it wasn't much of a fight, virtually a keep busy against a lightly regarded 'opponent'. If we're all honest we all enjoyed the Groves/DeGale spat and the Hopkins interview and there wasn't much to take from the Burns fight so what more was there to say other than he won a routine and expected victory? Wasn't spectacular or even very interesting. He's had 2 pretty routine defences now, which he earned by winning the title the hard way and it (RIGHTLY) got enormous amounts of coverage for that magnificent victory. Now he needs to have a fight that actually puts something on the line - as people mention there's plenty of domestic Super Feathers who could be really interesting (Sykes/Crolla if he dropped back down etc etc) or other belts that he can go after. Next time he has a fight that gets the juices flowing i'm sure there'll be plenty of coverage. But to the majority of viewers Groves v DeGale verbally agitating was what we actually want to see on Ringside rather than a re-cap of a routine world title defence that told us nothing we didn't already know.

Burns is no doubt something to be proud of for Britain, he was pretty woeful at Upton Park and looked a different fighter against Martinez, so maybe he needs the big nights to really prove himself - i hope he does, seems like a top lad and his performance against Martinez is one that will live in the memory a long time. Time for another fight of consequence though.

Slap, I definately see Jim Watt as more of an integral part of the Sky team than Moore or Oliver. Are these on the "books" or are they freelance.

Whilst we see more of Nelson these days than Watt - no disrepect to Nelson, but one of the reasons why I dislike the changes is we are seeing less of Watt. However, Nelson is taking more of a presenters role these days, so it does give him less chance to air his views.

More Watt though please Sky.

Smiths a FW,derry,anthony and scott LW.and imo he give any of the others a real good go.

Sorry to be contentious but...the fact he gives them a real good go and theres ten of them mostly at Brit level, makes him a worthy World title contender ...there you go...spot on...thats whats killing the sport.

you dont even have to be top 50 in the world to get a title shot.

Not yours or Rickys fault I hasten to add but it does highlight the dillemma of modern day boxing .

billy you have to accept that Laryea wasn't anything to write home about and that the likes of Sykes/Crolla etc would have been a more challenging and exciting test for Ricky and for the British boxing public?

You can't be surprised that fans and the media aren't exactly that excited about Ricky beating someone that wouldn't get near a British title let alone a World?

Everyone here is behind Ricky and wants him to conjure up many more of those nights like he did against Martinez and it's understandable that he enjoy some lighter defences after winning the title the hardest way possible, but like the joke opponents that Brook, Cleverly and Macklin etc have had recently you can't expect us all to get excited at another one of the same.

Credit comes where its due. The win against Martinez was probably THE outstanding victory by a British fighter last year. The first 2 defences? A bit "so what". Bring on the big fights and I think we ALL hope Ricky goes from strength to strength

If you feel this strongly billy why dont you bring it up in your next interview with sky?I have a feeling you'd be afraid of the consequences of that!As for Carl Froch thats a funny example you use there as if you havent noticed the guy has been fighting the best guys in his division back to back and cant even get a fight on sky!!Now finally regarding Noone being good enough to beat burns well the super-featherweight division isnt the strongest at the mo but theres still fighters from england that could trouble burns,lets be honest Martinez was perfectly suited to burns.He's a crude guy who wings his punches and his biggest asset is his power and burns has a very good chin so it was always likely to favour burns who was a better boxer.A case study in very good match making,lets see how burns does against the other top dogs at 130 and if he prevails then il give him his due

bit harsh. No-one gave Burns a chance against Martinez who was absolutely the top guy in the division on the World Stage and incredibly dangerous. No-one thought it was good match making before, they were just happy to get a shot - which he took. Hindsight is a great thing, but give the lad his view, that was a hell of a win.

LOL, Billy. Jeez, that fight was horrific to watch for boxing fans. Sky team did me a favour not mentioning it.

Can someone remind me again (I've asked this before) but who apart from the mighty Nicky Cook did Martinez defeat to gain the honour of "genuine world champion" & "absolutely the top guy in the division"?

Was it Gonzalo Munguia? No? What about Feider Viloria?

& again, I'm not disputing that it was a good win, nor that it wasn't an impressive performance. But fvck me you'd think Burns beat Juan Manuel Marquez the way some of you go on about Martinez.
