stujones wrote:I think the reason for this is that two fold Oliver.

1) Unlike Williams vs Potter (which you are alluding too) it happened in the final round, at around the final minute mark - and Sprott changed tactics. Williams vs Potter happened with loads of time left in the fight. A big case can be made for Sprott throwing that fight.

2) Unlike Williams vs Potter - the nature/seriousness of Harrison's injury still hasn't really been that clarified - from what I've read its a shoulder injury that required surgery - obviously it's serious (nobody can argue any differently) but its still vague. If memory serves me, wasn't the finishing blow from the hand Audley coudn't throw from.

I've seen fighters fight and win with a torn rotator cuff, only Dean Francis and Danny have I seen win with a dislocated shoulder. It must be so much harder to throw a power shot with that kind of injury, due to the balance issues of having an arm tangling like that.
1) Throwing the fight?? Are you for real?? Yes, getting your head knocked into the seventh row and being laid out unconscious for a worrying amount of minutes is obviously the preferable route for anyone taking part in a fix. Not to mention going on the attack, hard, and looking on the verge of winning by stoppage yourself only seconds earlier. Yes indeed, one way to ensure the fix is in is by trying your damndest to win it yourself. Oh, and not to mention waiting until the final round before letting it all happen, so as to allow the maximum amount of time for something to cock up the plan. Thank god for all concerned that Sprott did manage to follow the script.

2) You're right we don't know the seriousness of the injury but whatever the long-term prognosis, on the night the effects were the same - both boxers only had one good arm. Thus achieving victory on the night is just as meritous and the after-effects have no bearing on that. And if you want to factor in the seriousness of the respective injuries, Danny was never again bothered by his. Finally, the finishing blow was NOT from the injured arm. He was relegated to using his left, which as a southpaw is not his leading hand, making things even more difficult,

Haye will not beat Harrison; that I'm certain of. Jesus, do people forget him struggling in the Prizefighter final before landing a decent shot? He was blinking his way through all of that fight. If anyone believes an emphatic puncher like Haye will let a wide-eyed Harrison off the hook is wrong.

Oliver -

My point 1 is a point I actually believe to be - I didn't mean "throw" a fight as in it was a fix or a setup or anything under hand - I meant losing a fight that was his to lose - kind of like how people (and by people I don't always necessarily mean myself) say DLH "threw" the Trinidad fight by running for the last 3 rounds. Sprott had the fight in the bag, why did he change his tactics - why did he corner say he was behind.... again I'm not suggesting anything under hand - but I am sure Sprott thinks "why" every day. Its possibly cost him a world title fight.

My point two still stands, not as from a personal viewpoint of Harrison, but from a viewpoint shared by a few. Personally I think his injury was obviously pretty serious as it needed surgery - but some might argue HOW serious? Was Audley unable to move it, or was Audley not prepared to move it cause it hurt a little bit? Danny couldn't move it no matter how hard he tried.... just like with hand injuries - I remember the criticisms for one of Joe Calzaghe's fight (I think it was the Ashira one) when it was later revealed that nothing was broken just swollen - now, I think fighting with a swollen hand hurts like hell also, but does it mean the fighter should just stop using the arm? Could Harrison move physically the arm? or was it just hurting a bit should he? Was it a rotator cuff injury? was it torn? what was it.... Holyfield and Tapia went INTO fights with shoulder problems.

Let me reiterate, I don't know the severity of the injury, but surely it wasn't a bad as Danny's cause Danny couldn't defend himself either!!! plus the balance issues I highlighted in the first post.

I agree Diouffy, and I'm sorry - and repsect to all thoughs who have changed their opinions on Audley - but if Audley wins, then it will highlight that Haye is no heavyweight. I'm unconvinced by Haye the Heavyweight, that's why I'm giving Audley a little chance here - but if Audley wins I think the likes of, even as low down as Arreola, will be chomping at the bit ready to take the title away. People are forgetting that had it not been for a KD Harrison would have drawn against Danny Hughes in the prizefighter - no shoulder injury there.

