti-mitchell. i was as enthusiastic as anyone that he won a world title elim, but i retained ahealthy dose of scepticism as well.

i think a lot of ppl on here wanted mitchell to simply outbox crude katasidis and outfight him where necessary, before being handed juan manuel marquez's WBO title on a SAE to FW promotions...

There has been a excuse now though from him and his people - that he had a bad training camp, etc.

Unfortunately - it all hinged on wether Kevin could take the power of the Aussie - and he could not.

He had never been hit like that before.

Kevin says he made a mistake and got clipped - but its not really a mistake - you can never go through a full 12 rounds against a world class fighter and not get clipped.

He was out of his depth.

Unlucky - cos I wanted Kevin to prove he was good enough and win - but fair play to the Aussie who just punched with too much authority.

It was man V boy.

heheheh, you can clearly see the parallels with maccaroni after his fight with haye.

I agree

Its a crap excuse to explain a loss though

What kind of game plan is that ?..................." I will not get hit in this fight"

Its boxing - your gonna get hit - espcially if your up against a world class operator - your probaly gonna get hit harder than you ever been hit before

Plus world class boxers - are gonna be quick to capitalise your flaws and mistakes you got away with on a lower level - and nail you.

If you cant take it - then its just the way it goes - your not good enough.

But this is what happens when you fight bums under FW and then make a big step up in class. IMO fighting Murray would be the next step for Mitchell!
I said exactly the same thing last night about Warrens matchmaking.

Katsidis had a good gameplan and didnt rush things. Once he hurt Mitchell in the third, he didnt let him off the hook, and finished the job. Katsidis has World class experiance which Mitchell hasnt got, and it showed. I think Mitchell was gutted but he spoke like a gentleman, as did Katsidis, after the fight. Mitchell made no excuses, he knew he was beaten by the better man, and accepted defeat gracefully. Mitchell had taken a hammering and he turned away therefore the referee responded correctly and stopped the fight. Graham Earl was never the same after he fought Katsidis, so lets hope Kevin Mitchell doesnt go the same way. Mitchell/Murray would be a great fight but not straight away. Mitchell needs a confidence booster before he has another big fight. Although this is a set back, all is not lost, and there is another route to a World title.
Good post :TU:.........Well played by Katsidis; never seen him step back like that before.

A Brilliant demolition of a rock chinned opponent by Kastidis, Mitchell should have been Poleaxed by some of those pulverizing shots he landed. Can't believe I actually thought Mitchell might punch as hard as the Aussie - there's just no way.

Tough lesson for Mitchell, and I thought it was a bit brutal to interview him so soon, he must have still been very dazed. Don't know about the late night stories, but looked like he'd never have beaten MK, not with the tactics he used. Looked the smaller man too, and Kastidis dominated every time he came forward.

I wonder if Jimmy Tibbs had even discussed the possibility with Mitchell that Kastidis might back off, and lure him into a counter? Mitchell seemed caught out, and walked right into it.

Mitchell is a classy fighter though, showed a great chin and didn't take a long beating thankfully. He'll learn from this and come back and grab a world title I think. Frank can match him down the road with maybe another not quite so lethal champ as Kastidis.

Thought both Mitchell and Katsidis were both excellent in their post fight interviews.

Was gutted for Mitchell, I really thought he could do it. Well done to Katsidis though.

To be honest, I think world titles should be awared on the way a boxer conducts himself in his interview.

Whilst I stand by what I stated earlie in that I thought both boxers conducted themselves really well in the post fight interviews - it makes me think Mitchell may have had no choice considering what is being said in the other thread concerning the short cuts in preparation.

I always got the feeling that Prescott was a sink or swim fight for mitchell personally.

Not sure there will be any more title shots now for Kevin.

Same here

I thought Kevin could win - as he was undefeated and unexposed - and this was his fight to arrive on the World scene.

Unfortanetly - he has just not got "it" at world level.

There is no shame in it - no matter how hard you train and dedicate your life to boxing - if you havent got "it" you can never be World class.

Kevin is a good British / Euro level fighter.

He took his oppurtunity at World level against a alot more experienced and bigger and hard punching opponet and he got brushed aside quite easily.

At least he knows he had a go - and just werent good enough.

Well done Katsidis and such a classy guy in the post fight interviews. I love this guy, what a throwback fighter, such a warrior and a nice guy to boot. Has Katsidis ever been in a bad fight? Don't think so!
