He fought two weeks ago, if this was his only fight of the year (or even six months) then fair enough but it aint.
No, you're definitely missing the point. If this fight was a 'one-off' that was sandwiched between meaningful bouts that would be one thing, but ALL of his fights this year have been of this calibre.

We'll see how well this kind of fight prepares a boxer for "bigger things to come" when Shannon Briggs fight Vitali Klitschko.

Every time a critique of Lee or another Irish boxer comes up - Boxrecs own IRA (Irish Remedial Army) come up swinging, even if they know our critique has gravitas.

Piss poor opponents get slated, whatever the nationality of who they're fighting. Comparing it to the Hatton situation is pointless.

If there is method to the madness, so be it, but until its made clear you can not expect anything other than a slagging of this opponent surely? I can think of prospects who'd be slated for fighting that level of competition. And no, it doesn't bother me who he fights, but to come on here and make out he is being singled out because his Irish is ridiculous.

Oh and for the record, I'm Irish :TU:

I'm glad you do, because no-one else does. Anyone who'd been on this forum during Hatton's ascent would have seen regular criticism of some of his opponents, while criticism of other fighters has been vitriolic at times.
Let me be perfectly explicit about this - no fighter with Lee's skill and record would escape a barrage of criticism if he chose to face a 40-year-old who had lost his last five fights and been stopped in four of them, REGARDLESS of his nationality.
The only prejudice on display here are those who are defending Lee on the basis of his nationality alone.

Well look at the thread - it's pretty clear where sentiments lie. And to be honest, focusing on that and ignoring the main points of my post only serves to illustrate how tenuous your position is.

The inference that the negative posts about Lee are driven by his nationality rather than his appalling run of opponents this year.

Rage? I think there are plenty of articulate points in this thread, both by myself and others. As for misguided, your irrational defence of Lee is the only thing that fits that criteria. Unless your eyesight rivals Stevie Wonder's, it was clear I was responding to the post where you stated that you understood dutchie's point, where he clearly implied that there was a disproportionate level of criticism directed at fighters from Ireland (which has already been proven to be utter nonsense on this thread).
In a bid to draw one sensible response from you I'll ask you to answer this one question honestly, given you've ducked just about any other question thrown at you in recent posts:
If a fighter of another nationality with Andy Lee's record and potential was involved in the same series of utter mismatches, would you be so 'animated' in your defence of said boxer?
Please try to answer properly for once Slap as your responses to date on this thread are dangerously close to consigning you to 'laughing joke of Boxrec' status...
