of course you can be successful in MMA with boxing as your background, but you'll need to learn : wrestling, grappling tactics to avoid takedowns, learn to get back to your feet when taken to the ground, learn to transition from any position to get back to your feet, learn to defend submissions, learn to defend clinching, kneestrikes etc.
Pardon me if I'm wrong but I think noons comes from a Muay Thaï background more than just boxing.

He boxed as a teenager but also did Muay thai too back then so a mix of both really.

Koons seems to switch from mma or boxing whenever he gets beat in one although he's had far more success as a mma fighter so far and i doubt he'll ever do anything more in boxing then beat regional clubfighters.

i was slightly disappointed that Toney lost but more angry at him and his team's total lack of preparation and more importantly not coming in with a gameplan but it just came down to him being the wrong type of boxer to ever try mma as being athletic and having footwork are no longer his forte.

Randy is very beatable even by a boxer but he won fair and square and his gameplan was spot on to win this particular fight, he reminds me of Mayweather like that...do what you got to do to win, not what’s good to entertain people. He would have known how flat footed Toney had become and being a counter puncher wasn't going to come forward and as Randy said he'd been practicing that single heel takedown like crazy in his camp.

We're all great in hindsight but Toney needed to come out aggressively throwing a few jabs even if they hit nothing but air but he needed to impose himself and get Randy on the back foot as you can't shoot then. Instead he just waited in the middle of the octagon like a fat lump obviously going the Ray Mercer route of trying to land one hail mary punch but forgot that it was a mma fight, randy feinted with a jab but instead went for the takedown and James fell like a building being Demolitioned.

Anyway time to move on to better things and in the end it’s the ufc that’s missed out on what could have been a seminal moment in their history by having probably the greatest hands in 4oz gloves display something special but instead matching them with the worst style possible just to make sure they had some kind of hollow victory….next up they should bring in Remy Bojansky in a style match up so we don’t see any kicking. Sometimes its not all about winning but rather giving us what we want to see and in that ufc took a massive step backwards.

Toney asked for that fight as well as brock, so it wasnt a hollow victory.

Fat boy thought he would walk through any heavyweight ufc fighter.

Ultimately he did it for an easy payday. I doubt he could earn that in the ring now.

Brock would have destroyed him. As would pretty much all of the heavyweights.

I read that David Haye who does a bit of mma sad he hasnt been able to land one clean punch on anyone he has trained with due to takedowns/wretling/stance............. it aint the same game and silly to compare.

Boxing rules v MMA = easy boxing win

MMA rules v boxing = easy MMA win

But as Dana said its a fight and theres allways a chance, but 9 times out of 10 them the rules!!

And in all honesty t was a win win for those concerned, It was a win for fatty Toney , he got a massive amount of money for a couple minuits work and a few hours of shooting his mouth off, did'nt even have trainer fee's got his mate to train him for this one apparantly , so he only had to slip him a couple of bucks for making the hot dogs.

Win for Dana and MMA after all there old champ , beat the self proclaimed baddest man on earth , and now all the spotty middle class kids in america, will run to there local dojo , knowing that what they learn is the toughest and the best , and they will buy the ppv , show up in mass numbers for live shows and bragg about there sensai cos he used to train with the gracie brothers .

BIG BIG market is the martail arts market , and Dana is tapping into it very nicely
