jessi wrote:Horse p4p lists are never easy to compile but in my opinion you have to take ability in to the equation, because if your looking at opponents they have fought and how quickly they have got rid of them, then you have to look at what opponents there opponents have fought and so on, maybe frankie gavins opponents are not as highly rated as other peoples opponents but surely you look at the ease he wins and how technicly gifted he is ?
Taking ability into account is fine, but ranking a fighter that has only been fighting at Area title level in the top 30 is going much too far, no matter how good he looks.
jessi wrote:you say he wouldent even be in your top 100, so your saying theres atleast 99 better professionals currently in the uk at the moment then frankie gavin ?
There are at least 99 professionals in Britain/Ireland who have better pro records than Gavin.
I don't see what is wrong with waiting for a fighter to beat good opposition before giving them a good P4P ranking. Gavin hasn't even reached English title level, so why should he be in the P4P top 30? If he is as good as most people think he is then he will be beating good opposition soon, so he can enter the list then.
jessi wrote:ok what if he was to win a british title on his next fight ? would he jump from 100 + sraight into maybe the top ten ? if you were to take naturally ability into account on your p4p i think it would make alot more sense !
There is very little chance that Gavin would jump into the top 10 for beating a British champion in his next fight.

It is Magee's lack of fights in 2009 that holds him back a bit for me. Macklin has not looked very classy in his last few fights, but I think a person's top 10 ranking without Macklin in it would be wrong.

Thank you, bengulnaci1.

horse your comments are fair points, and your list is a pretty decent one, just a couple of things though, how do you justify macklin staying 7th ? i personally think his looked awful in the last 12 months, you have mitchell 15th and last year 14th, his had 1 fight in 12 months and got beat up, you told me earlier 99 pros in the uk and ireland have a better record then gavin, ok i cant argue that, but when ever has p4p lists anywhere been about records ? its about current form and domination over other good opponents. like i said before i agree with alot of your list but if your basis is all about records then its silly. how can jason booth be all the way down at 19th ? are you sure you can spot talent. if you was to put booth at 7th macklin at 15th and mitchell at 19th i would say its much more fair.

Macklin knocked out the World top 10 rated Asikainen less than 18 months ago, which has helped him keep a decent ranking even though his recent performances have not been very impressive.
Mitchell has had two fights in the last 12 months. Anyway, I think it is better to lose to Katsidis than to beat McDonagh.

Gavin's opposition hasn't been good though. Top 30 fighters hardly ever fight opponents as weak as the ones Gavin has been fighting.

Booth will climb a few places if he beats Arthur next month. Booth hasn't won a fight since last February, so it is difficult to keep him from falling down the rankings.

Chisora and McCloskey would probably be in the top 4 and Khan would probably be in 5th place.
