there seem to be quite a few heavies up high in the world rankings that have little condition and look they r there for the taking.

Did anyone see the bout? Going by the report on fightnews it seemed like a real back and forth affair. Walker's camp was upset with the stoppage, was there a good reason for that or was it a legitimate intervention?

if you look closely,walker appeared to ask for interventoin when he was copping it against the ropes,up until that point it was anyones fight,both landing big shots

Terrific fight to watch Non stop action with both giving their all. The giant Walker had a far better kit of punches but Leapai had a huge right hand but not much else.Walker almost gone in round 1, Leapai down and almost out in round 3. Walker hitting him at will in round 4 ( no head movement from Alex) untill Leapai landed a series og big rights just when he looked gone . It was close to the end of the round and given the way thefight fluctuated the ref should have let it go.
Leapai is tough with a big right but with a very limited skill set to progress much beyond where he was last night

Couldn't agree more with that assessment.

I think Leapai would be scary if he learnt some head movement and a few more punchs

Leapai has not lost a fight in the last two years and won most by stoppage. Takehara fought a six round draw with him.

Hello of a good win for Alex Leapai - I know the Aussies will bring in some decent tests now he is on the verge of world class. Looking forward to some exciting nights ahead.

I agree with most of your post rhino but thought I'd just quote this little bit as it's the most relevant.

I really struggle sometimes with why some guys refuse to fight each other under this brother/best mates/first cousin's second wife's nephew excuses.

If it furthers your career or helps you out - do it. If one of you has to move gyms then it better be worthwhile - but really, there's not many excuses and seems a cop out to me also.

I'd fight (and have - backyard style admittedly ) my best mates for free and wouldn't have a problem with it especially if it benefits me later on.

I know Hopoate and Haumona have gone that road, but I never heard Alex say it.

Fan of alex's...but did anyone think it was stopped prematurely? Alex was in serious trouble it was his biggest test by a mile, Walker has evrything but a chin, and Alex needs some serious work if he wants to remain at this level, he'll need a extra gear to get to the next as well......but how god damn entertaining is he, that fight was a barn burner.

i don't know about fitness. i just saw rnd 4 on fox fight night and leapai was hit with clean shot after clean shot, and he was in la la land not just simply tired. his fitness may have been questionable too i'm not sure i haven't seen the 1st 3 rnds, but the big shots he took in rnd 4 were very damaging.

leapai may have been in massive trouble himself and the ref maybe should have let the fight go on a little more at least, but i know walker was absolutely gone too when the ref did stop it. but the rnd only had a little left didn't it? so should have tried to see if walker could make it till end of it.

I just watched the Travis Walker fight on youtube, think Leapai was very lucky and looked gone for all money! The fight should never have been stopped, and on the grounds it was stopped for - surely Leapai should have been stopped earlier on! Saying that though Alex Leapai certainly has a big-heart and a great right hand! I'd love to see him fight David Tua would be very entertaining! (Think Tua would stop him in the 2nd or 3rd round!) But with that booming right hand you never know!!! Straight after I watched the Leapai-Szeit(not sure of the spelling, ko1 for Leapai) fight and that was another huge right hand! Looking forward to the Owen Beck fight - that should be another tear-up!!! Leapai hugely entertaining! Maybe Shane Cameron would be a better fight for him!

What I saw on just the round 4 replayed tonight, the fight was stopped early to Alex's advantage.

Alex would be insane to go up against David Tua at this stage of his career. Alex needs to start bobbing and weaving for protection a lot more, otherwise the upper echelon of heavyweights will beat him up badly.

Only saw the replay of the last round tonight. It didnt appear the yank was in any more trouble than Alex had been in earlier. Thought it was a poor stoppage and from looking at Alex I doubt he wanted it to go another round, he looked spent.
Walker exposed Alex's lack of defence and ability to get inside of a big, quality fighter. He gets hit too easy and that will eventually take its toll. I am not sure how the earlier rounds went but I think Alex will count himself fortunate to have had the fight stopped when it was.

I too only saw the last round last night have have to agree with everyone that it didnt appear Walker was in any more trouble than Alex had been in earlier. Alex looked very, very ordinary and was clearly spent.

if leapai can't get enough sparring or decent opponents the he should go o/s or retire. otherwise he will struggle to fullfill his potential properly.

i knew he had massive testicles from watching his fight with cronje. that was a war. they bashed each other stupid.

another 6 fights with fighters of this calibre will help him tremendously.

To get up after a knockdown and win takes a lot of heart. I saw coverage of the end of the fight and Walker looked out on his feet.

Disagree totally.

He has fought at the right level coming up and had good testing fights against the likes of DeMori, Kirkby and Cronje.

He has just beaten a top 30 heavyweight from the states and he should retire? Well done!
