Andy Lee warms up for a crunch rematch with Brian Vera early next year in America with an eight-rounder on the Wladimir Klitschko-Derek Chisora undercard in Germany on December 11.
Lee takes on the Pole Daniel Urbanski
Southpaw Andy, a big Irishman who fights out of the States, was belted by Vera in seven rounds in Connecticut in March 2008, after which he struggled for confidence. His team, headed by Manny Steward of Kronk fame, dropped him down to a ridiculously low level but now decide that Lee needs to exorcise the ghost of Vera completely, and the two meet in February.
Vera, a strong if hardly outstanding Texan fighter, is the only man to beat middleweight Andy in 25 outings, climbing off the floor in the first round to bust up and outlast the Limerick man. In the aftermath Lee lurched from one crisis to another in his fights, even though he eventually won them, and then came farce as the world-ranked Lee feasted on a succession of gas station attendants earlier this year.
As for Urbanski, he is a solid opponent at 19-5-3 (5), seasoned enough to give Lee the 'rounds' he needs prior to Vera, without ever really threatening to win. Urbanski lacks a big punch and can make light-middleweight. They say in boxing that a good big 'un always beats a good little 'un, and Lee, who clearly whacks a bit with 18 stoppages, should thump his way to a clear decision win.

Not sure why he needs a tune up for a rematch with Brian Vera.

Its not a "tune up", Urbanski is a tougher fight than Vera in my opinion.

And despite what obsessed Bennie says, Urbanski is a genuine Middleweight and has only had a single fight at Light middleweight when he beat undefeated Karlo Tabaghua.

His last fight was for the WBC Baltic middleweight title.

The Baltic is as utterly meaningless as the English or Commonwealth titles - my point was he is a middleweight not some sort of blown up light-middle.

All Urbanski's defeats have been to unbeaten fighters, he has won his last seven and is unbeaten in ten and has only been stopped once in nearly 30 fights - to WBA Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.

Lee has Urbanski, Vera and Duddy potentially all ahead of him in the next six months so I dont understand your "needs moving on asap".

I am not trying to defend the WBC regional title farce but actually the winners of the WBC Baltic title seem to have a bit of pedigree - Dmitry Pirog, Damian Jonak, Dawid Kostecki, Ayup Arsaev and Pawel Kolodziej winning it in the last year. Those guys are better than the current crop of English titlist Craig Lyon, Nigel Blackwell, Brian Rose, Nigel Wright but probably on average marginally below or on par with the Commonwealth holders.
