Covered my first boxing show at the Stour Centre in Ashford in 1993 and Paul boxed Shaun Cogan. Remember sat ringside at end of the second round and it'd turned into a tear-up with Ryan getting the better of it and starting to tee off on Cogan and as he walked back to his corner, Ryan looked down at me and with a maniacal grin on his face just shouted "Wooooooooohhhhhhh!!!!" as if he was really enjoying himself.
Chatting afterward to my mate who I'd brought with me and he'd never been to a boxing show and said 'that Scrap Iron Ryan's a fornicating nutter!' within earshot of Ryan's fans, who let's be honest, didn't look like they could'n't fight, and by the looks they'd heard what he said.... I smiled back and moved us out of earshot sharpish just in case.
Good value-for-money fighter and was at his WBO Inter-Continental title fight at the Albert Hall a couple of years later where he somehow got up from a couple of knockdowns (if I think) to beat Oscar Palomino.