Firstly, I've never been a fan of Harrison, I just don't rate him. However, I would really like to see him knock Haye out. I saw them both on Daybreak this morning and Haye just came across as an arrogant prick. Realistically he'll probably blow Harrison away in 4 or 5 rounds but I'd like to see Harrison take him out. Such a step down in class for Haye, then he doesn't even try and give credibility to the fight - he just slags Harrison down to the ground.

OK, fair enough. "Threw the fight" is the wrong terminology, though. What you're saying is that it was more a case of Sprott losing the fight than Harrison winning it, which is fair comment. But the same could be said of Potter - Williams can't have been more than a round or two away from being pulled out, but Potter went looking for the stoppage and walked onto the shots that finished him.

About the arm injury, true enough Williams couldn't even lift his, while at least Harrison has SOME movement. But their attacking capabilities were about the same. I don't think it was that Harrison CHOSE not to use that arm because it hurt a bit. At one point he teed off with something like seven or eight consecutive lefts - no boxer would do that unless he had no choice because the other arm would come into play even reflexively, especially when it's not their leading arm.

Audley will be beaten.

Question 1: What's traditionally the best punch to use against a southpaw? Question 2: What's David Haye's best punch?

Clue: The answer to both questions is the same.

Meantime, Haye always does very well against upright boxers who have more of an amateur style.

I fully expect Haye to knock Audley out, although the latter could make it extremely messy if he runs and hugs, which isn't beyond the realms of possibility, especially has Haye has a tendency to rush in and smother his work when he gets overexcited.

@Oliver:

Audley has been incredibly frustrating, and if it wasn't apparent fairly early on that he didn't have what it took (despite what many of his fans said), he might have been the most frustrating fighter ever. I mean think of it: a 6 foot 6, 16 stone southpaw heavyweight with plenty of speed and athleticism. He had more natural advantages than any heavyweight I can think of.

I suppose that's why people hate on him so much. He could and should have been much more. And not only that, but he really gave it the big I am, aided and abetted by the BBC, and without any trace of humour or showmanship. In Britain, we don't even like people like that when they're successful, let alone when they stink out the joint week after week. Think of it, if you have a young man who was born to incredible wealth, has private tutors his whole life (all the natural advantages for business or a career) and then does really well at Cambridge and gets a double first. Then he walks into a massive paying job in the City, but is pretty sh1t at it, but goes on and on how he's gonna be the best equities trader in the world one day, and make this deal and that and how he has confidence in himself and that he'll overcome his problems. Then after looking really not what he's cracked up to be, he makes fcuk up after fcuk up, going bankrupt on four occassions, but each time has the same schpeil, wouldn't we really not have that much sympathy for him?

Harrison is skilful, and he can punch. He got stronger as a pro, that's one of the things he did actually get right. But not all his punches have strength; and because he rarely delivers his skill, he rarely connects with the punches that actually carry any clout. And up against busy opposition, Harrison protects too much and throws too little. I think Haye'll be far too busy for Harrison to get into any kind of groove; like him or hate him, Haye remains a class above anyone else Harrison has shared a ring with to date. The few skilful boxers Harrison fought were fading; and Haye is at the peak of his career.

That said, I followed Harrison for years, and always liked him; if he wins, I'll feel happy for the big guy, as for all his big mouth he really is mostly a nice bloke. I'd rather have his over-confident style, always trying, constantly pushing to get the fight than have him sit back and just fade away. You don't get squat without trying, and that's one thing you can't accuse Audley of not doing. He got this fight by pushing for it; if he gets the world title as a result, it won't be because it was handed to him. Maybe he doesn't deserve it, but he's always been chasing it, and chasing it harder than anyone else in the UK's heavy division.

Perhaps it's a good lesson for all those boxers out there who think they would be more deserving of this shot...

Audley has always been a good talker, but come fight night, it will be the same old Audley.

He has enough tools to prtect himself for a few rounds, maybe even covering up for 12 rounds. However he doesn't have the mind set and neither as he ever had, to take the fight to someone like Haye, who is very much a live and dangerous fighter.

I'd go as far as to call him a bully actually.
