Also know as running the product into the ground.
After paying £4.99 for a world title fight, ITV are hardly going to be thrilled when the price suddenly jumps up to £3k, or whatever, for the next one.
I think Khan vs Malignaggi was a better fight on paper than John O Donnell vs TBA in a warm up and Tyson Fury vs TBA - which is what this shobox bill is scheduled to be.
I don't think showtime will be too happy if the TBA proves to be journeyman. Shobox champions itself on giving these prospects "tests".

Good point - but I suppose it depends on numbers, MW, and I've no idea how many watched Khan-Malignaggi. If it was a canny few, at daft o'clock, that might encourage them.
That's true Ian - in a very good interview in the Times, on Saturday - Frank says Khan on ITV @ 4.30am "peaked at
500,000 viewers, but they probably were lucky to get 50,000 genuine..".....for what it's worth

yep, they can't be too happy to see the dreaded TBA up in lights. Hope they move O Donnell quickly, he's been hanging back for ages now.

Yes MW, that's why I'm favouring the bill being scrapped for another day with O Donnell and Fury fighting on the undercard of the John Murray fight (which I think will be on Sky?).

would be shocked if Khan got 500k at 4:30 watching it live, but if you include recording and the replays.
your right, why would ITV pay hennesey 300k (which is what he wanted for Taylor) when they can get Amir Khan for 0.

Hey, Rob - how are you?
I see you started a thread on ESB entitled 'Barker out of Macklin fight'
"Injured. Has been back in England and drinking with mates.
Good friend of his told me."
And after several pages have had to write:
"Got a message on facebook from Danny Flexen from BN. Barker read this thread and text him, its bullshit and the fight it on. He is sick of all the rumours.
Darren Barkers text read "'it's not true. I'm 100 % going to fight. I'm sick of all these rumours to be honest. I don't know if it's his camp or plonkers round here talking rubbish'"
sorry guys, i jumped the gun a bit. Don't shoot the messanger"
I know you discriminate between a news site and a forum as far as credibility goes and you're exactly right. Then again, if it's about readership, the ESB forum is very widely read. But, dear me...
I would normally have more class than pulling someone up like this but you can't have a public go at me in my backyard and on ESB (when the piece was clearly speculative anyway) and not expect a slapped wrist. I knew it would happen but didn't think it would be so soon or so spectacular.
There's a proverb about a splinter and a plank...good luck to you, sir, I mean that - it's easy to drop a bollock.
Oops, update...I see later in the thread when someone has mentioned your nonsense on here, you write 'McNeilly is a up his ass c*nt anyways'.
What I think you mean is that 'I tried to act big and clever with someone who knows what he's doing, have immediately shown myself to be a tit and am now lashing out'.

Leonard - you do a bit yourself and you'll know how important reputation and credibility is to a writer...plus how easy it is to make a mistake. Everyone does it and it's not classy to pull people up on it (I didn't even make one and he's slagging me).
But that lad has gone out of his way to try and make me look a tit and even though he's banged to rights, he's calling me all sorts over there!
Thanks for the support - an unexpected source but all the more welcome because of it

I was chatting to Rob after all this kicked off, I mean his BoxRec spat as opposed to his Barker gaff, and advised him that you cant bull in on a forum and start taking pot-shots at established posters. I see Jeff has advised him of the same thing today on ESB.
Anyway, its all good fun and gives me a big stick to beat Rob with in future - not that use it

just wave it in warning!

why? because I'm canny and tenacious but disliked by several of my superiors because of my disdain for authority and tendency to circumvent the chain of command? or because I am a písshead?
Anyway, I wont be one to crucify Rob for this monumental whoopsy, his heart is in the right place, he loves boxing, isn't afraid to give his opinions even if it pisses people off and is eager to bring "new news" to the table - for that I applaude him.
I know he harbours ambitions to write about the sport he loves and I am sure he is well aware that the only reason he is getting any slack for this is because this was put on a forum, if it was in an article he would be dead meat. It is an almighty knock to his credibility but he can and will bounce back. In fact if he wants to do a couple of hundred words preview on Macklin-Barker for my site (to balance up all the pro-Tipperary Tornado content) then as long as its well written and uses the term - 'Frazzlin' Barren Ducker - then I would more than happy to put it out there.
Chin up Rob, it aunt that bad - this internet stuff is just for laughs!
