ive only attended the Prizefighters last 3 years (heavy, cruiser, lt heavy)
i like the heavyweights but regular bills are just not worth going to.
the prizefighters have been good value
but the usual problems at The York Hall are people standing up in ur way...people with huge flags...and fairly lazy security.
also an understaffed and cramped bar.
the recent cruiser bill was the first one that i thought was really poor quality.
the Heavy Prizefighter with Audley and Williams etc was the best one of all...really good stuff....
but
we had to pay more..and it was at the Excel....
we all know about the excel.....crappy venue....ahole security who stop you going for breaks...and one measly hut for refreshments...... truly awful venue that i will never go to again.

It's pretty weird that I'm a complete misanthrope and dislike most of the crowd at any public event I go to, but still find it even more dislikeable when others proclaim the same sentiments.
Or maybe it isn't weird, maybe I just don't like anybody.
Whichever way up, the biggest thing (and why I rarely bother any more, though I used to) is the endless parade of 40-36 and 60-54 inevitable-result-fights between locals (prospects or ticketsellers) and journeymen. £30-£35 is a lot of money for a ticket when that is all I'm going to get.
(Before I get the usual responses, I am not saying that this sort of fight doesn't have any place at all, I'm not saying that matchmaking is easy, and I'm not saying that journeymen are evil or any such thing. I just don't want to pay a bleedin' fortune for a card that has nothing but or mostly those sort of fights).
In terms of the larger type of things - I've been to boxing at the NIA, which strikes me as some kind of distance limit for squinting at the ring. I wouldn't even dream of going to boxing at one of the really really big arenas (London 02/Manchester MEN type of thing) unless I had assurance that there would be big screens so I could see what was going on in a clinch. I gather that there usually aren't.

Its undoubtedly the loud mouthed potato faced shaven headed, late 30's , 40's "hardmen" who become Freddie Roach and total experts with a few beers in their oversized guts and shout and bellow.
Also venues like the York Hall are a shit hole with piss flooded bathrooms and school canteen style benches and a shitty atmosphere on top.

I like the oddity ones.
"Hit him in the face Tony!"
When I used to play cricket, we used to encourage the bowler by saying things like
"Lets have one for the custard creams*"
Any biscuit or confectionary could be put in - it used to confuse the hell out of the bearded, village batsman.

Some unsuitable venues are used for boxing, especially bigger venues. I hate nothing more than paying upwards of $40 for a ticket only to be sited somewhere from where at best I can see two blobs on the horizon.

Might be an unpopular one but......Round card girls....don't really see the point. If i want to see a woman half naked i'll tell the girlfriend to get undressed. Put simply, when i'm watching boxing i just want to watch boxing. Don't see the need for some tarty looking bit of stuff parading around, while a load of drunken pr*cks whistle and pay more attention to her then to the boxing they supposedly came to see.....ironically enough my girlfriend has done round carding before now, so fingers crossed she never gets to hear about my comments on this topic....lol
Lack of schedule information
Waiting time in between fights which can be ridiculous at televised events
Shrieking idiots, whether it be men or woman. (think Jeff Lacy's misses whilst he was taking his medicine off Calzaghe) or the lagered up clowns swaggering around aggresively like they're hardmen whilst bawling obscenities.

I sat through a fight a few years ago and the bloke next to me shouted 'body' for the entire 12 rounds duration, I'm sure the fighter it was directed at (I forget who) found this advice invaluable!

Wilko wrote:What I really hate is that at most shows, apart from a sketchy running order in the programme, there is no information provided to fans to inform them of which fight is next and how long a gap there will be between fights.
At the Mitchell fight at Upton Park for example the Williams v Chisora fight was brought forward an hour from what was advertised in the programme with no announcement - as a result my mates who were in the bar missed it.
Better communication to the fans in attendance would be very welcome and lack of is my biggest pet hate about attending shows.

Wiko do your mates go to boxing to get pissed or to watch boxing anyway if they were Williams fans it's best they missed it.
Your point about the excel I have to agree with it's an absolute shit hole for boxing if your down on the floor area & something exiting happens they all stand on the seats & security haven't got a clue about crowd control

Years ago, there used to be an incentive to bring kids to a show - i.e. you could buy a few tickets and then be allowed to bring in a child for free. i.e. McGuigan shows in Belfast. I think promoters should look at this and try to incentivise parents to bring their kids to boxing shows and help along the next generation of boxing fans.
*Whoever it was that slagged off the York Hall - I think that is a disgraceful comment. I love those old venues they are the home of boxing - so what about the state of the toilets etc - great atmospheric venues.

Are you Alan Partridge? Reminds me of his comment that he, "just hates the general public" after walking out on his announcing job in utter disdain at the Swaffham Fair.
I'm a bit of a snob when watching boxing and hate know-nothings offering advice that would be useless in the playground, never mind a world title fight. I also hate it when people continue to boo the away fighter after the fight has ended.
Slightly off-topic I hate watching on telly and seeing some turd waving at the camera with mobile phone to his ear.

The widely accpeted attitude that it's perfectly acceptable to leave your seat, or arrive and take your seat, at any time you like, regardless of if there is live action on. In some cases, to simply hang around blocking other people's views.
It's so nice going to a show or other sport where people take their seats BEFORE it starts, and leave after, or during a break.
