My own favourite has to be Jamie "Featherman" Howe. His fight with Alex Stewart was one of the comedy highlights of my youth.

Can't find that. But I did find Jamie's fight before it, in which the wonderfully-mulleted Mr. Howe scraps with Renaldo Snipes.

Not a bad action fight, as heavyweight fights go, but my favourite bit has to be at 13:55, when Tommy Gallagher tells his redneck charge: "You're opening up a little too wide. Fight smart! He can't be that fuckin' bright, he turned down 500,000!"

Does anyone remember Bobby Crabtree and Jerry Halstead. they used to rack up wins on the circuit, then get put in with proper contenders and get KO'd.

I would watch them and they would usually take some big punches to get KO'd, it must take something to go into the ring knowing thats going to happen to you.

Wimpy Halstead!

I know of an avi of Pierre Coetzer (YES!!!!) vs Wimpy Halstead if anyone's feeling suitably nostalgic, one of the rare times Wimpy managed to last the route vs. first-string (okay, maybe second-string) opposition.

I was just thinking of those guys, I remember Crabtree actually hurt Michael Dokes in the first minute of their scrap after taking part in a great staredown, unfortunately by the third minute he was laying on the canvas trying to suck in some air, but he was always fun to watch.

And Wimpy Halstead was ahead of his time, a bald, shaven headed white guy before they were fashionable.

Good point RE: Wimpy's cutting-edge fashion statement, but I remember when he sported a mullet, which is somewhat more in keeping with his time & domicile.

Really?! Haha, never saw him with the mullet but, since you mention it, Crabtree's was a classic mullet in it's own right.
