It's wrong to name call to such a stupid degree when you're obviously well read. Like I said before, I like Bunce, and I love his outspoken attitude, but when you resort to inept name-calling because someone disagrees with you then I would say you have problems.

what I would like to say, contrary to the opinion expressed by several on here, is that in my eyes you can't say that Ali's victory over Foreman was so conclusive as to render any possible rematch pointless. For the most part Ali stood there and protected himself and did not much offensively at all. Sure, he KO'd a gassed fighter, but there is nothing to say Foreman wouldn't have got to him if they'd fought again. Didn't he bust up Joe Frazier putting him down summat like 5 times....? and Ali and Frazier weren't exactly poles apart as proved by the fight in their Phillipines.
If I was Ali would I have given Foreman a rematch?? no, probably not, why get bashed to sh*t all over again, on your arms or otherwise when you can stick an iconic win on your record and move on?

It was a knockout victory, which is more conclusive than many fights. Does every fight that you think might go differently another time need a rematch? Barely any rematch would be completely pointless, doesn't make it ducking. He already fought him, and has the best opposition of any Heavyweight in history.

You must have missed all those right hands Ali threw.
George didn't.

True, the fight has been rewritten to Ali spending the whole time on the ropes absorbing punches, not how it went at all.

Buncey wrote:OK...history lesson ladies:
Foreman got it wrong in Zaire. In the years that followed he chased Ali and took out full page adverts in New York Times and other papers and was the subject of a front page at Boxing News begging Ali for a rematch. Ali was busy with Dunne, Spaniards and stuff like!
Lewis and Tyson was late by five or six or seven years. Lewis and Holyfield was late. And, Bowe not fighting Lewis or Lewis not fighting Bowe was bigger at the time than Haye and Klitschkos making excuses, trust me.
You need to read contemporary newspaper reports - try my stuff in the Daily Telegraph for Lewis.
Stander...you serious?
It's been a long time on here since I had to talk to such a effing dimwit.
Now eff off and look up some papers and get an education you tosser.
Adios.
A bit of this might be semantics. Re Ali, I'm not sure 'ducking' can be levelled at someone when you've already knocked the fella out. They had their chance, f**k it.
Aye, some of Lewis' fights were late...not sure that was all down to him though some might have been. For sure though, the Bowe fight was a huge miss and a lot bigger than Klits v Haye.
I'm a bit surprised some of you are slagging Bunce off for abusing people. Just tell him to f**k right off if you feel like it but underpin it with some decent opinion, as indeed some of you have done - he can take it.

That foreman tournament thingy has been shown on ESPN classic recently. He looked pretty awful - it completely backfired.
Talking of rematches and then missing other fights. I might be out of order, or wrong with my view. But I've never given Bowe the stick some have done for the chucking the WBC belt in the bin rather than face Lewis. I really don't think Bowe was that fearful of Lewis, the guy was a true warrior in the ring. I would like to think, that Bowe chose to rematch Holyfield because it was a huge money fight, and fight the majority (sorry us Brits) of fans and TV companies wanted. It was one of the most fantastic heavyweight fights in History - they needed to do it again.
Again there is Ducking and there is Ducking. I certainly don't think Ali ducked Foreman, and whilst alot more evidence that Bowe ducked Lewis - he didn't do it to fight a bum of a month contender.... I know what people will say - Hang on Stu.... He fought Mike Dokes and Jesse Ferguson after Holyfield. Yeah he did, but I think he was entitled to have a couple of easy ones after that war, especially as he knew he had another war in 12 months.
Well let me reword it then.... I aint saying Bowe didn't duck Lewis, but its one I can empathise with because he still went on to fight a rematch of one of the greatest heavyweight title bouts in history. In a round about way, its sort of like saying "well, I'm not going to be critical of Lewis for "ducking" Ruiz, cause he did fight the guy who Ring magazine and the boxing press were lauding as the next big thing.

The only person who believes it's own hype is you Steve, take that ego for a walk and put it on a leash please.

Make your adios for good.
And before anyone jumps down my throat. Go back and read Steve Bunce's post regarding Howard Rainey's book where he basically said that he was the only person qualified to write it.

Bite the hands that feed you... that's pretty bloody patronising.
How am I being patronising? It's clear fact. He comes on here plugging his BBC spot left, right and centre, and rightly so, but when someone disagrees with him and he reacts like that it's not going to do him many favours. I look forward to Buncey posting, but that post was bang out of order.
You make fair points, IMO, Dioufy. Buncey has been very dismissive of forums in the past but knows that they contain a big hardcore of fans so advertises his shows. That's fair enough - but if you go and drink in a pub because the beer's cheap, don't go mad when the customers aren't to your liking.

Everyone of us has made a dick of themselves at one time or another. Steve Bunce is no different; he's not often dismissive or rude; I'd put it down to a bad day.

Ha ha, Ian, ta. The bit that kinda riled me was him saying that this forum is believeing its own hype - what the hell does that mean? If it means what I think it might mean then that's the pot calling the kettle a stupid little shite, if you get my cryptic meaning. Kudos on that analogy, too, big man.

I have always found Buncey a top bloke, Its all got a bit stupid and crap..This sort of thing stops fighters and Journos posting on forums. Everybody should have the right to a view and i agree with most points in the thread, like it or not he gets paid to do what we would all love to do so he is no mug, he may have been a bit aggressive with his reply but he is only human, i think its great he comes on here and he was always shouting out Boxrec on his show on sultana and he still does now.

Well, if it means them throwing their toys out of the pram because we don't agree with what they say or toe their line then they can all go now and they won't be missed - thats my personal opinion. This was a great site before they all turned up anyway.

Do you think they have added to the quality of the posting on here? Their presence means more fanboys getting offended on their behalf now post on here!

Bunce knows this site is the home of the hard core boxing fan, the people his audience figures depend on. Crapping on us is like a politician crapping on his own constituents. He risks driving away a key part of his audience, and without an audience there's no show, and without a show, no wages. Everyone says things they regret in the heat of the moment, but he's had plenty of time to cool off now and there's been no sign of an apology.

calling somebody an "effing dimwit" and telling them to "get an education you tosser" is pretty fcking abysmal tbh in response to a mild-mannered comment you just so happen to disagree with, regardless of who the fck you are. Bunce predominantly posts adverts on here anyway so I don't know why some people are so quick to kiss his backside for him "because he's Steve Bunce". Adios

So why not Buncey?

Bunce is arguably the highest profile figure covering the sport in this country. He represents boxing on national radio, television and in the newspapers, and as such has greater responsibilities than most.
